All-Time Series Wednesday will mark the 11th meeting between Texas Tech and Texas State with the Lady Raiders leading the all-time meeting The Bobcats last met TTU during the season at the Women s National Invitational Tournament in an loss. Up Next for the Team Following Texas State s meeting with Texas Tech, the Bobcats will meet Texas Southern Saturday, Dec. 5 in Houston. Game time against the Lady Tigers is set for 4:30 p.m. at the H&PE Arena and will close out a fourgame road trek for the Cats. Call Davis for Assistance To date, senior guard Victoria Davis leads the team with 19 assists. She also leads the Southland Conference with a 3.8 assist/ turnover ratio, committing just five turnovers while handling the ball this season. Jack of all Trades This season, senior Aimee Hilburn has shown that she can pretty much do anything on the court. The 6-0 forward averages 6.0 rpg and is No. 3 shooting 42 percent from three-point range. Hilburn has also dished out 15 assists this season. News & Notes Breaking the Century Mark In Texas State s appearance at the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational, just two players reached double figures in the pair of games. Against Colorado State, Victoria Davis led the team with 10 points and against Houston, Verinus Kalu led the team with 10 also. Benchwarmers In the Bobcats loss to Houston, the Bobcat bench contributed 48 points toward the tally. Verinus Kalu led the team with 10 points, Anna Brzozowski scored 8 and Tamarra Evans-Sluga and Megan Homan chipped added 7 points each in the decision. Klause is Coming to Town Sophomore Lacey Klause set career marks in Texas State s outing against Southwestern Assemblies of God. Klause posted nine points and five rebounds to help the Bobcats to a victory. All About Ofoegbu In Texas State s meeting with ULM, junior Chika Ofoegbu controlled the paint, scoring a career-high 17 points and pulling down a season-best 9 rebounds. The junior has yet to record a double-double in her career at Texas State, but is slowly scratching on the door. Ups and Downs After shooting over 50 percent in the season opener against Texas College, Texas State backed it with a 30 percent effort against ULM. The Bobcats shot 47 percent from the field against SW Assemblies of God, but in the following two games shot less than 28 percent. It s Raining Three s In Texas State s meeting with Texas College the team went 14-for-16 from three-point range and tied a single-game record for most shots made behind the arc. The last time Texas State made 14 three pointers was Feb. 14, 2008 against McNeese State.
3 Spread the Wealth In the Bobcats season opener against Texas College, five players notched double-digit scoring outings. Sophomore Kelsey Krupa led the charge with 16 points. Aimee Hilburn chipped in 13 points, while Anna Brzozowski, Tamarra Evans-Sluga and Chika Ofoegbu all finished with 12 points. All Under 5 Minutes Walk-on Samantha Hanie played five hard minutes of basketball in Texas State s season opener. She recorded six points, grabbed one rebound and picked up a pair of personal fouls. All A-Board Texas State smashed the rebounding margin against Texas College with a +19 mark. The Bobcats recorded 49 rebounds, led by a sixboard night from 5-6 guard Victoria Davis, to Texas College s 30 rebounds. Bobcats Ink Instrumental Pair for 2014 Head Coach Suzanne Fox announced two student-athletes signing National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Jasmine Baugus Killeen, Texas Killeen HS - Baugus, a 5-10 guard/forward, is the nation s 40th-best shooting guard prospect of the 2010 class according to ESPN.com Hoopgurlz recruiting rankings. While playing at Killeen High School under head coach Latisha Williams, Baugus averaged 10.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game as a junior. She also helped lead KHS to a 28-7 record and spur the Lady Kangaroos to a District 25-4A title. Deming Clinch Katy, Texas Cinco Ranch HS Clinch, a 5-11 guard/forward from Cinco Ranch High School. Clinch was an All-Region and District 17-5A 1st-Team selection her junior season, and while playing for head coach Eric Bartlett at CRHS, averaged 15.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Clinch was recently named to the Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston 2009 Preseason Team and will look to lead the Lady Cougars to a successful season 2010 campaign. The Cougars entered the season ranked No. 19 in preseason polls and are now under the direction of head coach Michelle Morris. News & Notes Preseason Favorite in Davis Bobcat guard Victoria Davis was tabbed a Preseason All-Southland Conference second team selection. Davis averaged 9.3 points and 4.5 rebounds last season, and returns as the top scorer for the Bobcats. Davis notched a career-high 26 points last season in the Bobcats win over Texas A&M- Corpus Christi at the American Bank Center. Bobcats In Southland Polls In the Southland Conference Preseason Polls, the Texas State Bobcats were picked fourth in the Sports Information Director s Poll and fifth in the Head Coaches Poll. Texas State received 35 points in the SID poll, and 30 in the coaches poll. Fresh Faced Bobcats Texas State returns ten letterwinners from last year s roster, but just four (Victoria Davis, Aimee Hilburn, Chika Ofoegbu and Mallory Williams) have over one year of Division I playing experience. The 17-man roster features six freshman and one junior college transfer new to Strahan Coliseum. Setting the Standard Head coach Suzanne Fox is in her 13th season with the Texas State Bobcats, and has led her team to 158 Southland Conference wins. Under her direction, the Bobcats have made an NCAA Championship and WNIT appearance. Fox tops the Southland Conference coaches with a record, claiming not only the most wins by a current SLC coach, but the most wins in Texas State women s basketball history. Last season, the Bobcats went overall, claiming wins from top programs like Navy and Long Island. Fox s final victory of the season, a win over Stephen F. Austin, marked a milestone on her resume, achieving her 275th career coaching victory. In , Texas State placed a single-member on the All-Southland Conference postseason team and off the court; Bobcat Marie Moser ( ) was the recipient of the league s F.L. McDonald Scholarship. This post-season scholarship award is the Southland s ultimate academic honor. Just two years ago, Fox made history with Texas State s first modern era 20-plus win season. The overall record was solidified by a 14-2 SLC record that clinched the Southland Conference Championship. The Bobcats advanced to the Women s National Invitation Tournament, a first in school history as well, and advanced to the second round. In Texas State s first game of the postseason, the team defeated SWAC powerhouse Prairie View A&M in a historic win. The win not only advanced Texas State to its second game in the WNIT, but marked the first-ever postseason tournament win by either the men s or women s basketball team at Texas State as a Division I institution. The season marked the third-straight year the women s basketball team finished with a.600 or higher win percentage, a feat that had not been accomplished since the season under WBCA Hall of Fame member and former Bobcat head coach Linda Sharp. The stellar year was sealed with Fox being named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year for the second-time in her career. Alongside Fox in league honors was senior Joyce Ekworomadu who was named SLC Player of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year. From , Fox highlighted her resume by earning her 200th career victory and 125th win at Texas State. In 2005, Fox coached two-time Southland Conference Player of the Year Tori Talbert and SLC Newcomer of the Year Tamara Thompson. In the season, Talbert earned her first Player of the Year honor, aiding the team to an season en route to the NCAA Championship Tournament. This marked just the second NCAA postseason appearance in Bobcat basketball history and the first for Fox in her Division I coaching history. During her 12-year stint at Texas State, Fox has coached six All-SLC First-Team members and 14 to the second and third teams. The Bobcats have claimed one Freshman of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and one two-time Player of the Year in Talbert under Fox. Additionally, three former student-athletes have gone on to compete professionally oversees and many are sustaining very successful careers in the public service industry as health professionals, firefighters and coaches. Prior to Texas State, Fox was the head coach at her alma mater, Abilene Christian University for five years. In her final four season at ACU, she also served as the Senior Women s Administrator. In her time as the Wildcats head coach, Fox coached two National Players of the Year and two First-Team All-Americans in addition to winning two Lone Star Conference Titles In addition to the team accolades, Fox brought home her own hardware in 1996, when she was named the WBCA National Coach of the Year. Before Fox was named head coach at ACU, she served as an assistant to long-time head coach Burl McCoy. Prior to her success as a coach, Fox played four seasons at ACU, garnering several honors in the Wildcat purple and black. Fox was named GTE Second-Team Academic All- America, First-Team All-LSC, Conference MVP, All-Academic LSC and LSC Defensive Player of the Year. Currently, Fox remains No. 7 All-Time in the ACU careerscoring list with 1,502 points and an 18-point average per game in her senior campaign. Fox earned her bachelor s degree in physical education and math education in 1990 from Abilene Christian. As an NCAA post-graduate scholarship recipient, she also received her master s degree in school administration from ACU. Fox was awarded the ACU Trustee s Student Award in 1990 and was selected to speak at a GTE Academic All-America seminar in Presently, Fox serves as the chair for the Carol Eckman Award committee. The award is given to an active WBCA coach who best demonstrates the character of the late Carol Eckman, the mother of the collegiate women s basketball national championship. Fox has served as a clinician for the NCAA s Youth Education Sports Program (YES) at the WBCA National Convention, and is the WBCA Conference Captain for the Southland Conference. This year, Fox was selected as the representative for WBCA Region 5 on the Russell Athletic/WBCA National Coach of the Year committee.
