5 Boe Pearman After just four short years at the helm of the University of Rhode Island women s basketball program, head coach Boe Pearman and the Rams have the program attracting national attention. The campaign was a benchmark season for coach Pearman and the Rams. Rhode Island opened the campaign with a 6-0 start, the best beginning to a season in school history. Under Pearman s direction the team then posted 16 wins, the fourth-best mark in the program s history. After finishing conference play with a 5-11 mark, Rhode Island was the surprise of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, hosted at the Ryan Center. The team knocked off top-seeded Saint Joseph s in the opening round before rolling through Dayton in the quarterfinals and Xavier in the semifinals. In the Championship game of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, in front of a national audience on ESPN 2, Pearman guided the Rams to perhaps their best performance of the season, nearly knocking off host George Washington for a bid to the NCAA Tournament. In four Years, Pearman had the Rams on the cusp of a bid to the WNIT for just the second post-season appearance in school history. Despite not receiving a bid to the post-season tournament, Pearman and the Rams were selected as one of only 16 schools to appear in the prestigious Preseason WNIT, proving that the Rams had in fact, made their splash onto the national scene. During her time at URI, Pearman has developed and coached a two-time all-conference player and had six players earn Rookie of the Week honors. She has also transformed the Rams into the top defensive team in the league, holding opponents to just 60.3 points per game this season. Prior to arriving at Rhode Island, Pearman spent two years with the American Basketball League s most popular franchise, the New England Blizzard, first as an assistant then as associate head coach on Hall-of-Famer K.C. Jones staff. In Pearman s first season, New England climbed out of the Eastern Division s cellar into the play- The Boe Pearman File Birthdate: August 5, 1962 Hometown: Hagerstown, Md. As the coordinator of Maryland s recruiting program, Pearman s efforts were critical to the program s lofty achievements. She was responsible for the 1994 recruiting class that was ranked as high as fourth nationally. Among Pearman s recruits were two players who played for the U.S. Select Team, four players on the U.S. Junior-National Team and eight individuals who participated in the U.S. Olympic Festival as well as three ACC Rookie-of-the-Year Award winners.
