20 HEAD COACH JOHN BRADY Since Arkansas State hired him as the school's new basketball coach six weeks ago, John Brady -- yes, that John Brady -- has been determined to put his self-described "stamp" on the program. After meeting with each returning member of the team, Brady sought out the trainer and the academic advisers and the sports information officials and the facility management crew. He even sat down with the head of the dance squad. In short, Brady approached every individual who had anything -- however peripheral -- to do with the basketball team. In his spare time, he signed two recruits, restructured the booster club, changed the team uniform and commissioned renovations of the weight room and coaches' offices. He explained his rationale: Players and recruits want to see change, they want to see improvement. Scott Cacciola Memphis Commerical Appeal May 14, 008 John Brady didn t make many promises, only one. He s committed to winning. The newly named Arkansas State basketball coach, Brady said he would teach his teams to play to their strengths...winning has been a signature at every place Brady has coached. Rebuilding troubled programs into respected contenders is another. Matt Roberson, Jonesboro Sun March 0, 008 My commitment is to do everything I possibly can to get this program to the top of the Sun Belt. Whether it s five years or eight years, this could possibly be my last stop. I could coach here eight years and retire somewhere. Every job I ve always taken, my approach is to think long term. John Brady, ASU Head Basketball Coach Quote from the Arkansas-Democrat Gazette March 0, 008 At the right time, Arkansas State needed John Brady when he needed and wanted ASU, and a new excitement surrounds the basketball program in Jonesboro.
