1 / SEWARD EAGLES BASKETBALL PLAYERS & PARENTS INFO SHEET UNIFORMS The Eagles program owns these uniforms. They will need to be returned at the end of the season. No one will be allowed to play on Eagles teams without a uniform. If uniforms need to be ordered, Jean Bennett will be in contact with you about ordering. Our Away Uniform colors are black, red and white. Our Home Uniforms are light gray with black & red markings. PRACTICES (See practice schedule page enclosed) Please remember this is a team sport and it is important that you be at every practice and game possible. If you cannot, please let your head coach know before the practice or game you will be missing. We only have so many practices so do your running, conditioning, dribbling, and free throws at home. We really want to spend time setting up plays and scrimmaging. Bring your water jug & towel to practice with your name on them. GAMES (See game schedule page enclosed) This season we will be playing our home games at two different locations. The primary location will be at Lincoln Christian School and the secondary location will be at Unadilla Civic Center. Lincoln Christian School is located at 5801 S. 84th Street in Lincoln. The Unadilla Civic Center is located at 770 G Street in Unadilla, NE (Proceed East on HWY 2 from Lincoln 20 miles to the Village of Unadilla. As you approach the town turn Right on I Street (the first street just outside of town). Head South to 7th Street and turn left to G Street. The Civic Center is located on the East side of G Street between 7th & 8th Streets. PLAYERS Please remember to pray for us, we are praying for you. Also remember we are honoring God above all things. If we see ungodly conduct, you will be called on it, and measures will be taken. We want to always be salt & light wherever we go. We want our first commitment to be Christ, in all things. Our prayer is that we grow more Christ like, we grow more friendships, and we grow into better basketball players. ELIGIBILITY We welcome players from Lincoln, Seward and the surrounding areas who are homeschooled for 50% of their classes. Our current teams are as follows: Varsity and Jr. Varsity Girls: 6th 12th grades Junior High Girls Team: 5th - 8th grades* Varsity and Jr. Varsity Boys: 9th 12th grades Junior High Boys Teams A & B: 5th - 8th grades* *could include players up to 15yrs old SPORTSMANSHIP Players, we have a few rules you will be expected to adhere to. Fits of temper are not allowed on the court. Questioning the referees calls is the coaches job. If there is any display of bad sportsmanship there are four steps we will generally follow: First, you will be warned that you may not act that way; Second, you will be pulled and benched for the rest of the game; Third, you will not be allowed to attend the next game, not even as a fan; Fourth, you are off the team. The Eagles board reserves the right to adjust the disciplinary actions up or down depending on the seriousness of the offense up to and including removing a player from the team on the first offense. Parents, your job is to encourage the student athletes and coaches. Please remember these are just games we want to win, but not lose our witness for Christ. THANKS Thank you for letting us be a part of your children s lives. We really do love them and want the best for them. Also thank you for helping when we ask. We cannot do this alone. Most of all we thank you for your prayers. revision date:

5 / SEWARD EAGLES BASKETBALL PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY PARENT-PLAYER-COACH CONTRACT Welcome to the Lincoln/Seward area Eagles athletic ministry. It is with great joy we are starting on this journey. The games of our youth are wonderful pastimes and provide excellent opportunities for coaches and parents to teach life lessons as well as apply Christian principles both on and off the playing fields. Our overall goal is to provide a wholesome environment in which our young people can enjoy the sport, learn its rules, and develop their skills with an eye towards a lifetime of enjoyment from a balanced select team perspective. A typical Select Team is most interested in what the kid can do for the sport. Many times the selection process can be harsh with more emphasis on winning NOW!. The Lincoln/Seward Eagles approach will be more What can the sport do for the kid! Being a team sport experience, talent does play a role, but not at the expense of the fact that we are working at building Christian character. We are all truly God s ambassadors in the wide world of sports, and our character can have a tremendous influence on those around us. These principles can help keep sports in perspective at a time when that is getting increasingly difficult to do. Therefore, what are the roles and expectations of parents, players and their coaches? Expectations of the Coaches 1. To treat every young athlete as if they were their own son or daughter with the respect they deserve. 2. To show effective leadership by modeling proper behavior in actions and speech. 3. To make reasonable demands and have reasonable expectations. 4. To conduct organized and meaningful practices. 5. To never insult or demean a player. 6. To provide a safe and healthy environment to play in. 7. To teach players to work hard and to do their best. Expectations of the Parents 1. To encourage and support the concepts of Lincoln/ Seward Eagles team sports. 2. To remember that my child plays for his or her enjoyment, not mine. 3. To make every reasonable effort to have your child attend all scheduled practices and games and fulfill their commitments to the team. 4. To treat coaches, fellow parents, game officials, players and spectators with respect. 5. To influence my child to abide by the contract they have signed. 6. To provide a safe and healthy environment to play in. 7. To contact the athletic director first if you have a comment or concern. 8. To handle a dissatisfaction with coaching, parents are not to speak directly with the coach(es) especially during games, halftimes, in public, etc. Dissatisfied parents must take at least one Eagles board member along with them to voice their concerns with the coach(es) in a private discussion. 9. To provide a ride for my own child to the out of town games or to arrange one. 10. To support the program by fulfilling my responsibilities in helping with the many functions surrounding the program. Expectations of the Players 1. To be on time for practices and games (and let the coach know if I can t make it). 2. To listen to instructions and follow the team rules. 3. To be willing to be coachable. 4. To show respect and loyalty towards coaches, players, and the authority figures around you. 5. To demonstrate a love for practice and playing the game. 6. To strive to be a good student and show leadership. 7. To dress appropriately and represent the team in a Godly and modest manner. 8. No female athletes may ride with male athletes unless they are siblings, with a parent or have their parent s permission. 9. To not use drugs, tobacco, alcohol or any other controlled substances that would hurt my body or hinder my testimony for Christ with one another. 10. To report all injuries to the coaching staff as soon as possible. 11. To refrain from abusive or foul language and to always remain encouraging to those around me. 12. To always be safe in all my behaviors.

8 WORK SCHEDULE FOR EAGLES HOME GAMES Part of the success of the Eagles Basketball program is the willingness of the parents to help. Thank you! Once you receive the schedule showing your assigned times, if you have a conflict, we ask that you please find someone to trade with so your job will be covered. Please let Jean Bennett know if you are switching with someone. It is your responsibility to either cover your assignment or trade with someone if you are unable. Admissions: Please be at the admissions table one half hour before the start of the first game. Do not leave the admissions table until your replacement comes. Admissions will be taken until halftime of the last game. Please do not leave the money box unattended at the table. Give the cash box to Jean Bennett when you finish with the last shift. Concessions: The Eagles concession stand operates at all home games. Our primary purpose is two-fold: to bring in as much money as we can to help with our program costs and to offer good, reasonably priced food to our fans. Here is a list of general things you will need to know when helping with concessions. 1. Our coaches & their families (each family member) receives a free meal deal if they have a game that day. Any additional food for the coaches and their family needs to be paid for. 2. The game referees receive free food. 3. Please pay for any food you or your families eat while you are working in the concession stand. 4. Unless you are working in the concession stand, please don t be in the kitchen. Let your children know they should only be in the kitchen when they are helping you. Adults should be the only ones to handle the money. Please do not walk out of the kitchen and leave the money box unattended. 5. You will be contacted to make cookies or bars to sell at our concessions. 6. We will have the food and drinks set up for you. Please be ready to start selling 30 minutes prior to the start of the first game. Many people buy food on their way in and we want to be ready for them. The last names on the list will clean up the kitchen after the games are over. 7. Jackie Zimmerman & Carol Kelsey are in charge of the concessions stand this year. Thank you! Clean Up Duties after the last game: We are responsible to clean up all areas we use in the building, including the Gym, Locker Rooms, Rest Rooms and Hallways. Brooms and other cleaning supplies are located in the janitor closet. Please help us all to get home sooner by beginning cleanup immediately after the games end. Gym: Sweep up all trash. Pop cans go into the designated trash can. Any pop spills need to be mopped with water. Rest Rooms: Pick up all trash off floors and place trash bags in dumpster. Put new liners in the trash cans. Sweep if needed. Hallways: Sweep up all trash. Empty trash cans into dumpster. Put new liners in the trash cans. Dressing Rooms: Straighten up, check for trash & sweep if needed.
