Sunday s contest is slated for a noon start at the Liberty Lacrosse Field. The Lady 2-1 entering the game, picking up a 15-4 win earlier in the week (Wednesday) at East Carolina. The Colonials are also 2-1. They defeated Radford, 15-11, on Friday. The two programs will be meeting for the fourth time all-time. Robert Morris holds a 3-0 series edge. The Colonials defeated the Lady Flames, 13-10, in the most recent meeting, March 13, Brianna McCaffrey paced Liberty in that contest in Moon Township, Pa., with four goals. KEY LIBERTY PLAYERS ROBERT MORRIS COLONIALS (2-1) LADY FLAMES NEWS AND NOTES The Lady Flames Jenna Joyal leads the squad with seven goals through three games. The sophomore poured in a career-high four markers in Wednesday s victory at ECU. She scored nine goals as a freshman, last season. Liberty assisted on an impressive 12 of their 15 goals at ECU. The Lady Flames currently lead the Big South with 7.00 assists per game and rank 19th in the nation in that category. Kayla Foster and Michaela Rich both place 31st in DI lacrosse in assists with five each. Rich is also No. 49 in the country in points (10). The Liberty defense averages caused turnovers per contest, good for the 17th-best mark in the country. Freshmen Mia Toscano and Anna Keebler both scored their first career goals against East Carolina. Junior Kayla Foster checks in at No. 39 in the nation in draw controls per game (5.50). The Pennsylvania native tied a career high with eight in the season opener at Mercer, Feb. 10. Liberty is 1-1 all-time on Feb. 25. 2 LADY FLAMES BY THE NUMBERS 1: Libery has one runner-up finish in the Big South Women s Lacrosse Championship (2015). 2: The Lady Flames have featured the last two Big South Women s Lacrosse Freshmen of the Year in Kayla Foster (2016) and Carly White (2017). 3: Liberty finished third in the country a year ago in caused turnovers per game (12.47), placing first in the Big South in the category. 5: Over the last three seasons, five or more Liberty players have received all-conference accolades. In 2015 and 2017, there were six apiece, while the Lady Flames garnered five selections in : Liberty lacrosse had six Big South All-Conference honorees in 2017: Carly White (BSC Freshman of the Year, first team), Courtney Brown (second team) Kayla Foster (second team), Victoria Tickle (second team), Brianna McCaffrey (honorable mention) and Lindsey McNamara (honorable mention). 10: The Liberty women s lacrosse team is living by its Team 10, this spring. The team describes this as, Our mission is to live, love and lead through our Team 10 and to have the courage to consistently hold every member of our family to our standards. 11: Kayla Foster broke the school record for points in a single game last year (April 12, 2017), with her threegoal, eight-assist performance in a 21-7 Big South win at Gardner-Webb. 16: The Lady Flames scored 16 or more goals five times in They went 5-0 in those contests. 25: As a freshman, Carly White recorded 25 points (17 g, 8 a) in seven Big South games on her way to being named BSC Freshman of the Year. She also garnered inclusion on the Inside Women s Lacrosse All-Rookie team. 52: Katy Pridemore holds the program record for single-season goals with 52, which she accomplished in : Morgan Becker set program record for points in a season with 70 in : Former Lady Flame Kristen Masullo ( ) accumulated 675 career saves. Junior goalkeeper Katherine Widrick is the program s active leader with 197. LIBERTY ROSTER CLOSE-UP Liberty Head Women s Lacrosse Coach Kelly Nangle s 2017 roster features a blend of veteran leadership and youth. The 26-player roster is comprised of eight freshmen, seven sophomores, eight juniors and three seniors. Senior Lindsey McNamara, redshirt senior Michaela Rich and redshirt junior Faith Wells will serve as team captains for the 2018 season. THOUGHTS FROM THE PLAYERS I am especially excited for this game because is our 2018 home opener, so we are able to play in front of all our friends and family. Many of the girls from my club team and girls that I competed against in high school are on this team. It is always fun to see each other compete at this level. Sophomore Midfielder Molly Blake I m really looking forward to competing against RMU this week because my family is coming to see our first home game. I am excited to compete against a girl that I graduated high school with. We ve had home games in the fall, but this game is officially in season. I am so excited for what s to come! Freshman Defender Claire Bratchie SCOUTING ROBERT MORRIS The Colonials are led in scoring by Meghan Crouse with seven goals. Crouse also leads the team with 14 draw controls. Kelley Flynn is second on the squad with five goals. Robert Morris scores 9.67 goals per game while surrendering 8.33 goals per game. They ve dominated the draw circle, 40-24, over the first three games. Seventh-year head coach Katrina Silva will likely go with Katelyn Miller (2-1, 6.77 GAA, 9 SV) in goal BIG SOUTH OUTLOOK Liberty has been tabbed to finish fourth in the Big South preseason poll for a fourth straight season Big South champion High Point is picked to finish first, followed by Winthrop (T-2), Campbell (T-2), Liberty (No. 4), Radford (No. 5), Longwood (No. 6), Presbyterian (No. 7) and Gardner-Webb (No. 8). Junior attacker Kayla Foster and sophomore midfielder Carly White both garnered inclusion on the Big South Women s Lacrosse Preseason All-Conference squad. Liberty will begin Big South play on March 31 at home against the Presbyterian Blue House. The 2018 Big South Women s Lacrosse Championship will be contested on April 28, May 4 and May 6. LIBERTY NOTES SERIES HISTORY Liberty is in search of its first victory over Robert Morris. The Colonials hold a 3-0 series edge, including a win over the Lady Flames in JOYAL DIVES INTO TWO SPORTS Lady Flames sophomore Jenna Joyal is competing on the lacrosse team and swimming & diving team (as a diver) at Liberty. After scoring two goals in the Lady Flames season opener at Mercer, Joyal traveled to Athens, Ga. earlier this week to compete at the CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships RECAP The Lady Flames posted a 6-13 mark, finishing fourth in the Big South with a 4-3 record. They defeated Presbyterian (18-8), Longwood (18-8), Gardner-Webb (21-7) and Radford (13-10) in league play while falling to Campbell, High Point and Winthrop. Their season ended in the Big South Championship semifinals against No. 1 seed High Point. White earned Big South Conference Freshman of the Year honors, giving Liberty the league s top rookie in two straight seasons (Kayla Foster, 2016). White also earned first team all-conference distinction and was joined by Foster (second team), Courtney Brown (second team), Victoria Tickle (second team), Brianna McCaffrey (honorable mention) and Lindsey McNamara (honorable mention). FAMILY MATTERS -Lady Flames junior Brittany Tickle and Victoria Tickle ( ) are sisters. -Liberty senior Abby Britton and former Lady Flame Paige Britton ( ) are cousins. She recorded 6.47 shots per game (No. 31 in nation). The Boca Raton, Fla., native scored four goals at Mercer in the season opener on Feb. 10. FOSTER, MCCAFFREY CHASING HISTORY Junior attacker Kayla Foster has put up 124 points in her first two-plus seasons in a Liberty uniform. She is 61 away from passing Morgan Becker for the all-time program mark. With 45 more points, she will move into third place, currently occupied by Sam Struss (163 points, ). Meanwhile, with four draw controls at ECU on Wednesday, junior midfielder Brianna McCaffrey surpassed her coach, Nina Dunay, for career draw controls in program history. Additionally, she has seen nine of her players named to the VaSID All-State team and a VaSID Rookie of the Year selection (Kayla Foster, 2016). Nangle has also fostered academic success, with four Big South All-Academic honorees and six IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selections. Nangle has also seen three of her players earn inclusion on the Inside Women s Lacrosse All-Rookie team. Nangle collected her first win at the helm of the program on Feb. 21, 2014 when the Lady Flames defeated Elon, 13-9, at the Liberty Lacrosse Field. Prior to coming to Liberty, Nangle spent two seasons at Central Connecticut State, helping the Blue Devils reach new heights during her tenure. She posted a overall record and a 12-6 mark in Northeast Conference action. Nangle guided Central Connecticut State to a program record tying seven victories in 2012, while setting new program standards with five NEC victories and six home wins. She was recognized for her efforts, by being named the 2012 NEC Coach of the Year. In addition, her senior keeper, Erin DeLancey, was selected the NEC Goalkeeper of the Year. In 2013, Nangle s squad finished second in the NEC with a 7-2 conference record. The Blue Devils made their first-ever appearance in the NEC Championship, advancing to the semifinal round. Central Connecticut State posted a 9-9 overall record in 2013, surpassing the previous school record for overall wins. Six of Nangle s players earned All-NEC honors, dramatically increasing the program s number of all-conference honorees. Central Connecticut State had 11 total previous all-conference honorees in program history. Prior to her heading Central Connecticut State, Nangle spent three years as an assistant coach at Rutgers ( ). She oversaw the Scarlet Knights defense, while assisting with the program s recruiting efforts and overseeing the team s academics. Rutgers posted a record during her three seasons in Piscataway, N.J., maintaining a presence in the national rankings each year. The Scarlet Knights defense improved each season, spotlighted by a second-place finish in goals against average in the Big East during her final season with the program (9.06 in 2011). In 2008, Nangle served as the head coach at St. John s Catholic Prep in Frederick, Md. She helped the Vikings increase their win total by four times during her one season, as St. John s Catholic was winless the year prior to her arrival. Two of her players earned all-conference honors, while two additional players received all-county recognition. Nangle, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., played soccer and lacrosse at Mount St. Mary s from and earned her bachelor s degree in business. ASSISTANT COACHES NINA DUNAY Assistant Coach Enters her 3rd season at Liberty. Dunay played at Liberty from and is the program s all-time leader in goals (125) while ranking second in points (175). TORI QUINN Assistant Coach Enters her 1st season at Liberty after a decorated four-year playing career and two-year coaching career at Canisius. LIBERTY LACROSSE FIELD Serving as the home field for the Liberty women s lacrosse program, the Liberty Lacrosse Field opened in Feb The facility has a seating capacity of 750 and features the Shaw Sportexe PowerBlade HP+2.0 Monofilament Synthetic Turf System and has lines for both lacrosse and soccer competition.
