First draw between the Lady Flames (13-4) and Eagles (13-5) is slated for 7 p.m. at Vert Stadium in High Point, N.C. Liberty is enjoying its most successful year in program history with 13 wins and posted a 6-1 mark in conference play to earn the No. 2 seed and a bye into the semifinal round. Meanwhile, Winthrop finished 5-2 in the league in drawing the No. 3 seed. The Eagles defeated Longwood, 22-6, in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. The winner of Friday night s contest will move on to face either No. 1 seed High Point (15-2), the host site of the tournament, or No. 4 seed Campbell (9-9) in the championship on Sunday at noon. The Panthers and Camels will square off at 4 p.m., Friday, prior to the Liberty-Winthrop contest. LADY FLAMES NEWS AND NOTES Liberty averages caused turnovers per game (No. 1 in nation) and has nine games of 15 or more, this year (season high was 19 caused turnovers vs. PC, March 31). KEY LIBERTY PLAYERS NO. 3 SEED WINTHROP EAGLES (13-5) Liberty is currently No. 37 in the NCAA Lacrosse RPI, its highest ranking in program history. The Lady Flames finished as the 87th-ranked team in the final RPI standings a year ago. As a team, Liberty is No. 2 in the country in ground balls per game (24.06), No. 5 in shots per game (36.00), No. 9 in shots on goal per game (25.88), No. 15 in scoring defense (9.41), No. 15 in win percentage (.765), No. 20 in assists per game (6.41), No. 20 in scoring margin (4.24) and No. 20 in save percentage (.486). The Lady Flames matched a program record with seven Big South All-Conference selections in 2018: Brianna McCaffrey (first team), Carly White (first team), Kayla Foster (second team, All-Academic team), Lindsey McNamara (second team), Mia Toscano (second team), Michaela Rich (honorable mention) and Hannah Quast (honorable mention). McCaffrey is No. 4 in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.82) and No. 17 in ground balls per game (3.12) while leading the Lady Flames with 40 goals. On the offensive end, Liberty features a balanced attack, with eight players having 13 or more goals and seven players with 24 or more points. 2 LADY FLAMES BY THE NUMBERS 1: Liberty is No. 1 in the country in caused turnovers per game (14.29). 5: Over the last four seasons, five or more Liberty players have received all-conference accolades. The Lady Flames matched a program record with seven all-conference selections in : The Liberty women s lacrosse team is living by its Team 10, this spring. The team describes this as, Our mission is to live, love and lead through our Team 10 and to have the courage to consistently hold every member of our family to our standards. 11: Kayla Foster broke the school record for points in a single game last year (April 12, 2017), with her three-goal, eight-assist performance in a 21-7 Big South win at Gardner-Webb. She matched that performance with an 11-point (1 goal, 10 assists) effort this season (April 11) at Longwood. 13: Liberty has a program-record 13 wins in The Lady Flames previous high was nine wins (2015). Junior goalkeeper Katherine Widrick is the program s active leader with 288 for her career. SERIES HISTORY/CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY Liberty is 2-5 all-time against Winthrop but defeated the Eagles, 12-11, on Senior Day on April 14 in perhaps the most exciting game of the season. In that contest, freshman midfielder Mia Toscano scored the game-winning goal with 3:31 left, and junior Katherine Widrick saved a shot from the nation s leading goal scorer, Nicole Beatson, with less than 10 seconds to play to preserve victory. Sophomore Jenna Joyal paced the team with three goals in the contest, while Brianna McCaffrey and Toscano each tallied two goals. The win allowed the Lady Flames to finish unbeaten (7-0) at home for the first time in program history. Senior Abby Britton s behind-the-back goal in the second half garnered national attention. The Lady Flames hold a 3-5 all-time record in the Big South Championship. They won two games in 2015 in making their only title game appearance in program history and defeated Longwood a year ago in the quarterfinals. Liberty is the No. 2 seed in the Big South Women s Lacrosse Championship for the second time ever (other: 2015) but received a bye to the semifinal round for the first time ever. SCOUTING WINTHROP The Eagles, who won conference titles in 2015 and 2016, are led by senior attacker Nicole Beatson. Beatson leads the nation in goals with 82 and broke the Big South single-season goals and points records, last Saturday against Longwood. Beatson is fifth in the country in points (101) for a Winthrop team that is 13th in DI in scoring offense (15.56). Head coach Julika Blankenship s squad features four players with 50 or more points on the year. Kristen Shriver ranks fifth in the country in assists (50). The Eagles are 8-2 all-time in the Big South Championship and 1-0 versus Liberty. Key offensive players: Nicole Beatson (82 g, 19 a, 101 pts), Kristen Shriver (29 g, 50 a, 79 pts), Katie Clark (43 g, 12 a, 55 pts), Katherine Judge (49 g, 3 a, 52 pts) Key defensive players: Mackenzie Cunningham (18 gb, 16 ct), Jordyn Elliot (17 gb, 15 ct) Goalkeeper: Alaina Girani (13-5, GAA,.474 SV Pct. 164 SV) LIBERTY NOTES 2018 BIG SOUTH RECAP Liberty, who was has tabbed to finish fourth in the Big South preseason poll, finished second in the conference at 6-1. The Lady Flames outscored their conference foes, , in seven games. The 6-1 mark is the best record Liberty has ever had in a conference regular-seaosn slate in program history. Foster led the squad with 31 points on 11 goals and 20 assists. Rich paced the squad with 18 goals in conference play, while goalkeeper Katherine Widrick was 3-0 with a.560 save percentage and 42 saves against league competition. RICH THOUGHTS What I am looking forward to most about this weekend is playing in the Big South Conference tournament. I am just so excited to finally play after a two week stretch of hard work and preparation. Redshirt Senior Captain Michaela Rich HISTORIC SEASON Liberty is having its best season ever at 13-4 heading into the Big South Championship. The Lady Flames have the 15th-best winning percentage (.765) in the country currently and head into the tournament on a four-game winning streak. UP NEXT If the Lady Flames were to win on Friday over the Eagles, they would face either No. 1 seed High Point (15-2) or No. 4 seed Campbell. Liberty fell to High Point in the regular season at Vert Stadium, while they defeated Campbell, 13-9, in the regular-season finale on April 21 in Buies Creek, N.C. Sunday s championship game, scheduled for a noon start, will be streamed live on ESPN3, and High Point Communications will be providing live stats as well for the contest. 2

Additionally, she has seen nine of her players named to the VaSID All-State team and a VaSID Rookie of the Year selection (Kayla Foster, 2016). Nangle has also fostered academic success, with four Big South All-Academic honorees and six IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selections. Nangle has also seen three of her players earn inclusion on the Inside Women s Lacrosse All-Rookie team. Nangle collected her first win at the helm of the program on Feb. 21, 2014 when the Lady Flames defeated Elon, 13-9, at the Liberty Lacrosse Field. Prior to coming to Liberty, Nangle spent two seasons at Central Connecticut State, helping the Blue Devils reach new heights during her tenure. She posted a overall record and a 12-6 mark in Northeast Conference action. Nangle guided Central Connecticut State to a program record tying seven victories in 2012, while setting new program standards with five NEC victories and six home wins. She was recognized for her efforts, by being named the 2012 NEC Coach of the Year. In addition, her senior keeper, Erin DeLancey, was selected the NEC Goalkeeper of the Year. In 2013, Nangle s squad finished second in the NEC with a 7-2 conference record. The Blue Devils made their first-ever appearance in the NEC Championship, advancing to the semifinal round. Central Connecticut State posted a 9-9 overall record in 2013, surpassing the previous school record for overall wins. Six of Nangle s players earned All-NEC honors, dramatically increasing the program s number of all-conference honorees. Central Connecticut State had 11 total previous all-conference honorees in program history. Prior to her heading Central Connecticut State, Nangle spent three years as an assistant coach at Rutgers ( ). She oversaw the Scarlet Knights defense, while assisting with the program s recruiting efforts and overseeing the team s academics. Rutgers posted a record during her three seasons in Piscataway, N.J., maintaining a presence in the national rankings each year. The Scarlet Knights defense improved each season, spotlighted by a second-place finish in goals against average in the Big East during her final season with the program (9.06 in 2011). In 2008, Nangle served as the head coach at St. John s Catholic Prep in Frederick, Md. She helped the Vikings increase their win total by four times during her one season, as St. John s Catholic was winless the year prior to her arrival. Two of her players earned all-conference honors, while two additional players received all-county recognition. Nangle, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., played soccer and lacrosse at Mount St. Mary s from and earned her bachelor s degree in business. ASSISTANT COACHES NINA DUNAY Assistant Coach Enters her 3rd season at Liberty. Dunay played at Liberty from and is the program s all-time leader in goals (125) while ranking second in points (175). TORI QUINN Assistant Coach Enters her 1st season at Liberty after a decorated four-year playing career and two-year coaching career at Canisius. LIBERTY LACROSSE FIELD Serving as the home field for the Liberty women s lacrosse program, the Liberty Lacrosse Field opened in Feb The facility has a seating capacity of 750 and features the Shaw Sportexe PowerBlade HP+2.0 Monofilament Synthetic Turf System and has lines for both lacrosse and soccer competition.
