The Wildcats defeated the Big Green by a score Friday night in Evanston. Lindsey McKone leads the attack with nine points (4g, 5a) in the two contests while Lauren Gilbert (7g, 1a) and Selena Lasota (7g, 1a) have eight each. Brennan Dwyer has 18 of the team s 30 draw controls. Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Krupnick notched a careerhigh 16 saves in Friday s win. Lasota and Krupnick were both tabbed Preseason All- Americans. LAST TIME WE MET Duke jumped out to a 6-2 halftime advantage and held off a second-hally rally by the Wildcats to earn a thrilling 9-8 victory in a battle of top-20 teams last February at Koskinen Stadium. With the score knotted, 7-7, inside the final 12 minutes, Duke received an emphatic goal from Grace Fallon and what would prove to be the game winner delivered by Charlotte North. Goalkeeper Gabbe Cadoux capped a 10-save performance with three consecutive stops on Northwestern s final offensive possession to preserve the one-goal advantage at the final horn. DUKE VS. THE BIG TEN The Blue Devils are all-time against Big Ten teams. AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS The Blue Devils are against ranked foes since Duke faces its first ranked opponent of the season Sunday in the seventh-ranked Wildcats. NOTING DUKE NORTH ALREADY IN RECORD-BREAKING FORM After etching her name in the Duke record books as a rookie, sophomore attacker Charlotte North hasn t missed a beat to open She tallied five goals in the season opener against Villanova and racked up 11 points on five goals and six assists Wednesday against Presbyterian. The 11-point output broke Duke s single game points record of nine previously held by North and former Blue Devils Maddie Crutchfield, Kelci Smesko and Tricia Martin. North and Cincinnati s Monica Borzillo lead the country with their single game high of 11 points. North is also third nationally heading into the weekend in points per game (8.50). North s six assists in the win over the Blue Hose matched Crutchfield s single game record established against Louisville in BLUE DEVILS BLANK BLUE HOSE Duke kept a clean sheet for the third time in program history and second time in as many meetings with Presbyterian Wednesday at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils held their opponent scoreless for the first time since defeating the Blue Hose by a 23-0 margin in Goalkeepers Gabbe Cadoux, Jamie Lockwood and Chase Henriquez all contributed minutes in the shutout win. Duke surrendered just three shots on the day. HOT SCORING START The Blue Devil attack totaled 39 goals in the first two contests, marking the program s highest scoring start since the 2014 Duke squad also started the year with 39 goals in two games. The Blue Devils received goals from 11 different players in the win over Presbyterian and featured seven different goal scorers in the season opener against Villanova. DOMINATING ON THE DRAW Duke has outdrawn opponents by a margin in two contests to start the season. Sisters Olivia and Maddie Jenner have combined for 22 of the team s 36 draw controls. Sophomore midfielder Catriona Barry ranks third on the squad with five. OLIVIA JENNER TOPS CENTURY MARK With her goal at the 5:30 mark in the first half of the season-opening win over Villanova, senior attacker Olivia Jenner notched the 100th point of her career. She owns 105 points in 56 career contests. Jenner became the 28th player in program history to reach the century mark in career points. She also ranks among the top 30 players in Duke history in career goals (27th, 74), assists (t22nd, 31) and free position goals (t22nd, 11) and is the Blue Devils all-time leader in career draw controls (375). DUKE DEBUT A number of Blue Devil freshmen made their official Duke debut on the field over the team s first two contests. Olivia Rubin and Maddie Jenner recorded two tallies each in the season opener while Veronica Hineman recorded her first goal in a Blue Devil uniform Wednesday against Presbyterian. CORDREY PUTS TOGETHER CAREER DAY Junior Catherine Cordrey turned in an impressive performance on the attacking end in the season opener. The Summit, N.J., native finished with a career-best six points and four ground balls, and matched career highs in goals (4), assists (2), free position goals (2) and caused turnovers (3). Cordrey was one of three Blue Devils with four ground balls in the win, joining goalkeeper Gabbe Cadoux and defender Callie Humphrey. PRESEASON ACCOLADES Senior attacker Olivia Jenner garnered Preseason All- ACC recognition. A first team IL Media All-America pick last spring, Jenner led Duke at the draw in 2018 with an ACC-best 149 draw controls. Jenner was also named to Inside Lacrosse s Preseason All- America third team in December, and was joined in earning 3 DUKE IN THE POLLS Week IWLCA IL Media USLM Preseason 24 t19 -- Feb preseason accolades from the publication by teammates Callie Humphrey and Charlotte North, who were honorable mention selections. DUKE RANKED IN PRESEASON POLLS Duke earned a spot in preseason polls released by the Intercollegiate Women s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and by Inside Lacrosse. Head coach Kerstin Kimel s squad was one of seven ACC teams to begin the spring ranked top 25 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. Eight of the Blue Devils 2019 opponents were ranked in the IWLCA preseason poll, including four inside the top 10. MADDIE JENNER EARNS SPOT ON U.S. U19 TEAM Blue Devil freshman Maddie Jenner was named to the 2019 U.S. U19 women s national team training roster following a late January Spring Premiere weekend in Stanford, Calif. Jenner, who had a game-high nine draw controls in an 18-8 victory over England, was one of 23 players to make the latest U19 roster, released Jan. 31. CHALLENGING SLATE AWAITS Duke s 2019 slate features seven contests against opponents who were selected to the 2018 NCAA Championship field. In addition, half of Duke s 2019 opposition finished this past season with 10 or more wins. LEADING THE WAY Blue Devil seniors Olivia Jenner, Jamie Lockwood, Ellie Majure and Charlotte Tucci have been tabbed team captains for the 2019 season. FRESHMAN CLASS AMONG TOPS IN COUNTRY Duke s freshman class was tabbed No. 4 in the country by Inside Lacrosse in the publication s fall Recruiting Issue. Maddie Jenner, an attacker and draw specialist from Annapolis, Md., was among the 2018 ILWomen Power 100 Women s Incoming Freshmen Top 10, coming in at No. 4. She was joined in the publication s Class of 2018 Power 100 by Anna Callahan of Glenwood, Md., at No. 12, Olivia Rubin of Baltimore, Md., at No. 44 and Sophia LeRose of San Diego, Calif., at No. 46. GRIFFIN JOINS BLUE DEVIL COACHING STAFF Head coach Kerstin Kimel announced in July the addition of Brooke Griffin to the Blue Devil staff as an assistant coach. Griffin completed an outstanding collegiate career at Maryland in 2015, twice earning first team All-America laurels from the Intercollegiate Women s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She was the Big Ten Attack Player of the Year and a Tewaaraton Award nominee as a senior.
