Pape is currently fifth in the league in scoring at 15.0 points per game and seventh in rebound at 7.7 boards per contest including 26 offensive rebounds. Scouting the Spiders... The University of Richmond Spiders are out to an impressive start to the season at a prefect 6-0. The Spiders are winning games by an average of 17.3 points and are coming off a win over Howard on Wednesday night. Richmond is knocking on the door of cracking the ESPN/USA Today and Associated Press Top-25 Polls, receiving votes in both polls this week. The Spiders are led by their senior all-conference guard Kate Flavin, who is averaging 20.5 points per game on the year. She is shooting a whopping 64.3% (45-70) in her first six games while also averaging a team best 8.2 rebounds per outing. Also in double digits for Richmond is junior Saona Chapman who is scoring at 16.0 points per clip this season. She leads the team in three-point makes (16) and assists (38). Sophomore Christina Campion averages 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds on the year while shooting 60.4% (32-53) from the field. As a team, the Spiders are shooting 50.0% from the field, hitting 171-of-343 in the season s first six games. Richmond was picked to finish first in the Atlantic-10 Conference s West Division. The Spiders are coming off a 23 win season a year ago where they advanced to the WNIT semi-finals. The Coaches Ed Swanson (SHU 89) enters his 15 th season as head coach at his alma mater. Swanson posts a record in his career at Sacred Heart. His teams have an record since joining the Division I ranks in Swanson is the program s longest tenured coach and is the alltime leader in coaching wins, (215) and winning percentage (.544). He also earned his first ever NEC Brenda Reilly Coach of the Year award after guiding SHU to a school record 21 wins last season. Joanne Boyle (Duke 85) is in her third season at the helm of the Richmond women s basketball program. She has compiled a record in her three years as the Spiders head coach. Pioneers vs. the Atlantic Sacred Heart is 1-3 all-time versus teams from the Atlantic-10 Conference. The Pioneers snapped a two game skid against the conference in last year s season opener when they beat the University of Massachusetts, SHU fell at UMass in the season opener, The Pioneers lost to La Salle University, 59-55, on December 30, 2000 and to the University of Rhode Island on December 30, Sacred Heart in the Northeast Conference... Sacred Heart became a member of the Northeast Conference during the season and since that time posted an overall and conference record. The Pioneers have qualified for the NEC Tournament each of their five seasons in the league and have never finished lower than third in the final league standings. SHU is coming off their most successful year in the conference, where they finished with 14 wins and the second seed in the tournament. Streak at the Pitt Halted... The Pioneers carried the 7th longest home winning streak in the nation into last Saturday s game with Hofstra at 19-straight. The Pride halted any SHU hopes of 20 in a row with a bucket with just two seconds remaining to steal a win and end a streak that dated back to the season. Their last regular season loss was to St. Francis (PA) in February of 2003 (66-63 OT). By losing to Iona on Monday night, Sacred Heart has now lost two straight at home for the first time since SHU is at home since joining the NEC and since the building opened in The Pitt Center currently ranks 11th in the nation as the toughest arena for opponents to earn a win. Pioneers Logging Major Minutes... Four Pioneers have started this season averaging 30 minutes or more per contest. Sophomore Amanda Pape leads the

3 team logging 37.4 minutes per game. She is followed by sophomore Kerri Burke at 35.3 minutes, junior Nicolle Rubino at 34.7 minutes and senior Colleen White at 29.6 minutes per game this year. Pape has played all 40 minutes in two-straight, against Hofstra and Iona. Losing Streak... Sacred Heart enters today s game trying to snap a three-game losing streak. The Pioneers have never lost four-straight since joining the ranks of Division I in Their last fourgame losing skid occurred during the season when they dropped games to Virginia Commonwealth, Dartmouth, Rhode Island and Harvard. The last time they lost five-straight was during the season when they ended the year with five consecutive losses. SHU s Offensive Triple Threat... The Pioneers is currently tied for first in the NEC in scoring offense at 64.0 points per game thanks to the tremendous scoring output of junior Nicolle Rubino and sophomores Amanda Pape and Kerri Burke. The trio have combined to average a collective 41.7 points this season or roughly 65% of SHU s offensive production. Pape leads the team and is fifth in the NEC at 15.0 points per game. She is followed by Burke at 13.3 and Rubino at 13.4 points per contest. Kerri Burke on top of her game... Sophomore point guard Kerri Burke is piling up some big numbers early on this season. The sophomore point guard scored a career-best 15 against Rider and then matched that number in the first half alone against Mount St. Mary s. Burke finished the Mount game with 23 to lead SHU to an win. She is third on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game while shooting 37.1% (13-35) from three with a team-best 34 assists. Burke...In a Sharing Mood... Kerri Burke is currently leading the Northeast Conference in assists at 4.86 assists per game. She has handed out 34 helpers on the year against just 26 turnovers, good for third in the league in assist/turnover ratio. Burke passed out a career-best 11 assists in the loss at Columbia becoming just the second Pioneer in the last 18 years to record double digit assists in a game. (Kate Maher -10 asst vs. Robert Morris). Julie Hogan recorded 14 against Bridgeport on February 24, No Sophomore Slump for Pape... Sophomore Amanda Pape tallied a season-high 22 points against Hofstra and also picked up her first double double of the season by also grabbing 10 rebounds. She put up back to back 18 point performances in Sacred Heart wins over Rider and Mount St. Mary s. With 16 against Iona, Pape now has double digits in six of SHU s seven games this year. A Master Thief... Amanda Pape is leading the conference in steals at 3.00 per game (21) as the Pioneers main piece of their full court pressure defense. She led the Pioneers last season in takeaways with 75 that put her second overall in the NEC. She made a season-high six steals in the win over Rider earlier in the year and came up with five in last Saturday s loss to Hofstra. Pape on the Boards... A 5-8 guard normally wouldn t be found in the top-10 in their league in rebounding, would they? Well, that s just what SHU s Amanda Pape is doing this season, pulling down 7.8 rebounds a game to rank 7th in the NEC. Pape has grabbed 54 boards on the year including 26 on the offensive end. The sophomore standout was second on the team last season with a 6.4 per game average. Rubino...Quick out of the Gates... Junior Nicolle Rubino has been one of the Pioneers main offensive weapons in the first six games this season. Rubino is averaging 13.4 points early on and has been a steady force behind the arc hitting and at the free throw line hitting She currently ranks ninth in scoring in the NEC, ninth in assists (21), fifth in steals (16) and seventh in free-throw percentage (80.0%). Duggan s Block Party... Senior Colleen Duggan reached a career-milestone in the win over Rider. Duggan picked up her 100th career blocked shot early in the first half and finished with three swats on the night. The 6-2 center led the NEC in blocks last season with 50 and is currently on top once again with 10 this year. She also holds the school record for blocks in a game with seven against Lafayette in Pioneer Sharp-Shooting... The Pioneers are once again near the top of the NEC in three-point shooting. SHU is hitting 34.9% (29-83) from behind the arc and boasts two of the leagues best from long range in Kerri Burke and Nicolle Rubino. Burke has

4 buried 37.1 (13-35) from downtown, including a career-high five versus Rider, while Rubino is hitting 31.6% (12-38). The Pioneers finished last season as the top ranked team in the NEC in 3- point field goal percentage, shooting.376 ( ). BIG Wins... Just seven games into this season and the Pioneers look to be continuing their trend of winning games by a double digit margin. 18 of SHU s 21 wins came by 10 or more points last season and the Pioneers three wins this season have been by 13 (Yale), 14 (Rider) and 18 (Mt. St. Mary s). In fact, SHU s margin of victory over the past two plus seasons have been so great that the Pioneers have won just 10 games by less than 10 points since the start of Tough Losses... Not only did the loss to Hofstra end SHU s home winning streak, it also marked the first time SHU lost a game in nearly two years when holding a lead with less than a minute to go. The last time was also the last game they loss during the regular season at home. SHU held a lead over St. Francis (PA) with 36 seconds to play on Feb. 1, 2003 before a Tonjee Ward jumper tied the game and sent it to overtime where the Red Flash earned the win. In fact, it happened twice that season. On January 11th, a pair of Ashlee Kelly free throws with 13 seconds left sent SHU home with a loss after leading by one with 43 seconds to play. Dynamic Duo... The Pioneers return their topscoring tandem from a year ago in junior Nicolle Rubino and sophomore Amanda Pape. The duo provided a large chunk of the SHU offense last season, combining for 26.6 points per game, nearly 40 percent of the offensive output. Pape is also Sacred Heart s top returning rebounder at 6.4 caroms a game. Rubino increased her assists (80) and steals (56) over her freshman campaign and will make the move to the small forward position this season. The X-Factor... With so much offense returning on the perimeter for Sacred Heart, the Pioneers will need to find another scoring option on the inside to balance the offense. Seniors Colleen Duggan and Colleen White along with sophomore Jasmine Walker will hold down the power forward and center positions to start the year. Duggan is coming off a season where she started 26 of 29 games, scoring 7.2 points per game and leading the NEC in blocked shots with 50. White scored 3.7 points per contest while shooting 44.1% from the field and finished the year 15th in the league in blocked shots (14). She will start the season as the Pioneers starting power forward. Walker was tremendously productive for SHU off the bench last year. She averaged 16.7 minutes per game and scored 5.5 points with 5.0 rebounds per game. Pioneers Sign Five in Early Signing Period... Sacred Heart University women s basketball head coach Ed Swanson announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent during the early signing period. Guards Khalia Cain (Manchester, CT / Manchester H.S.), Liz Gruber (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) and Rachel Hudec (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa H.S.) along with forwards Katie Brown (Manahawkin, NJ / Southern Regional H.S.) and Kaitlin Sowinski (Hopkinton, RI / Taber Academy) have all signed letters and will join the Pioneers next season. Cain, a 2004 CHCSA All-State selection a year ago, averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game. Gruber, as a junior, was named to the Newsday All-Staten Island First Team, the New York Daily New All-Staten Island First Team and the New York Sportswriter s All-NY State Second Team after eclipsing the 1,000 point plateau for her career. Hudec played at the 2004 Adidas Top-Ten Camp over the summer, an invitation only summer camp to the top high school players in the nation with major Division I talent. Brown has averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in her high school career and finished as the second leading scorer in all of New Jersey last season. Sowinski led her team to a perfect 25-0 season, capped by their third-straight NEPSAC Championship and team MVP honors. Ashley Kohl...Player to Coach... Ashley Kohl joins Ed Swanson s coaching staff as a volunteer assistant after a standout playing career for the Red and White. Kohl, who is currently a graduate student in Sacred Heart s 5th-year Internship Program for Education, will assist with coaching the guard position for the Pioneers. She appeared in 115 games and is listed in the SHU all-time record book for career three-point makes (173), career three-point percentage (.355) and three-point makes in a game (8). She will graduate in May with her certification and Master s degree in Elementary Education. Kohl currently works as an
