Sacred Heart has won six-straight in the series and has never lost to St. Francis as a member of the NEC. The Terriers come in on a hot streak of their own, toppling Quinnipiac, 97-83, last time out. The Pioneer s check into the halfway point of the season with a 10-4 overall record, marking the 13th straight season Sacred Heart has won at least 10 games. SHU s one-two scoring punch of Amanda Pape and Nicolle Rubino continue to fill up the stat sheet for the Pioneers, averaging a combined 29.6 points per game on the year. Sacred Heart won the only meeting last year, in Brooklyn, and has won all six meetings since joining the Northeast Conference in Three Pioneers found double digits in last year s meeting led by Nicolle Rubino who poured in a game-high 20 on eight-of-12 shooting. Ashley Kohl chipped in with 11 while Brooke Kelly finished with 10 points and eight rebounds in the win. The last Terrier win in the series came during the season when they posted a win at home. Sacred Heart took the first ever meeting, 62-50, to record the program s first-ever win. St. Francis won the next eight straight games before the two team s would meet again as members of the NEC. Scouting the Terriers... St. Francis (NY) got off to a slow start to the year, posting just a 1-9 record in their first 10 games. The Terriers have since been on the rebound, winning two of their last three including a big upset over NEC-power Quinnipiac, 97-83, last time out. Five players found double figures for the Terriers led by Brittany Porter who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. Kim Weir had 17 of her own as SFNY shot 50.9% (28-55) from the field and knocked down 35 of 46 from the free throw line. On the year, Weir leads the team averaging 8.6 points per game with Porter right on her heels at 7.8 ppg. Caitlin O Malley is the team s top rebounder pulling down 5.8 rebounds per contest. SFNY was picked to finish 11th in the NEC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Coaches Ed Swanson (SHU 89) enters his 14 th season as head coach at his alma matar. Swanson posts a record in his career at Sacred Heart. His teams have a record since joining the Division I ranks in Swanson is the program s longest tenured coach and is the alltime leader in coaching wins, (201) and winning percentage (.539). Brenda Milano (Wagner 95) is in her first season at the helm of the St. Francis-NY basketball program. She holds a 3-10 record in his first year at St. Francis College. SHU in the Northeast Conference... Sacred Heart became a member of the Northeast Conference during the season and since that time posted a overall and conference record. The Pioneers have qualified for the NEC Tournament each of their four seasons in the league and have never finished lower than third in the conference standings. Coach Swanson s 200th Career Victory... Head Coach Ed Swanson reached a coaching milestone this past Saturday afternoon, his 200th career win. Sacred Heart s win at Mount St. Mary s marked the 200th career victory in his 14 years as head coach of the Pioneers. During his tenure, Sacred Heart has posted just four losing seasons and are currently riding a streak of three-straight winning seasons and eight-straight years with at least a.500 record. Immediately prior to Swanson s arrival, the Sacred Heart women s team had a 4-21 record in Under his guidance, the climb to Division II respectability was accomplished within three seasons, from 8-19 in to in and, in , to 16-13, the program s first winning record in 11 seasons. After directing the Pioneers to a 20-7 record, the program s first 20-win season, in , Swanson was voted Coach of the Year in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) and the Women s Basketball Coaches Association s (WBCA) District I. He was runner-up for NEC Coach of the Year in , SHU s first season in Division I. Home Sweet Home... The Pioneers continue their winning ways in the friendly confines of the Pitt Center last season. How friendly you ask? The Pioneers are a perfect 8-0 at home this season and are 12-0 dating back to last season. Their last regular season loss came last year to St. Francis (PA) on Feb. 1st. SHU dropped an NEC Tournament game to Long Island a the Pitt Center in March as the tournament s host. The Pioneers are at home since joining the NEC and since the building opened in 1997.

3 The Pitt Center ranks 20th among all active Division I arenas and first in the NEC as the hardest place for opponents to earn a win. Rubino Hitting Her Stride... Sophomore Slump? Not for starting two guard Nicolle Rubino who is putting together a strong follow up to her NEC Rookie of the Year campaign. Rubino is currently second on the team averaging 13.5 points and has twice scored 23 points this season to establish a new career-high mark for points. She is the team s top 3-point threat hitting 39.2% (28-71) of her three s and has been almost automatic at the free throw line, knocking down 27-of-34 attempts (.794). She averaged a team-high 30.6 minutes per game and is second on the team in assists (38) and steals (26). Pape Making her Mark... Freshman Amanda Pape is off to a sizzling start to her collegiate career. Fourteen games in and Pape has already earned three NEC Rookie of the Week awards. She currently leads the team in scoring (16.1 ppg) and has five twenty-plus point performance this year. Pape also leads the team in steals with 37 (2.64 spg). She is shooting a team-best 51.7% (78-151) and has gotten to the free throw line 96 times, second in the NEC, hitting 66. She is the team s second leading rebounder at 6.4 per-game pulling down a team-best 36 offensive boards and has two double-doubles this year. White and Duggan on the Inside... Junior Colleen White and Colleen Duggan have emerged as the Pioneers go-to players in the paint. White has put up strong number over her last five games, including a career-best 16 point performance against Monmouth. Duggan has been equally impressive, scoring a career-high 15 against Wagner. The duo has averaged a combined 19.2 points over the last five games with White pulling down 5.8 rebounds over the same stretch of games. Kate Maher Sweatin the Small Stuff...Senior Kate Maher has been the workhorse for the Pioneers on the boards and in the paint this season. Maher grabbed 14 rebounds against Yale to eclipse her previous career-high of 12 set against Lafayette earlier in the year. She is leading the team in assists with 41 on the season and is the leading rebounder with 7.0 boards a game. Big Wins... Nine of Sacred Heart s 10 wins this season have come by an average of 18.0 points per contest. Their biggest margin of victory was a 33- point win over Lafayette in the second game of the season. Each of those wins have been by double digits with Yale and Fairleigh Dickinson coming the closest in 11-point losses. SHU s closest win came last time week with a six-point, 64-58, victory at Mount St. Mary s. I Love the 70 s...the 70-point mark seems to be the magic number for the Pioneers this season. The last eight games that SHU has hit at least 70 points they have come away the victor. That s Why its Called the Charity Stripe... Sacred Heart is shooting 70.3% ( ) as a team from the free throw line, tops in the Northeast Conference. The Pioneers were 27-of-30 in the win over the Ragin Cajuns with Colleen Duggan and Mary Rush sinking all of there eight attempts apiece. Amanda Pape has gotten to the line more than any of her teammates with 96 attempts, including a 11-for- 12 night against Yale. Nicolle Rubino, Pape and Rush are the team s top shooters percentage wise. Rubino is hitting 79.4% (27-34), with Rush right behind, burying attempts (.828) and Pape is hitting 68.8% (66-96). SHU Hits 300!... Sacred Heart s win over Yale University marked the 300th victory in the 30 year history of Pioneer women s basketball. SHU s program started in posting a 4-7 record under head coach Mickey Stratton. Their first winning season came one year later in , also under Stratton, finishing 9-5. Ann DeLuca took over the reigns the following year and led SHU to threestraight winning seasons. The program struggled over the next 11 years until current head coach Ed Swanson took over in It took Swanson just two seasons to turn around over a decade of losing, ending a 13-year run of losing seasons in with a record. Sacred Heart s best season was during the campaign when the posted a school-record 20 wins. Their worst year came during when they finished winless at SHU has faced the University of New Haven more than any other times, 52, while also posting the program s most wins against one team against the Chargers with 25. SHU s best winning percentage against one team is.846 (11-2)* against Southampton-LIU. Their lowest winning percentage is against Stonehill at.056 (1-17)*. 11 different

4 players have earned all-conference honors over the year s while Swanson has twice been recognized with Coach of the Year honors. *minimum of 10 meetings Team Captains... Seniors Ashley Kohl, Kate Maher and Shannon Quinlivan have been elected team captains for the season. Kohl played in all 28 games in and found herself in the starting point guard role 13 games into the season. She responded by leading the team to 18 wins on the season, the second highest total in school history. In addition to her accomplishments on the court, she was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-America District I University Division second team. Kohl holds a 3.98 grade point average, the highest on the team, with a major in Psychology. Maher was one of the Pioneer s most tenacious defenders in , often playing injured throughout the 28 game schedule. The junior forward cracked the starting lineup in 10 of the last 11 games last season, and led a Pioneer defense that held teams to just 55.0 points per game and 36.9% shooting from the field over that stretch. Quinlivan missed the first two games last season recovering from a preseason ankle injury, but rebounded to become a solid role player for the Pioneers. Youth Movement... Sacred Heart welcomes the highly regarded Class of 2007 into the program this season. Six freshman join the mix for and are expected to step in and contribute right out of the blocks. Stamford s Amanda Pape, the Gatorade High School Player of the Year in Connecticut, leads a class that also includes Waterbury, CT native, Mary Rush. Rush will see time at both the two and three positions this season. Kerri Burke looks to be the Pioneers point guard of the future while the front line will gain some depth with the additions of forwards Jasmine Walker, Aleisha Mott and Colleen Bray Walk-On... Senior Julie Messenger joins the team as walk-ons for the season. Messenger joins the squad after a very successful career on the SHU field hockey team. She recently was named to the 2003 STX/NFCHA Division I All-Northeast Region Second Team and earned All-Northeast Conference honors for the fourth consecutive season. She played in 79 career games, scoring 42 goals with 17 assists for 101 career points. Pioneers Sign Three in Early Signing Period... Sacred Heart University women s basketball head coach Ed Swanson announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent during the early signing period. Forwards Jocelyn Kelly (Poughkeepsie, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) and Mikara Cimmino (Hampden, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and guard Lisa Moray (Hopewell, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) have all signed letters and will join the Pioneers next season. Kelly, a 6-2 forward, comes to Sacred Heart from perennial national-powerhouse Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, NY. Kelly helped guide her team to their 14 th trip to the New York state Final Four, a state record. Cimmino is a 6-1 forward out of Minnechaug Regional High School. She played for the Connecticut Starters AAU Under-17 team coached by Christie Madancy that finished third at the national tournament in Disney World over the summer. Moray, a 5-9 guard, hails form Hopewell, NY and Roy C. Ketcham High School. Moray enters her senior season 400 points shy of the 2,000-point plateau. She along with Jocelyn Kelly were members of the same team that competed at the USJN Tournament in Washington D.C. over the summer. Northeast Conference Preseason Rankings The Sacred Heart women s basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll for the season, as selected by a vote of the leagues head coaches. The Pioneers received one first place vote are tied for fourth with Monmouth. St. Francis (PA) was slated to repeat as conference champs, being picked first for the second-straight season. St. Francis-NY SHU Ranked 19th in WBCA Academic Top-25 The Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2003 Academic Top 25 Honor Roll for NCAA Division I, recognizing the nation s highest team grade point averages (GPA) for the season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches. The Sacred Heart women s basketball team made the top-25 for the third-straight season with a team grade point average of The Pioneers rank 19th and are one of four teams from the Northeast Conference to be ranked in the top-25.

5 History This is the 30 th season of Pioneer basketball as Sacred Heart closes in on some program milestones. With a win over Yale on December 3, 2003, SHU recorded the 300th win in program history. Head Coach Ed Swanson also hit a milestone this season, as he earned his 200th victory. Sacred Heart s first year of competition was the season under head coach Mickey Stratton. SHU carries an overall record of 306 wins and 416 losses for a.424 winning percentage. SHU joined the Division I ranks in the season as a member of the Northeast Conference, making this the fifth season at the Division I level. SHU has not had a losing season in Division I, posting a record and four consecutive trips to the NEC Tournament. Pioneers in the Record Book...
