The Hawks are 1-5 in championship game appearances, with the one win coming against Fairleigh Dickinson in the inaugural NEC Women s Basketball Tournament in 1987, before the Northeast Conference had secured an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Monmouth is 11-4 at home in the NEC Tournament, while posting a 5-8 record on the road. In neutral site games, MU is 6-9. HAWKS vs. pioneers IN THE NEC TOURNAMENT The Hawks and Pioneers have split four prior meetings in the NEC Tournament, with Monmouth taking wins in the semifinals in 2004 and the quarterfinals in 2008, both on neutral courts. Sacred Heart has won twice in the semifinals at home in 2007 and A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH SHU The Hawks are 3-9 against Sacred Heart at the Pitt Center, with all 12 contests pitting Monmouth against 22nd-year SHU Head Coach Ed Swanson. Both NEC Tournament pairings played in Fairfield went the Pioneers way, both semifinal meetings. The four-year seniors in Sunday s championship game have a 4-4 record against each other. But after the Pioneers swept the three-game season series from the Hawks in their most recent championship season of , the current seniors freshman campaign, Monmouth has posted a 4-1 record, including wins in the last four meetings. RUNNING SHU OUT OF THE GYM The Hawks started the second half of the Feb. 6 meeting with Sacred Heart on a 14-0 run, turning a one-point deficit at the half into a 13-point lead. Sacred Heart got no closer than nine points the rest of the way. The Hawks held the Pioneers to just 21.7 percent shooting (5-23) in the second half, and kept SHU without a point for the first 6:37 of the period, another 4:57 in the middle portion of the stanza, and without a field goal for the final 6:02 of regulation. sticky talons Led by three steals apiece from Gena Broadus, Alexis Canady and Betsy Gadziala, Monmouth made a season-high 15 steals against Sacred Heart on Feb. 6. Alysha Womack and Gabby Singer added two thefts apiece, while Abby Martin and Chevannah Paalvast added one steal each. half ain t bad Monmouth shot 51.0 percent (25-49) from the floor against Sacred Heart, the second of three times the Hawks have eclipsed 50 percent this season. Leading the way was Alysha Womack, who made 78.6 percent (11-14) of her shots against the Pioneers. hoping history repeats itself Teams that have returned to the NEC Tournament Championship Game a year after falling in the title tilt have posted a 3-1 record the second time around. In each instance, a title ultimately resulted. The lone loss belonged to Saint Francis (Pa.), which fell in consecutive seasons to Mount St. Mary s before overcoming the Mount in 1996, setting off a five-year championship reign ( ). Mount St. Mary s fell to Fairleigh Dickinson in the 1992 championship game before bouncing back to defeat Marist in the 1993 title game. Saint Francis (Pa.) turned the trick for a second time in 2010, defeating LIU Brooklyn after a 2009 championship game setback to Sacred Heart. The Red Flash made it two straight titles, defeating MU in Ballin Outta Control The Northeast Conference Tournament seems to bring out the best in Abby Martin. The junior forward has averaged 17.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 58.4 percent from the floor in six tournament games played. She was named to the 2011 Northeast Conference Tournament All- Tournament Team after averaging 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game during MU s run to the final. She shot 57.8 percent from the field, adding six blocks and four steals in the tournament. Two of Martin s nine career double-doubles have come in the tournament.

3 tourney tremendous The Hawks are 6-0 so far this season in tournaments. Unofficial winners of the Thanksgiving Challenge with wins over Lehigh and Lafayette, Monmouth also won the Hawk Holiday Classic with wins over Norfolk State and Villanova. The Hawks ran their tourney record to 6-0 with NEC Quarterfinal and Semifinal victories over LIU Brooklyn and Quinnipiac, respectively. UPPERCLASSMAN STEPPING UP After scoring just 20 points on 25.7 percent shooting in the first three NEC Tournament contests of her career, Alysha Womack has poured in 63 points on 51.2 percent (21-41) shooting in the last three. Womack scored 19 points and added nine rebounds in the 2011 NEC Tournament Championship game against Saint Francis (Pa.), before scoring an efficient 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting against LIU Brooklyn in this year s quarterfinals. She then added 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting and added six rebounds at Quinnipiac in the semifinals. LIKE A ROCK Chevannah Chevy Paalvast produced perhaps the best all-around performance of her career with 14 points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in 30 minutes against Quinnipiac in the NEC Semifinals on March 6. The junior wing posted the stat line while earning the defensive assignment of All-NEC First Team guard Felicia Barron. Paalvast held Barron to seven points on 2-for-14 shooting. STRONG STARTERS The Hawks have scored 42 points in the first halves of consecutive NEC Tournament games, signifying the most points they ve scored in the first half of any game this season. Monmouth turned up the defensive pressure in the first half against LIU Brooklyn, scoring 23 points off 13 Blackbirds turnovers to take a 19-point edge into the locker room at halftime. The Hawks then made eight of their first nine field-goal attempts at Quinnipiac en route to 56.7 percent (17-30) first-half shooting against the Bobcats, creating a 14-point halftime cushion. KEEPING TURNOVERS DOWN KEY FOR MONMOUTH The Hawks have posted a 16-1 record this season when turning the ball over the same or fewer times than their opponent. By contrast, Monmouth is 3-11 when committing more turnovers than the opposition. QU DEFENSE NO MATCH FOR MU OFFENSE The Hawks offense shot 52.0 percent (26-50) against Quinnipiac in the NEC Semifinals, Monmouth s second-best field-goal efficiency of the season (53.6 percent at LIU Brooklyn). Making the feat all the more impressive was that Quinnipiac posted the best field-goal percentage defense in NEC games in the regular season (.359). 20/20 With a 21-point effort against Quinnipiac on March 6, Alysha Womack has eclipsed 20 points in six of 21 games played this year. She s also scored 19 points three times. she s a gamer After suffering an ankle sprain that ended her game with 6:34 remaining in regulation on Feb. 27 against St. Francis (N.Y.) and not practicing all week, Alexis Canady came back to start against LIU Brooklyn on March 3 and played 34 minutes. The senior floor general made her first three three-point attempts, staking the Hawks to a 13-7 lead in the early going, and Monmouth never trailed the rest of the way. Canady finished with 13 points and three assists without committing a turnover, in spite of near-constant full-court pressure by the Blackbirds. DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN...AND AGAIN Alysha Womack was named to the All-NEC Second Team for the third-consecutive season, the league office announced on Feb. 29. Womack has averaged 16.0 points per game in 20 games played after returning from a knee injury that claimed the season s first 11 games. In 16 conference games played, Womack averaged 16.4 points per game, good for seventh in the league. The Hawks went on an eightgame winning streak, including their first win over a Big East program in Villanova since , upon Womack s return to the line-up. Monmouth has posted a 16-4 record with Womack in the line-up after going 3-8 without her. Monmouth took a victory in Brooklyn on Jan. 14, before winning twice at home within a week, on Feb. 25 and on March 3. FLYIN 10 DEEP 10 different Hawks scored at least two points in the first half of Monmouth s victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) on Feb. 27. The accomplishment marked the third time this season 10 different Hawks scored at least one point in a single game, a feat also achieved Nov. 15 at Wake Forest and Feb. 15 at Fairleigh Dickinson. In the latter two contests, all 10 Hawks made at least one field goal, while the 10th Monmouth player scored from the free-throw line against the Demon Deacons. GOMEZ TO THE GOAL With 2.3 seconds remaining in regulation and the Hawks trailing by one point to LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 25, Monmouth Head Coach Jenny Palmateer drew up an inbounds play from underneath the basket in which Alexis Canady lofted to pass overtop of the defense and Chanel Gomez scored the game-winning lay-up with 0.9 seconds left. Gomez finished the game, on Senior Day, with 11 points and eight rebounds. WOMACK ONE THOUSAND With 16 points at Wagner on Feb. 18, Alysha Womack became the 15th player in Monmouth Division I history to eclipse 1,000 points. Womack also became just the fifth player in program D-I history to reach 1,000 points prior to their senior season, joining Michelle Cappadona, Amanda Rosato, Michelle Allen and Linda Wilson. Watching one thousand Alexis Canady hopes to follow Womack into the 1,000-point club, currently standing 47 points away. Just 15 players in Monmouth s Division I history have reached the 1,000-point plateau. second-half shooters The Hawks shot 72.7 percent (16-22) in the second half at Wagner on Feb. 18 to turn a tie game at halftime into a double-digit no-doubter. Alysha Womack (3-3) and Shira Shecht (2-2) made 100 percent of their shots in the stanza, while Chanel Gomez (5-6), Abby Martin (3-4), Chevannah Paalvast (2-3) and Betsy Gadziala (1-2) also made strong contributions. GOMEZ peaking at the right time After sitting out all of the season and the first 15 games of , Chanel Gomez seems to be peaking at the right time. The senior post player compiled just her third career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds at Wagner on Feb. 18. The effort comes after a six-point five-rebound performance at FDU on Feb. 15. CARLY three-bault Carly Thibault has made a team-best 40.2 percent (47-117) from long range this season, including 5-of-7 in the season opener against UMBC on Nov. 13 and a perfect 4-for-4 on Jan. 14 at LIU Brooklyn. The junior guard opened the season shooting 49.0 percent (24-49) from long range through eight games, but suffered through a 2-for-23 (.087) stretch in the following seven games. Her 53.8 percent (21-39) performance in the next 12 games pushed her season percentage to 42.9 percent (47-111), before six-straight misses, covering the last four games caused a dip to 40.2 percent, still a team best. WHEN SHE S HOT, SHE DOESN T MISS Carly Thibault was the last of Monmouth s 10 players to score against FDU on Feb. 15, but she finished with a team-high 11 points. Thibault went 0-for-3, all from long range, in the first half, before making all of her three attempts in the second half, also all from three-point land, while adding a pair of free throws. All told, the junior sharpshooter did not miss in the second stanza.

5 GOOD-ZIALA Betsy Gadziala hit 7-of-13 attempts from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line for a career-high 18 points, Feb. 11 against Fairleigh Dickinson. Coincidentally, the junior forward had made 7-of-13 attempts in her previous career-high, early this season at Manhattan. The difference in establishing the new career high-water mark was an additional two made free throws against the Knights. SERIOUSLY? SHE S NEVER WON IT BEFORE NOW? Alysha Womack was named the Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week for the first time in her career after averaging 23.0 points per game on 60 percent shooting (18-30) against league leaders Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac. The two-time All-NEC Second Team selection earned 2010 NEC Rookie of the Year as a freshman, but had never been honored as NEC Player of the Week prior to Feb. 7, martin s matching numbers Abby Martin went for 12 points and 12 rebounds on Feb. 4 against Quinnipiac, signifying the junior forward s eight career double-double and third of the year. Big shot womack Alysha Womack hit a pair of big shots in the final minute of the Hawks road win at Central Connecticut on Jan. 30. Womack knocked down a jumper with her toe on the three-point arc with 31 seconds remaining to tie the game at 56-56, before calmly nailing the game-winning three-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining. reduced to a flicker Following an defeat to the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash on Dec. 5, the Hawks turned the tables with a victory over Saint Francis on Jan. 23. Monmouth forced 22 Red Flash turnovers while committing just 10 giveaways on the night. flying back into the game Despite trailing by 12 points, 36-24, early in the second half on Jan. 30 at Central Connecticut, the Hawks overcame the deficit to defeat the Blue Devils, 59-56, in regulation. Alysha Womack led the way with 13 second-half points, including the game-winning three-pointer with 1.2 seconds left. Alexis Canady also scored eight second-half points, including a pair of three-pointers. WE RE GOING STREAKING THROUGH THE QUAD and to the gymnasium. With wins over Robert Morris and Saint Francis (Pa.), the Hawks ran their winning streak to eight games, tying last year s squad for the longest winning streak the program has seen since the season. The streak was snapped Jan. 28 at Bryant. In 93-94, from January 8 to February 10, MU won 10 straight contests. In the season, the Hawks had winning streaks of 10 games in a row twice, and finished perfect in Northeast Conference play at The second streak ran to 11 games with a win to open the season. The longest winning streak in program history came in , when the Hawks ran off 13 straight victories. GETTING DEFENSIVE The Hawks held opponents to just 52.0 points per game in their eight-game winning streak. In a stretch of five wins against Villanova, Wagner, Mount St. Mary s and LIU Brooklyn, opponents averaged 48.6 points per game while shooting just 33.1 percent (88-266) from the floor. she s baaaaaaaaaack If Alysha Womack s 22 points at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 16 didn t pronounce her fully back to speed from a knee injury that claimed the season s first 11 games, her career-high 27 points on 7-for-11 shooting, 2-for-3 from long range and 11-for-13 from the free-throw line against Robert Morris on Jan. 21 line surely did. Her previous career high was 25, achieved twice in her first two seasons in the Blue and White. thibault mania Carly Thibault made 11 of 12 attempts (.917) from the floor, covering three games against LIU Brooklyn, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Robert Morris. Included in the mark were 8-of-9 three-point attempts (.889). CHANEL NO. 35 Senior forward/center Chanel Gomez returned to the line-up Jan. 14 at LIU Brooklyn and returned to form Jan. 21 against Robert Morris. In just eight minutes played against the Colonials, Gomez was a difference maker with six points, four rebounds and two steals. not playing like reserves Led by Alysha Womack s 27 points and nine more from Carly Thibault, the Monmouth bench produced a season-high 47 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 21. The duo did their damage while shooting a combined 10-of-14 (.714) from the floor and 4-of-5 from long range (.800). The game prior, Womack and Thibault combined for all of Monmouth s 30 bench points, then a season high. TURNOVER TURNABOUT The Hawks scored a then-season-high 28 points off turnovers, Jan. 16 at St. Francis (N.Y.), while holding the Terriers to seven points off their own turnovers, second only to the six points off turnovers that Monmouth held Lafayette to in victory on Nov. 27.

6 do your hawks have large talons? Abby Martin tore away a career-high five steals, Jan. 16 at St. Francis (N.Y.). The junior forward matched the team single-game high previously established by Alexis Canady, Dec. 3 at Robert Morris. HOT SHOTS - part MU The Hawks shot a season-high 53.6 percent (30-56) from the floor, including 67.9 percent (19-28) in the second half, in their road win at LIU Brooklyn. The hot shooting propelled Monmouth from an eight-point deficit to a 14-point edge. GENA GENA BROADUS BROADUS Senior forward Gena Broadus compiled her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Jan. 14 at LIU Brooklyn. The numbers were one off of Broadus career highs of 14 points last season against Columbia and 12 rebounds last season at Marquette. NO FLY ZONE While the Hawks were shooting 67.9 percent (19-28) in the second half against LIU Brooklyn on Jan. 14, Monmouth was also playing stifling defense on the Blackbirds. The Hawks held LIU to just 32.0 percent (8-25) in the second half to hand the Blackbirds their first home loss in eight tries this season. Of those eight made field goals, five came in the final minutes, when MU had established a doubledigit advantage. The Monmouth defense held LIU to just 15.8 percent (3-19) in more than 14 minutes to open the second half. Included in the effort were two stretches of nearly five minutes in which LIU was held without a made field goal. Monster performance Abby Martin compiled her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 14 rebounds against Mount St. Mary s on Jan. 9. The junior forward made 9-of-18 attempts from the floor and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. Martin pulled down eight defensive rebounds and battled for six offensive caroms. WHOA-MACK Alysha Womack is blossoming in her return from injury, as evidenced by her 17-point performance against Mount St. Mary s on Jan. 9. In her fourth game since returning from a knee injury, Womack connected on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. BENEFICIAL BENCH Led by Alysha Womack s 17 points and nine more from Betsy Gadziala, the Monmouth bench scored a then-season-high 29 points against Mount St. Mary s on Jan. 9. THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER Chevannah Paalvast scored in double figures in four of five games, Dec. 29-Jan. 14, all Monmouth victories, after establishing a previous season high of eight points. Paalvast averaged a team-high 13.0 points per game during the Hawk Holiday Classic. She doubled her previous season high with 16 points, also eclipsing her previous career high of 11 points, in a victory over Norfolk State on Dec. 29. She then connected for 10 points, including several clutch shots against Villanova on Dec. 30. She also blocked three shots on the two-day tournament. The New Zealand native then scored 10 points against Wagner on Jan. 7 and added 12 points at LIU Brooklyn on Jan. 14. Paalvast s previous season high of eight points came at East Carolina, while her previous career high of 11 points came last season against Quinnipiac. MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH Betsy Gadziala narrowly missed her first-career double-double with nine points and a career-high 10 rebounds, Jan. 9 against Mount St. Mary s. The junior forward efficiently knocked down 4-of-7 attempts from the floor and made 1-of-2 free throws. She also dished out three assists in the victory. Balanced Attack Six Hawks scored at least eight points in Monmouth s victory over Wagner on Jan. 7. Alexis Canady led the way with 15 points, while Chevannah Paalvast added 10 points. Betsy Gadziala, Alysha Womack and Shira Shecht contributed nine points apiece, while Gena Broadus had eight points. GAD-WOW-A In her first nine games started this season, Betsy Gadziala rewarded Coach Jenny Palmateer for her confidence. Gadziala averaged 9.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals while shooting 46.3 percent (37-80) in 27.4 minutes per game. Gadziala scored 11 points and added six rebounds in 30 minutes to help the Hawks to a victory over Lehigh on Nov. 25, before adding a career-high 14 points and six rebounds on 7-of-11 shooting against Lafayette on Nov. 27.
