9 CHIEFS CELEBRATE 50 YEARS IN KANSAS CITY The 2012 season marks the 50th year in Kansas City for the Chiefs. During a May 15 press conference at Kansas City s Union Station, Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt announced several plans and initiatives to thank fans and the community for their support through the years. Over the last fi ve decades, we have been honored to call Kansas City the home of the Chiefs, and in celebration of our 50th year in Kansas City, we want to say thank you to the best fans in the NFL, Hunt said. Below are the initiatives and plans that Hunt announced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Chiefs football in Kansas City. PERSONALIZED CHIEFS NIKE JERSEY - All Season Ticket Holder accounts received a personalized Nike Chiefs jersey with a name and number of their choice. - Each jersey came with a Season Ticket Holder (STH) patch either sewn onto the jersey or left loose. CHIEFS FAN TOUR - The Chiefs have been traveling to cities in the Chiefs Kingdom to say thank you to the fans. The Super Bowl IV trophy is a part of the tour that features former Chiefs greats Len Dawson and Bobby Bell, Chiefs Cheerleaders and other special guests. - Thus far, the tour has stopped at the Chiefs training camp home of St. Joseph, Mo., and in Topeka, Kan., with future trips planned to Springfi eld, Mo., Wichita, Kan., and Kansas City. CHIEFS RETURN TO JOPLIN TWICE OVER SUMMER In the immediate aftermath of the May 22, 2011 tornado that struck Joplin, Mo., Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt committed to sustained assistance from the Chiefs organization in relief and rebuilding efforts. To date, the club and its fans have pledged more than $250,000 in support. On Aug. 23, more than 200 volunteers, including Chiefs Senior Vice President of Business Operations Bill Chapin, Chiefs Ambassadors Bill Maas, Anthony Davis, Shawn Barber and Tom Baugh, Chiefs Cheerleaders, Red Coaters and KC Wolf joined with representatives of the Joplin School District, organizers from KaBOOM! and members of the Joplin community to build a new Chiefs-themed playground at the Beacon Alternative School. The project, funded by the Chiefs, including donations received from the Kansas City community and an NFL Fitness Zone Grant, will serve Beacon School students, as well as hundreds of children in the surrounding neighborhoods. Today s kids spend less time playing outside than any previous generation in part because only one-in-fi ve children live within walking distance of a park or playground. This play defi cit is having profound consequences for kids physically, socially and cognitively. The new playground will provide hundreds of children in the Joplin community with a safe place to play for years to come. CELEBRATING COMMUNITY & THE NEXT GENERATION OF FANS - The club is committed to participating in more than 50 community events in the metro area with player and staff participation. - The Chiefs will provide 50 underserved elementary schools a Chiefs Play 60 Fitness Kit. The kit is used to make a fitness circuit encouraging kids to get their 60 minutes of activity per day. CELEBRATING THE SPIRIT OF KANSAS CITY - 50 KANSAS CITIANS - The Chiefs will pay tribute to 50 Kansas Citians who have shaped the community. All 50 individuals will be recognized on KCChiefs.com with personalized stories about their achievements and contributions. CELEBRATING REGIONAL ART - In conjunction with leading members of the Kansas City arts community, the Chiefs will assemble a collection of artwork in select spaces at Arrowhead Stadium produced by artists from the surrounding region. The collection will be one of the fi nest of its kind in the Midwest and an important educational resource for the local arts community. Members of the Chiefs organization, including staff, Ambassadors, Cheerleaders, Red Coaters and KC Wolf joined members of KaBOOM! and the Joplin School District to build a new playground for children. On June 15, more than 150 members of the Chiefs organization participated in the 2012 Governor s Joplin Habitat Challenge, a collaborative effort by Missouri s prominent athletic organizations and the Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity to rebuild 35 homes. The Chiefs helped to build fi ve homes in Joplin as a result of this volunteer effort. CELEBRATING THE FUTURE - TICKETLESS TECHNOLOGY - The Chiefs have introduced a new technology that provides Season Ticket Holders a membership card that serves as their game tickets. An eco-friendly technology, the card also provides discounts on merchandise and select concession items. CELEBRATING SHARED MEMORIES - The Chiefs are giving their fans the opportunity to share their fondest memories on KCChiefs50.com. Fans can submit photos/ thoughts to recap their favorite Chiefs memories. Near the end of the season, the Chiefs will select one fan that shared their story and will host them vs. Indianapolis on Dec. 23. Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt (right) and Stadium Systems Manager Frank Mannino (middle) visit with Linda Hazley, who will be living in one of the fi ve houses the Chiefs helped build. 10 THE LAST TIME Saints 30, Chiefs 20 November 16, 2008 Arrowhead Stadium 74,159 NEW ORLEANS KANSAS CITY KC The Chiefs offense had trouble scoring TDs in the Red Zone, while Kansas City s injury-riddled defense could not slow down the potent New Orleans offense in a loss to the Saints at Arrowhead Stadium. Both teams traded punts to start the game, but when the Saints got their second chance with the ball, the Chiefs defense forced a turnover. S Jarrad Page picked off a QB Drew Brees pass and gave Kansas City possession at the New Orleans 47-yard line. QB Tyler Thigpen drove the offense nine plays to the end zone. RB Larry Johnson took a direct snap to convert a fourth-and-one play and picked up the first down on a four-yard run before Thigpen lofted a ball into the end zone where WR Dwayne Bowe outjumped Saints CB Usama Young for a six-yard TD to give the Chiefs an early 7-0 lead. New Orleans came right back with a 54-yard kickoff return by WR Courtney Roby that set up Brees and the Saints offense at the Chiefs 44-yard line. Nine plays later, the drive stalled and K Garrett Hartley hit a 30-yard FG to cut the Chiefs lead to 7-3. Then Brees led the Saints on a seven-play TD drive. The big play was a third-down throw where Brees beat a Chiefs blitz with a 24-yard gain to uncovered RB Pierre Thomas. Four plays later, RB Deuce McAllister dove over the right side of the offensive line for the TD and the Saints had a 10-7 lead. Thigpen brought the Chiefs right back and drove them to within inches of the end zone. Kansas City challenged a ruling that RB Larry Johnson was stopped short of the goal line, but the call was upheld. The Chiefs settled for a 20-yard K Connor Barth FG to end the 14-play, 78-yard drive that tied the score at New Orleans regained the lead just as the half ended as Brees took the Saints offense on a 12-play, 62-yard drive. Hartley then kicked a 23-yard FG to give the Saints a lead. New Orleans began the third quarter scoring after Kansas City punted on its opening possession of the half. It was just two plays before Brees and WR Lance Moore hooked up on a 47-yard TD throw to give New Orleans a lead. The Chiefs came back and put together a 14-play drive, but once again could not get into the end zone, despite having a first-and-goal at the Saints three-yard line. Barth s 21-yard FG pulled the Chiefs closer, as they trailed But the Saints roared right back down the field and put another TD on the board when Thomas scored on a one-yard run as the Saints surged ahead Kansas City s offense responded with a nine-play, 70-yard drive that finally finished in the end zone. Thigpen and Bowe hooked up for their second TD to make the score After the Chiefs defense forced the Saints to go three-and-out, Thigpen guided Kansas City to the Saints 40-yard line. After an incompletion on thirdand-two, the Chiefs opted to punt, pinning the Saints at their own 12-yard line. This time, Kansas City couldn t stop the Saints as New Orleans was able to add a 35-yard FG by Hartley with 3:28 remaining that gave the Saints a 10-point lead to make the final count GAME NOTES RB Larry Johnson (1,162) bypassed RB Ed Podolak (1,157) for third on the club s career rushing attempts chart.
