8 The Kansas City Chiefs secondary stole the show as the defensive backfield accounted for six interceptions off Oakland QBs Kyle Boller and Carson Palmer en route to a 28-0 blanking of the Raiders. Kansas City s six interceptions tied for the secondmost in team history. It marked the seventh time in Chiefs annals that KC recorded six interceptions off opposing quarterbacks in a single game. The Chiefs offense couldn t get going on its first drive, but the Chiefs defense set the tone early as Lewis intercepted a Boller pass and returned it 59 yards to the end zone to put the Chiefs up 7-0 less than three minutes into the game. Two drives later, CB Brandon Flowers notched the Chiefs second interception off Boller as he picked off a pass at the Chiefs 40-yard line. QB Matt Cassel converted two third-down plays through the air and eventually found WR Dwayne Bowe for 15 yards, getting inside the one-yard line. On the next play, FB Le Ron McClain broke the plane of the goalline, putting the Chiefs up 14-0 with 1:53 left to play in the first quarter. After the teams traded punts, the Chiefs forced another three and out but an illegal hands to the face penalty on Oakland s punt gave the Raiders an automatic first down at their own 10-yard line. As Oakland moved the ball down the field, Boller's pass for Heyward-Bey was intercepted by CB Brandon Carr at the KC 10-yard line. Kansas City took over on the 12-yard line with 0:55 left in the first half. Cassel s hail mary pass was intercepted by S Chinedum Ndukwe at the two-yard line to end the first half. CB Javier Arenas lined up at quarterback in the Wildcat formation and scored from seven yards out, making the score 21-0 with 10:25 left to play in the third quarter. On the Chiefs next drive, Cassel s pass for RB Dexter McCluster was intercepted by CB DeMarcus Van Dyke and returned to the Oakland 22-yard line. On third and nine, Palmer found Heyward-Bey for 21 yards, but two plays later, Flowers grabbed his second interception of the day, this time off Palmer, and returned it 58 yards to the end zone to mark the Chiefs second interception return TD of the day, putting the Chiefs up 28-0 with 14:20 left in the game. 13 THE LAST GAME Chiefs 19, Packers 14 December 18, 2011 Arrowhead Stadium 74,093 GREEN BAY KANSAS CITY Thanks to a gutsy defensive performance against the NFL s best scoring offense and timely offensive conversions, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the previously unbeaten and defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, 19-14, at Arrowhead. QB Kyle Orton completed 23 of 31 passes for 299 yards and six ball carriers combined for 139 rushing yards to lead the offense. The Chiefs took an early 3-0 lead on a 19-yard field goal by K Ryan Succop to cap a 14-play, 69-yard gameopening drive in 6:04. On the ensuing drive, LB Tamba Hali sacked Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers and caused a fumble, marking his 10th sack of the season. Hali finished the day with 3.0 sacks, giving him 53.5 for his career, which moves him into fourth place in team history. Later in the drive, Packers K Mason Crosby missed a 54-yard field goal attempt wide right to keep the score at 3-0 in the Chiefs favor. Succop added a 32-yard field goal with 0:11 left in the first quarter to increase the lead to 6-0. The scoring drive covered nine plays and 42 yards in 3:58. The Chiefs later drove down to the Green Bay threeyard line, but were stopped when RB Jackie Battle was held up on fourth down with 3:28 left in the first half. Both defenses held throughout the second quarter as the score remained 6-0 at halftime. On the first drive of the second half, LB Derrick Johnson stuffed FB John Kuhn on third and one to force a punt. Green Bay took a 7-6 lead on a two-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to WR Donald Driver with 8:04 left in the third quarter. The scoring drive lasted six plays and covered 54 yards in 2:21. On the following drive, Succop connected on his third field goal of the game from 46 yards to regain the lead at 9-7, capping a seven-play, 61-yard drive in 4:19. The big play on the scoring march was a 39-yard pass from Orton to TE Leonard Pope. As the team s headed to the fourth quarter, the lead remained 9-7, marking the first time in 2011 that the Packers trailed going into the final quarter. Just 11 seconds into the fourth, the Chiefs defense held on fourth down. After the Chiefs took over on downs, Orton connected with WR Steve Breaston on a 16-yard pass and FB Le Ron McClain rushed for nine yards before Orton found Pope on a 33-yard pass down to the Green Bay three-yard line. Succop s fourth field goal of the game came from 20 yards out and increased the lead to For Succop, it was his 21st-consecutive made field goal, tying for the second-longest streak in franchise history. On the following possession, the Chiefs defense again held, led by DL Allen Bailey s first career sack and a crucial run stuff for no gain by DE Wallace Gilberry. Following the punt, Orton led the Chiefs on the game-clinching eight-play, 66-yard touchdown drive in 3:27, culminating with a one-yard scoring plunge by Battle. Breaston began the drive with a 25-yard run and Orton hooked up with WR Dwayne Bowe on a 13-yard pass and found TE Anthony Becht for 16 yards down to the five-yard line. Rodgers promptly led Green Bay down the field on a nine-play, 80-yard scoring march in 2:49, finishing it off with his own eight-yard touchdown scramble. After the Packers onside kick went out of bounds, RBs Thomas Jones and Battle rushed for first downs to run out the clock, marking the first time that Green Bay has lost in nearly a calendar year.
