8 THE LAST TIME Chiefs 10, Broncos 6 December 5, 2010 Arrowhead Stadium 67,267 DENVER KANSAS CITY The Chiefs moved to 6-0 at the New Arrowhead, registering a 10-6 victory vs. Denver. The Chiefs defense limited Denver to 86 net passing yards and held the Broncos to three of 12 (25.0%) on third downs, permitting only 247 yards of total offense. The Chiefs held Denver to just six points, the fewest permitted against the Broncos since '71. KC posted 359 yards of total offense and dominated time of possession (37:14 to 22:46). Denver won the toss and elected to receive. Kansas City's defense set the tone with a key stop in its own territory when S Eric Berry broke up a deep third-down pass ending Denver's scoring threat. KC regained possession following Denver s second punt of the afternoon. Kansas City moved into Broncos territory when QB Matt Cassel connected with WR Dexter McCluster for a 19-yard pickup to Denver s 34-yard line. Three plays later Cassel hit RB Thomas Jones, who scampered 20 yards to the Broncos five-yard line. Cassel then fired a pass to the back of the end zone to TE Leonard Pope for a two-yard TD capping an 11-play, 70-yard drive giving Kansas City an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Five straight runs by RB Knowshon Moreno moved the Broncos to their own 42. On third and 12 from Denver s 40, Orton connected with WR Eric Decker for 28 yards to the Chiefs 32. A 17-yard run by Moreno put Denver at Kansas City s 15. The Chiefs defense solidified in the Red Zone, holding Denver to a 25-yard FG by K Matt Prater that cut the Chiefs lead to 7-3. The Chiefs offense took over at their own 27-yard line with 1:14 on the clock before half. In the twominute offense, Cassel connected with TE Tony Moeaki twice on the drive for 11 and then 14 yards setting up K Ryan Succop's 47-yard FG with 0:07 before half that gave KC a 10-3 lead at intermission. The Chiefs put together a 14-play drive to begin the second half. On second and goal from the two-yard line Charles punched it in, however an illegal formation penalty nullified the TD. On fourth and goal from the two-yard line Cassel was sacked by LB Mario Haggan, turning the ball over on downs. Following another Denver punt, Charles rushed 14 yards into Denver territory, but two plays later McCluster was hit by DT Justin Bannan and lost the football. The fumble was picked up by Denver s Haggan at the Broncos 32. Moreno then rumbled 22 yards to Kansas City s 27. Once again, the Chiefs defense held in the Red Zone, as KC forced a 41-yard field goal by Prater, cutting Kansas City s lead to 10-6 with 13:47 to play in the contest. After a Kansas City punt the Broncos took over at their own 34. On third and five from the KC 48 Moreno sprung free up the middle for a 24-yard gain. Two plays later Hali sacked Orton causing a fumble. Hali pounced on it, giving the Chiefs offense the ball at their own 37-yard line. Kansas City however was unable to capitalize on the turnover and was forced to punt. With 2:32 remaining the Chiefs defense held strong, forcing Denver to punt. Charles slowly chipped away at Denver s defense and was able to pick up a first down. Kansas City was forced to punt with 0:20 on the game clock. P Dustin Colquitt boomed a 59 yarder that was downed at the eight-yard line. Orton s final desperation pass intended for WR Eddie Royal fell incomplete as the game clock expired, preserving the Chiefs 10-6 win. GAME NOTES The Chiefs allowed six points, the the lowest point total the club has ever permitted at Arrowhead against the Broncos. Denver's nine completions were the fewest permitted by the Chiefs since allowing seven vs. Oakland (9/20/09). KC Pope, 2-yard pass from Cassel (Succop kick) (11-70, 6:29). 13 THE LAST GAME Dolphins 31, Chiefs 3 November 6, 2011 Arrowhead Stadium 72,263 MIAMI KANSAS CITY Led by three QB Matt Moore touchdown passes, the Miami Dolphins reeled off 31 unanswered points to defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-3 at Arrowhead Stadium. After receiving the opening kickoff, the Chiefs drove down the field and took a 3-0 lead on a 43-yard field goal by K Ryan Succop. The 14-play drive covered 53 yards in 7:49. QB Matt Cassel connected with WR Dwayne Bowe for 15 yards on third and eight to keep the drive moving. Both teams punted on their next drives and Miami answered Kansas City's early score when Moore found WR Brandon Marshall for 20 yards and connected with RB Reggie Bush for 18 yards to the KC three-yard line. On the next play, Moore hit TE Anthony Fasano for a three-yard touchdown with 0:46 left in the first quarter. The scoring drive covered 47 yards on six plays in 2:53. After a Chiefs punt, Miami wasted little time extending its lead as Moore connected with RB Charles Clay for 21 yards and 22 yards on back-to-back passes. On the following play, Moore found Fasano for a second touchdown on a 35-yard pass with 9:41 left in the first half to cap a three-play, 78-yard drive that took only 1:39. The score put Miami on top For Fasano, it marked his second-career multi-touchdown game. His first came on Dec. 21, 2008 at Arrowhead Stadium. Miami carried the 14-3 advantage into halftime and received the opening kick of the second half. After both teams punted on their opening drives of the half, Bush hauled in a 27-yard reception to set up Moore's third touchdown pass of the day, this time a 14-yard strike to Marshall with 8:38 remaining in the third quarter. The scoring drive lasted only four plays and covered 61 yards in 1:17. Following the Miami score, the Chiefs went three and out and punted the ball back to the Dolphins. Bush scampered 18 yards to the KC 28-yard line on first down and followed that up with a 28-yard end-around touchdown run with 6:41 left in the third to push Miami s lead to The two-play scoring drive covered 46 yards in 0:52. K Dan Carpenter capped a 12-play, 73-yard drive that ate 6:49 off the clock by booting a 42-yard field goal with 8:08 left in the game, making the score Moore finished 17 of 23 passing for 244 yards to go with his three touchdown passes.
