13 THE LAST GAME Raiders 16, Chiefs 13 OT December 24, 2011 Arrowhead Stadium 70,803 OAKLAND KANSAS CITY In a close AFC West battle, the Kansas City Chiefs fell in overtime to the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium. K Sebastian Janikowski made a 36-yard field goal in the extra period to give the Raiders the win. The Chiefs had previously tied the game on a touchdown pass from QB Kyle Orton to WR Dwayne Bowe with 1:02 left in regulation. On the first offensive play of overtime, QB Carson Palmer found WR Darrius Heyward-Bey on a 53-yard completion that set up Janikowski s field goal. Oakland took an early 3-0 lead on a 28-yard field goal by Janikowski. The score was set up by a 91-yard return from CB Bryan McCann on the game s opening kickoff. The Chiefs defense allowed just four yards on the subsequent three plays. RB Thomas Jones broke free for a 22-yard run before the offense stalled and P Dustin Colquitt booted a 54-yard punt that was downed at the Oakland three-yard line. On the ensuing possession, LB Derrick Johnson intercepted a Palmer pass and returned it 17 yards to the Oakland 36-yard line. DL Allen Bailey and LB Tamba Hali pressured Palmer on the pass. K Ryan Succop tied the score at 3-3 with a 23-yard field goal, his 22nd-consecutive made field goal, which tied a franchise record previously set by K Pete Stoyanovich in ' The scoring drive covered nine plays and 31 yards in 4:58. Janikowski s 58-yard field goal attempt hit the crossbar and bounced back with 6:33 left in the first half, keeping the scored tied. With 2:51 remaining in the second quarter, Orton was intercepted by S Matt Giordano three yards deep in the end zone, and he then returned the pick 62 yards to the Kansas City 41-yard line. Three plays later, CB Javier Arenas picked off a Palmer pass right before the two-minute warning. Succop s 49-yard FG attempt on the final play of the first half was blocked, leaving the score deadlocked. Palmer connected with WR Denarius Moore on a 61-yard touchdown pass with 8:52 left in the third quarter to pull Oakland ahead The scoring drive covered seven plays and 79 yards in 3:55. Succop cut the lead to 10-6 with a 20-yard field goal with 3:30 left in the third quarter. The Chiefs drove 78 yards on nine plays in 5:22. The big play came when Orton found WR Terrance Copper on a 43-yard pass down the middle of the field. On the first drive of the fourth quarter, Orton was intercepted by Stanford Routt at the Oakland 23-yard line. The Raiders stopped the Chiefs on fourth-and-1 at the Kansas City 43-yard line to stall a drive with under eight minutes left in the game. Janikowski increased the lead to 13-6 with a 31-yard field goal with 2:57 left in regulation. The drive lasted eight plays in 30 yards in 4:48. On the ensuing drive, Orton drove the Chiefs down the field to tie the score at with 1:02 left in regulation on a three-yard touchdown pass Bowe, marking Orton s first TD pass as a member of the Chiefs. One play earlier, Orton found RB Dexter McCluster on a 49-yard screen pass down to the Oakland three-yard line. Following a three-and-out by the Chiefs defense, Orton completed a 25-yard pass to Bowe and then an 11-yard pass to Copper down to the Raiders 31-yard line, setting up a field goal attempt on the last play of regulation. Succop s 49-yard field goal attempt was then blocked, forcing overtime. After Palmer connected with Heyward-Bey on the first play of the extra period, RB Michael Bush ran twice before Janikowski came on to score the game s deciding points.
