8 THE LAST TIME Packers 33, Chiefs 22 November 11, 2007 Arrowhead Stadium 78,988 GREEN BAY KANSAS CITY What began as a defensive slugfest between the Chiefs and Packers turned into a fourth-quarter shootout at Arrowhead. Trailing 13-7 after three quarters, the Chiefs didn t have enough answers to match Packers QB Brett Favre as both teams combined for 35 fourth-quarter points with Green Bay winning a wild decision. Favre checked the final team off of his win list joining QBs Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as the only other signal callers to defeat all 31 other NFL franchises by throwing for 360 yards and two TDs on the afternoon. Green Bay mounted a 6-0 lead thanks to a pair of K Mason Crosby field goals in the second quarter. CB Benny Sapp made the Chiefs first big play, intercepting Favre and returning it to the Green Bay 30-yard line just before halftime. A pass interference penalty in the end zone set up a one-yard TD dive from RB Larry Johnson. Despite being outgained 181 to 62 in total yards, the Chiefs held an improbable 7-6 lead at halftime. Green Bay took a 13-7 lead in the third quarter when LB A.J. Hawk intercepted QB Damon Huard to set up a 13-yard TD pass from Favre to WR Greg Jennings. That TD sparked the Chiefs as they answered with their first prolonged drive. Huard first completed a pair of passes to TE Tony Gonzalez. Then Huard slipped a screen pass out to Johnson, who turned it into a 30-yard TD as the Chiefs took a lead. Not to be outdone, Favre hit WR Donald Driver on an incredible 44-yard pass on the very next play, moving the Packers down to the KC 16-yard line. The Chiefs relinquished just a 32-yard field goal as the Packers regained a lead with under 9:00 left. The Chiefs would bounce right back with a sixplay, 82-yard scoring march. Johnson got the drive jump-started with 19 yards on the first two plays, but suffered a right foot injury on the second play forcing him to the leave the game. A 25-yard defensive pass interference call on CB Charles Woodson would move Kansas City to the GB 17-yard line. From there Huard whizzed a TD pass to Gonzalez, giving the Chiefs a lead. RB Priest Holmes would convert the twopoint conversion on a dive over the pile to push the lead to with 5:18 remaining. That was too much time for Favre. Three straight short completions gave way to a 60-yard touchdown bomb to Jennings, who ran untouched through the Chiefs secondary. The sixth lead change of the game gave the Packers a advantage that they would never relinquish. Kansas City appeared to fire right back when Huard hit WR Jeff Webb down the sideline for a 36-yard gain. However a Packers challenge overturned the completion, ruling that Webb s second foot come down out of bounds. The Chiefs would be forced to punt and gave up another field goal on the ensuing possession. Trailing by four with 1:40 remaining, the stage was set for a comeback drive by Kansas City, but it was not to be. On the third play, Huard was picked off by Woodson near midfield and the interception was returned for the game-clinching touchdown, sealing the Packers win. 13 THE LAST GAME Jets 37, Chiefs 10 December 11, 2011 MetLife Stadium 79,088 KANSAS CITY N.Y. JETS The Chiefs could not stop a balanced N.Y. Jets offensive attack while Kansas City s offense could not get off the ground in a loss at MetLife Stadium. The Jets took the early lead over the Chiefs as QB Mark Sanchez led the Jets on an 11-play, 77-yard scoring drive, with Sanchez putting the ball in the end zone on a one-yard bootleg. The Chiefs were forced to punt on their opening possession but then held the Jets to a three and out on their next possession as well. Kansas City took over at the Jets 41-yard line after the punt. Facing fourth and four, K Ryan Succop connected on a 53-yard field goal to make the score 7-3 with 4:36 left to play in the first quarter. The field goal marked Succop s 17th-consecutive made field goal to put him fourth all time in Chiefs history for most consecutive field goals made. The Jets were moving the ball as Sanchez found FB Josh Baker for 17 yards and then hit TE Dustin Keller for 11 yards on third and five. CB Javier Arenas recorded his fourth-career sack and his first of the season as he dropped Sanchez for a six-yard loss on third and five. The two teams traded punts and on the Chiefs next possession, QB Tyler Palko s third-and-11 pass was intercepted by S Jim Leonhard at the KC 38-yard line. Sanchez s first down screen pass to RB Shonn Greene went for 36 yards to the Chiefs two-yard line. Sanchez found WR Santonio Holmes for a four-yard TD to put the Jets up 14-3 with 10:02 left in the first half. After a Chiefs punt, Sanchez hit Tomlinson out of the backfield for a 31-yard gain on third and eight to the Chiefs 13-yard line. It appeared S Reshard Langford forced a fumble on a Greene rush that was recovered by CB Brandon Flowers, but the play was overturned. On the next play, Greene found the end zone from seven yards out to put N.Y. up 21-3 with 3:56 left in the first half. The Chiefs went three and out on the next drive with the Jets sacking Palko for an eight-yard loss on third and eight. WR Jeremy Kerley returned the punt 26 yards to the Kansas City 35-yard line. They Jets wasted little time getting back up on the scoreboard as Tomlinson caught a 19-yard pass from Sanchez and ran into the end zone to push the score to 28-3 with 1:15 left to play in the opening half. The two teams traded punts to open the second half. After a Chiefs punt, the Jets took over on their own 10-yard line. The Chiefs were called for five penalties on the drive. New York covered 90 yards in six plays and Sanchez recorded his second rushing touchdown of the day, this time from three yards out, to put the Jets up 35-3 with 4:06 left to play in the third quarter. The Chiefs put a touchdown on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter as Palko found WR Jerheme Urban for a 24-yard scoring strike, making the score with 12:58 left to play in the game. The scoring drive covered 65 yards on nine plays. After an unsuccessful onside kick, the Chiefs forced the Jets into fourth and four. LB Tamba Hali recorded his ninth sack of the season and stripped Sanchez of the ball. LB Derrick Johnson recovered the ball at the KC 45-yard line. After the turnover, Palko hit Battle for 24 yards out of the backfield and then found WR Jon Baldwin for 18 yards. Facing fourth and 10, WR Dwayne Bowe could not come down in the back of the end zone with control of the ball, giving the Jets possession at their own 13. After a Jets punt was downed at the one, Battle was tackled in the end zone for a safety, making the score in favor of the Jets with 3:37 left in the game.
