1 Sidewinders Parent Document Coaching philosophy You join a club team so your son can get the best instruction and improve his game. Sidewinders Lacrosse Club has mature, experienced lacrosse educators - men who not only have played the game but more importantly have years of experience teaching it. Our coaches bring with them; knowledge, patience, and dedication! Character Team sports teach our boys a lot of important lessons that will benefit them later in life. Sidewinders Lacrosse Club is concerned with developing young men with character. Of course we want to win games, and we ll work hard to achieve that goal - but we ll make sure the boys understand there is a right and wrong way to do it, and more importantly we ll achieve it as a team! Season Goals: Each Player needs to set personal goals for themselves o Most importantly players must practice on their own to achieve their goals! Position and Player Development Individual Skills Enhancement Situational and play development -Players must ask questions and talk with the coaching staff Better understanding of the game rules, positioning, and travel lacrosse Sportsmanship! Sportsmanship! Sportsmanship! HAVE FUN! Playing time Equal playing time is NOT a pre-requisite of playing for Sidewinders. We fully understand the financial commitment each player is making and in return, Sidewinders commits to providing coaching, facilities, administration, and communication to each and every player to help them get better and improve as players. We encourage each

2 Parents player to work hard during and after practices to demonstrate he should be one the players on the field. Your son should embrace instruction, criticism, and praise from our coaching staff. Please help our coaches help your son by re-enforcing what the coaches want your son to do. Contradicting the coaches will only cause confusion for your son. If you should have a concern, please seek out one of the coaches. However, please DO NOT approach them after a game or tournament. We have found it best to have parent coach discussions when the emotion of the game has settled. Again, encourage your son to speak to his coaches, but if you really want to speak with the coach, please or call him a day or two later when calmer heads prevail. If and only if it is not resolved at the player coach level or the parent coach level; please escalate via to the commissioner to resolve brussell@sidewinderslax.com; as verbal communications will not be addressed. However, please do not contact the commissioner about playing time; you will be referred back to the coach.. Players We believe in the player/coach relationship. So, if your son has a question, we encourage your son to speak with the coaches directly. Practice Practices are not only a great opportunity for individual skill development, but also for team development. Our young men will grow as players by learning to work well with their teammates and developing a sense for what works in a group setting. Lacrosse is a team sport, and practicing together is important - please do your best to attend all practices and if you must miss please communicate with your coaches! At the same time, let s also not forget that lacrosse requires a lot of individual skill, so hitting the wall, playing catch, or just having the stick in your hand in between practices should be strongly encouraged. 3 Sideline Coaching (Games/Tournaments): No coaching from the side lines, only encouragement/cheering on! Reasons not to coach from the sideline:- -Causes confusion -Directs players attention from coaches/field -Can be misinterpreted -Can change game and/or play plan from coaching staff Sideline Protocol All Parents are required to be on the opposite side of the field from the players and coaches. We encourage you to support your sons and the team. However, please refrain from coaching your son from the sideline. The coaches have worked with these boys over several weeks including practices, scrimmages and games. With this comes instruction on where they should be on the field and what they should be doing. Please let our coaches coach.

4 Team Rules: Sidewinders Comes First!!!! o Sidewinders Games takes priority over Rec. Games and Practices o Rec games will be allowed over Sidewinders Practice, parents/players must notify coaches in advance o Sidewinders practice over Rec. practice players must make a minimum of one Sidewinders practice weekly! Please discuss your practice conflicts, coach s discretion if both practices are missed! Come to practice dressed and ready to go.. dressed means with your Sidewinders Practice Pinnie! Sidewinders uniforms for all games helmet/ shooter/ shorts/ socks o Uniforms are only to be worn to games and/or promotional events, not practice! o Do not write names on exterior of equipment and bags Bag tags will be provided New Bags have a 5 year warranty, if you see an issue please bring to the attention to admin@sidewinderslax.com will coordinate repair and/or replacement o Take care of the uniforms, wash frequently per the instructions: Uniforms are made of 100% Polyester Machine Wash Cold with Like Colors Tumble dry low or Hang to Dry DO NOT Dry Clean DO NOT Iron o Helmet Decals: these are a part of the uniform, please do not alter and/or remove for any reason, if either occurs you will be charged $40 for a replacement! o Uniform Sizing: We provided multiple opportunities for fittings, if a uniform does not fit, there will be a replacement charge for each piece! Mouth Pieces must be in at all times Cups, we will not check! Parental responsibility/decision! We run everywhere, No Walking We take a knee, we do not sit The following will not be tolerated: Horse play, Inattentiveness, Excessive Talking, Not Paying Attention! -Consequence, running laps, sprints, removed from practice, sat out for next game! Coach s discretion!
