Team Player COMMENT: The All-Los Angeles City High School Team for 1939 has no apparent weakness, for it is a high-scoring machine and carries an abundance of defensive strength. Proof that the squad has unusual offensive power is the fact that its five players, together, ( based on their past season performances ) would be able to amass a total of better than 68 points PER GAME! Lindsley is the scoring sensation, having chalked up 306 points this year. He tallied 45 pts. against Verdugo Hills, and accounted for 33 and 28 points in other games. Lindsley would be given plenty of support in the basket shooting division from Jack Tweedie end George Metkovich, a pair of sharp-shooting eces. Seminoff, at guard, is a brilliant player both on offense and defense, He is, perhaps, the standout player ( all-around ability ) of the City- League Basketball season of 1939, Oliver is an exceptional defensive man, is alert, aggressive, and noted for his splendid TEAM play. * * * * AIL-LOS ANGELES CITY HIGH SCHOOL S E C O N D T E A M POS. COMMENT: The All-Western League Team is a strengthy unit, for it possesses unusual scoring power, speed end a strong defense. Thompson, Rohrer and Staples make up a high-scoring trio, while Fryer and Oliver are not far behind in their ability to toss baskets. The All-Western is blessed with a couple of guards, Staples and Oliver, who rank with the best that the Western League has produced in several years. **** *LL-WESTERN LEi^GUE SECOND TEAM ALL-WESTERN LEAGUE FIRST TEHM, l F JACK GARLAND.... COMMENT: The All-Southern League unit has an abundance of scoring power, and would give an opponent squad no end of trouble in that connection. The All-Southern also has several defensive strongholds in the forms of Metkovich, Hirsch and Flynn. Hirsch* an outstanding Forward, has been shifted to a guard post because of his defensive ability which was noted by a number of Southern League mentors. Rock, an agile 155 pounder who tosses baskets left-handed, is a hard man to halt within the foul-line. Chenard is always a scoring threat.
