A true teacher both on and off the court, Perretta strives to have a positive influence on his student-athletes not only as basketball players, but also as people. In his 23-year career on the Main Line, Perretta has tallied a career record of His 400 wins rank him 29th on the winningest active collegiate coaching list. Perretta reached the 400-win milestone on Saturday, Dec. 2 with a win over visiting Temple. Last season, Perretta led an inexperienced and injury riddled team to a overall record and a berth in the WNIT where they lost to Michigan State in the first round. Perretta attended Lycoming College after earning All-Catholic League honors at Monsignor Bonner High School in Upper Darby, Pa. His playing career was cut short, however, by an ankle injury during his freshman year at Lycoming. Perretta spent the remainder of his college years assisting Lycoming s varsity and junior varsity programs as a coach, and he also aided the women s program. He received his bachelor s degree in social studies and a secondary teaching certificate in In 1995, he earned his Master s degree in Education from Villanova. WEST VIRGINIA PROBABLE STARTERS POS. F 5 Marlo Thomas (6-1, Sr.) HEAD COACH ALEXIS BASIL West Virginia native Alexis Basil was named West Virginia University's fifth women's basketball coach in May, Basil, one of the school's all-time basketball greats, assumed the head position after the departure of Susan Walvius to South Carolina. Basil was an assistant coach during Walvius' two years in Morgantown. Last year in her third season, Basil produced a 6-22 record. Two years ago, she garnered a overall record and produced a rookie season mark. Basil currently owns a career record. Basil began her coaching career at WVU in 1992 as a graduate assistant on the school's 26-4 squad that advanced to the NCAA "Sweet 16" and finished ranked No. 11 in the nation. A year later, Basil was promoted to assistant coach on Scott Harrelson's staff. As an assistant, Basil was involved in recruiting, marketing, scheduling, travel and coaching the post players. In her first season as head coach at WVU, Basil generated a record, including a dramatic win over Seton Hall in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament. As a player, She also holds school marks in single-game field goal percentage (91.7) and career three-point field goal percentage (37.2). 3 WILDCATS WIN PNCCLASSIC: Villanova returned from a 17-day layoff to capture the 2000 PNC Wildcat Classic held at The Pavilion on Dec In the first round, the Wildcats defeated Bucknell, 89-54, before beating Howard, 91-71, in the tournament s championship game. With the two victories, Villanova now owns a 21-9 all-time record in tournament games played at home. The Wildcats have won their tournament seven of the 15 years that they have been a tournament host.. FOUR-STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS: By winning the PNC Wildcat Classic last weekend, Villanova has now won four-straight in-season tournaments dating back to the season. Last year, the Wildcats won both the 1999 University of Nevada-Reno Danka Classic and the 1999 PNC Wildcat Christmas Classic. This season, Villanova captured the 2000 Florida International University Thanksgiving Tournament and the 2000 PNC Wildcats Christmas Classic. Villanova currently owns a all-time mark (.635) when playing in-season tournaments. BARNES EARNS MVP: Villanova senior center Brandi Barnes garnered MVP honors at last weekend s PNC Wildcat Classic. This is the secondstraight year that Barnes was named the tournament s MVP. In the first round versus Bucknell, Barnes connected on 7-of-14 from the field for a game-high 20 points to go with 11 rebounds and two blocks. This was her second consecutive 20 point, 11 rebound performance, as she also tallied these numbers against Pennsylvania on Dec. 12. In the championship game against Howard, Barnes was 4-of-8 from the field for nine points to go with six rebounds, one assist and a block. In the two games, Barnes scored 29 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and shot 11-of-22 (50 percent) from the field. MIX MAKES: Freshman forward Courtney Mix continues to excel for the Wildcats. In last weekend s PNC Classic, Mix was one of the team s top performers. In the first round against Bucknell, Mix was 6-of-7 from the field, including a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range for a career-high 18 points. She also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Against Howard in the tournament title game, Mix was 3-of-4 from the feld, 1-for- 1 from three-point range and 5-of-5 from the free throw line for 12 points to go with five rebounds and three assists. For her efforts in the tournament where she was 9-of-11 from the field (5-of-5 from three-point range) for 30 points to go with nine rebounds, six assists and a steal, Mix was named to the All-Tournament Team. MIX EARNS BIG EAST HONOR: For her efforts in the PNC Wildcat Classic last weekend, freshman forward Courtney Mix was named the Big East Conference Rookie of the Week. In the two-game tournament, Mix recorded 30 points, nine rebounds, six assists and a steal and shot 9-of-11 from the field, including a perfcet 5-of-5 from behind the arc. For the year, Mix is averaging 6.1 ppg., 4.9 rpg, 1.5 apg., and 1.3 spg. RILEY GAINSRECOGNITION: Joining MVP Brandi Barnes and freshman forward Courtney Mix on the all-tournament team at the PNC Wildcat Classic was junior guard Mimi Riley. Against Bucknell in the first round, Riley registered nine points (3-of-5 shooting), six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while in the championship game against Howard, she recorded 15 points (6-of-10 shooting), three rebounds, three assists and a steal. LEADING THE WAY: After 11 games, Villanova is being led in both scoring and reboudning by senior center Brandi Barnes who is averaging 12.8 ppg., and 6.3 rpg. From the field, Barnes is shooting 60-of-124 for 48.4 percent.. She is also second on the team in block shots with eight. SCORING THE BALL: In the last four games leading up to the PNC Wildcat Classic, Villanova was averaging just 53.2 points per contest. The Wildcats broke out of their scoring slump in the PNC Wildcat Classic last weekend by scoring 89 against Bucknell and 91 versus Howard for a twogame total of 180 points. For the year, the Wildcats are averaging 66.0 ppg., and are giving up 59.3 ppg. TEAM BASKETBALL: Besides playing productive basketball in the PNC Wildcat Classic, Villanova also played very unselfishly. In the tournament, Villanova made 65 field goals (31 vs. Bucknell/ 34 vs. Howard) and they had an assist on 49 of the baskets (23 vs. Bucknell/ 26 vs. Howard). For the year, the Wildcats have assists on 196 of their 259 field goals. MOUNTAINEER KILLER: As a sophomore in , Wildcat guard Lauren Pellicane had two of the best games of her sophomore season against West Virginia. In the first meeting at Morgantown, Pellicane made 7-of-10 field goals and 6-of-9 from three-point range en route to a career-high 24 points in a Wildcat win. In the game at Villanova, Pellicane was 5- of-10 from the field and 4-of-9 from behind the arc for 19 points. In the two games combined, Pellicane was 12-of-20 from the field and 10-of-18 from three-point range and scored a total of 43 points. Last year, Pellicane did not play against West Virginia due to a knee injury. RUNNINGTHE SHOW: One of the key contributors to the Wildcat squad is junior point guard Mimi Riley. After 11 games, Riley has been filling up the stat sheet on a consistent basis. Entering the West Virginia game on Jan. 3, Riley leads the team in both assists (5.3 apg) and is second in rebounds (5.0 rpg) and third on the team in scoring with a 9.8 ppg. She has also been very good at the foul line where she has connected on 34-of-44 for 77.3 percent. REGAINING HER FORM: After suffering through a four-game shooting slump when she made just 3-of-21 (14.2 percent) from the field and 2-of- 14 (14.2 percent) from three-point range, sophomore guard Trish Juhline came up big in Villanova s last game against Howard. In the win, Juhline was 8-of-12 from the field and 1-of-3 from three-point range to tie her season-high with 20 points. Juhline also tied her career-high with six assists. For the year, Juhline is second on the team in scoring with a 10.6 ppg average and she leads the team in three-point field goals made by connecting on 24-of-65 for 36.9 percent. DAVIS SCORES DOUBLE FIGURES: Sophomore forward Katie Davis recorded a strong perfromance in Villanova s win over Howard in the championship game of the PNC Wildcat Classic. In 22 minutes of action, Davis scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting (3-of-4 from three-point range) and had five assists, four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. For the year, Davis is averaging 8.7 ppg., 3.5 rpg., and 2.9 apg.

4 FROMDOWNTOWN: Villanova has made a habit of shooting the threepoint shot this year. After 11 games, the Wildcats are 79-of-244 (32.4 percent) from three-point land, while their opponents are just 24-of-104 for 23.1 percent. When you look at it in points, Villanova has outscored its opposition by 165 points at The Wildcats are currently averaging 22.1 three-point field goal attempts, while they are making an average of 7.1 triples per contest. Against Bucknell on Dec. 29, Villanova made a seasonhigh 11 triples. VILLANOVA PICKED SEVENTH: In the Big East Conference preseason Coaches poll, Villanova was chosen to finish seventh in the 14-member Big East Conference. In the tournament opener versus Bucknell, Stewart played three minutes and had one point. In the championship game against Howard, she played three minutes and tallied two rebounds and an assist. A native of Maroochydore, QLD, Australia, Stewart had a great opportunity to work the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia so she stayed at home down under for the first semester. A fifth-year senior, Stewart will graduate in May with a degree in comprehensive science.
