XAVIER Thursday's game will mark the 6th all-time meeting between Wisconsin and Xavier in a series that dates back to The Badgers own a 3-2 lead in the all-time series, including a win in the only previous meeting in Madison (61-46 on Dec. 2, 2000). Thursday's meeting will serve as a rematch of one of the greatest games of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. In that thriller in St. Louis, UW trailed by nine with 6:00 remaining, but stormed back to pull off a win in the second round of the Big Dance. Bronson Koenig hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the final 14 seconds -- including the second of which came on a fadeaway 3 from the corner at the final buzzer -- to escape with the win. A total of 4 current Badgers appeared in the 2016 meeting with Xavier. Trailing with 6:00 remaining, Wisconsin closed the game by scoring 17 of the final 22 points to pull off a win. UW s comeback included back-to-back 3-pointers from junior Bronson Koenig in the final 14 seconds, the second of which came as time expired. After Koenig s game-tying triple with 0:14 left, junior Zak Showalter took a charge at the defensive end, returning the ball to the Badgers and setting up Koenig s heroic buzzer-beater. 5 GAME 3: VS. XAVIER BADGERS DOWN UNDER In August, Wisconsin took a 12-day, 5-game tour of Australia and New Zealand, making stops in Auckland, Rotorua, Melbourne and Sydney. Wisconsin went 4-1 on the trip, playing 4 games against teams from the top professional league (National Basketball League) and another against professional team Hawthorn Magic. A er assuming the head coaching reins on Dec. 15, 2015, Gard will begin his third season as the head coach of the Badgers in on the heels of leading the team to the Sweet 16 in each of his first two seasons at the helm. A er ini ally taking over on an interim basis, Gard was officially named head coach of the Badgers on March 7, In two seasons, he has piloted the Badgers to a record of (.700), owning the second-best 60-game start in program history.
