1 TOM POITRAS Head Coach Fifth Year Career Record: (14) Green Bay Record: (4) COACHING STAFF Under the guidance of fifth-year head coach Tom Poitras, Green Bay men s soccer has seen a revival that has the Phoenix soccer family eager for the 2008 season. For the second straight year, Green Bay appeared in the Horizon League title game under Poitras watch when the Phoenix challenged eventual NCAA Elite Eight participant UIC in the 2007 championship contest. After back-toback 10-win seasons, Poitras and the Phoenix aim once again to challenge for a Horizon League title. Along with a Horizon League runner-up finish in 2007, the defensive-minded Phoenix posted a program-best 12 shutouts and registered a 0.80 goals-against average, which also ranked in the top five in team history. Green Bay has established the importance of solid defense under Poitras tutelage. Since his arrival, Green Bay has tallied a 1.12 GAA in four seasons, including 23 shutouts. In 2006 Green Bay reached multiple milestones in its campaign that culminated in the Horizon League championship match. Along with its best league finish in 12 seasons, the Phoenix had its first NSCAA All-American in 15 years in Joshua Okoampa. The Phoenix also finished the year ninth in the NCAA in goals per game. In the past four years, Green Bay has boasted three All-Americans. Adam Ben-Zikri was a two-time Academic All-American in 2004 and 2005 while Okoampa garnered NCAA Third- Team All-American accolades in For his collegiate coaching career, Poitras owns a record in 14 seasons. He ranks fifth in the NCAA in career winning percentage (.625) among coaches with less than five years at the Division I level. Poitras earned his USSF A coaching licence in 1993 and has served as an Olympic Development Program staff coach both in Region I and Region II and was a USSF Coaches Licensing Program Associate Director in Connecticut. Poitras arrived at Green Bay following a six-year stint at Southern New Hampshire, where he posted an record. Poitras guided the Penmen to four NCAA Division II tournament appearances and five 10-win seasons. During the 2002 season, Poitras directed SNHU to a mark and the NCAA Division II title game and was named the 2002 NSCAA New England Region Coach of the Year. With Poitras, SNHU produced eight All-Americans while the Penmen finished ranked in the top 20 nationally in five straight seasons. Prior to his stint at Southern New Hampshire, Poitras spent four seasons at the University of New Haven, registering a record. Poitras revived UNH s soccer program, lifting the Chargers to back-to-back 10-win seasons after inheriting a squad that posted three wins during his first year. Poitras and New Haven increased its win total each of those four years, culminating with a mark in He was also named the New England Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year in A 1992 graduate of Southern Connecticut State, Poitras was a four-year starter for the Owls, who captured the 1987 NCAA Division II national championship. Poitras also played professionally prior to his coaching career, playing two seasons for the Connecticut Wolves of the Interregional Soccer League. The 40-year-old Poitras and his wife, Alison, reside in Green Bay with their son, Ian, and daughter, Ella. 6

2 COACHING STAFF MIKE KULAS Assistant Coach Second Year Mike Kulas is in his second season as an assistant coach for Green Bay men s soccer. Kulas impact aided the Phoenix in returning to the Horizon League championship game in 2007, as the former collegiate defender helped Green Bay set a team record with 12 shutouts in a season. Kulas arrived at Green Bay after one season as the head coach of Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. Prior to that appointment, Kulas was an assistant coach at University of Hartford and Assumption. I am excited to have Mike joining our staff, said head coach Tom Poitras following Kulas hire in He was a hard-working, driven and competitive player and he will bring those same traits to our program and will help continue to improve Green Bay soccer. As a collegiate standout, Kulas shined as a defender under Poitras watch at Southern New Hampshire. He aided SNHU in posting a record during his three seasons as a starter and was a two-time NCAA Division II tournament participant. He was an integral part of the Penmen defense that tallied 32 shutouts during his career and helped post two of the top 15 consecutive shutout minute streaks in Division II history. The team s 15 shutouts in 2000 is tied for 11th in NCAA records. Kulas gained professional playing experience in 2002 as a member of the New Hampshire Phantoms, where the team placed fourth in the Northern Division. The 27-year-old Kulas earned a degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire in Men s Soccer Support Staff RUDY WADE Strength and Conditioning Through Green Bay Athletics partnership with Bellin Health, Rudy Wade joined Green Bay in September 2004 as the department s full-time strength and conditioning coach. He coordinates strength and conditioning programs for all 16 Phoenix sports, gearing each program toward improving endurance, agility and functional strength through individual training. Wade, a certified strength and conditioning specialist, was an assistant coach at Marquette for one year prior to coming to Green Bay. Previously, he spent two years as a graduate assistant at Bowling Green University, and was an intern at the University of Notre Dame. Wade earned a master s degree in education from Bowling Green after receiving his bachelor s degree in exercise science from Ball State University in He and his wife, Julie, live in Green Bay with their son, Connor. EMILY JOHNSON Athletic Trainer Green Bay native Emily Johnson is in her seventh year as an assistant athletic trainer for Green Bay Athletics. Along with serving as the primary athletic trainer for men s soccer, Johnson also works with women s basketball. A 2001 graduate of Valparaiso University, Johnson earned her National Athletic Trainers Association certification in August, She has a 2002 master s degree from Indiana State University. Johnson serves as an instructor at UW-Green Bay, teaching advanced athletic training and prevention and care of athletic injuries. Johnson and her husband, Jason, reside in Green Bay with their daughter, Maggie. 7

Ziba earned second-team All- A native of Macedonia, Ziba graduated from South Milwaukee High School in JEFF SONNTAG Manager Jeff Sonntag is in his third year as the manager for the Green Bay men s soccer program. Sonntag is responsible for equipment management, assisting with practice and game setup and video coordination as well as other duties as assigned. A junior academically from Janesville, Wis., Sonntag is a double major in history and political science. 16
