President s world Dear BAMQ members, Let me start off by wishing you a Happy Easter is well underway and the tournaments season began with the Jacques-Corneau doubles tournament held in Laval. Your board thanks Bernard Pélissier for the organization of this 4 th edition and congratulates the winning teams in both divisions (Danny Bell and Mathieu Ko in the Open and Guillaume Chouinard and Samuel Richer in the «B»). In the next few weeks some of you will participate in the one-wall Classique Saint-Jean Eudes and/or the 4 walls Québec City singles tournament. After that, maybe the same people and others will go to defend the BAMQ colors for the Canadians Championships in Burlington, Ontario. Here, I point out that we passed a motion in 2014 to help out our players who go out of Québec to compete, whichever category you will be playing in. I also wish to hear your suggestions as we are planning the season very soon. If I see you in Quebec, don't hesitate to let us know what you want your federation to do. If you are unable to attend, please write us your suggestions. Don t hesitate also to make your donation to Placements Sports for this year if is not already done. 2 2. Incoming Events Handball weekend in Quebec City (April 23 rd, 24 th ) The beat goes on. There will be another handball celebration in Quebec City next April. The one-wall St-Jean-Eudes will be held on Saturday 23 rd, and the four-walls at PEPS Université Laval on Saturday 24 th. All the info and registration forms appear on our website: Register now or simply come to see the gamers. Thanks in advance to Donald Côté and Denis Gingras and their teams for this very nice handball weekend Canadian Championships (Burlington, Ontario May 18 th -21 st ) As mentioned in our president s word, the nationals are in sight and will be close enough from home. All the infos are on our website: 5 th annual one-wall Honey-Martin (July 2 nd ) Joe Berthiaume and Mike Griffin are already working for the fifth edition. The most prestigious one-wall tournament in Canada. Again this year, tailgate, handball, friends and so on will by available at Pointe St-Charles (Parc Le Ber). 3 3. After Europe, the American East Coast by André Desbiens They have known each other for more than twenty years. At that time, their common great seriousness and frequent visits to cultural centres engendered their friendship. Sport also contributed to their relationship. The handball champion, Denis Gingras, persuaded André Desbiens to become dizzy between four walls while bursting some veins in his hands and being aware that he has two arms. In return, the regular long trip biker initiated Denis to bicycle touring where one must move a bike that supports forty pounds in luggage. After two trips of about 600 km in 2010 (Charlevoix and Lower St. Lawrence) and 2011 (Vermont and New Hampshire), it was time to test the new biker on a more demanding route. In 2012, Denis turned fifty. In addition to the privilege of receiving a free coffee at some restaurants, this step became an opportunity to cycle 3700 km in Europe. The one-month trip brought the two men from Bordeaux (France) to Trondheim (Norway). They received a very warm welcome in France, especially in the land of Ch'tis. They cycled along the long beaches of Belgium and among the windmills of the Netherlands and the red brick buildings of Germany. They slept in spacious campsites and travelled among thatched-roof houses in Denmark. The trip ended in Norway with stunning landscapes and long days during which the night never managed to settle completely. After shorter trips in 2013 (in the Adirondacks, including the grueling visit from two handball players, Frédéric Genest and Matthieu Ko), in 2014 (Cape Breton and northeastern Nova Scotia) and in 2015 (Ontario and northern New York state), the two partners will face a new challenge in honour of the half-century now reached by André. The expedition will begin in Key West (Florida) in mid-may and the two friends will cycle to their respective home in Lévis. 4 4. John Cammett s profile : the player and the man Over the years, John Cammett has been a great supporter of the Quebec Junior handball program. John is also a true handballer and a champion in our beloved sport. Let s take a closer look at John past to better understand the man behind the handball player. John was born in Detroit, Michigan and is living part time in Montreal and Naples, Florida, when not travelling around the world for his work. In 1993 John was playing squash at the MAA Club in Montreal. After his match he has met with the handball group in the locker room who introduced him to handball. He has never played squash since, devoting his rare free time to handball. But he also plays some tennis, golf, even ran a marathon and goes to the gym with Sylviane. On the professional side John is a real estate investor and developer specializing in facilities for the transportation industries. His best performance in handball has been winning the Worlds 50+ in Portland, Oregon with Danny Bell in 2009 (see picture). The worst nightmare was losing the Worlds Final 50+ after leading 10-3 in the tie-breaker with Danny Bell in Dublin, Ireland 2012 (no picture, you understand why!!!). John considers that handball players are the most generous people he knows. What he has learned from his experiences is success in handball or in life is not measured by wins but the number of friends you make and people you are able to help. In the end he still likes playing Merv Deckert for a smoothie at the LA FIRNESS in Naples! Yes, the good things in life can be very simple. Danny Bell and John Cammett 4

5 5. The lunch time champions at l école St-Jean-Eudes Since September many players are having a lot of fun at lunch time playing handball at l École Saint-Jean-Eudes. We can see the high level of competition during the matches. The yearly tournament in doubles, with handicap, has crowned the champions among the twenty high school players.
