As a new board of Quebec Handball Association, we would like to start this new year with an update on Handball in and outside Quebec. For this reason and in the future, we ll send you a newsletter two or three times a year. We also invite you to go frequently on our website (French and English) and see all the informations and links we have with others provincial and national handball organizations. New board of directors A new board of directors is now in place for Quebec Handball Association. Thanks to Marie Michèle Trudel and Michel Foster of the Four Walls Sports Federation for their constant efforts to help maintain our provincial structure and our sport active, especially with the Quebec Government programs. 1

2 2. New Facebook page Since January 1 st, 2013 we have a new Facebook page for Quebec Handball Association. We invite you to join our group of friends on this page and to introduce our game to your friends and relatives. You ll be able to consult a report on the Bastidas brothers following their visit in Charlesbourg last spring. Visit: /article /Retrospective du mois de juin 2012/1 And also, you ll find the US Northeast region handball schedule of events Canadian Handball Championships Our 2012 national championships have taken place last spring in Brossard, Quebec and have been a very good success. We ve had almost 180 players, including an open champion Paul Brady who also has become the world champion in October in Dublin, Ireland, plus hundreds of spectators during the four days of competition. Congratulations to Bernard Pélissier and his team of volunteers for this tremendous achievement. A very warm thanks to our sponsors and supporters. We invite you to visit our website for all the details on this event Canadian Handball Championships The 2013 nationals will take place in Winnipeg from May 16 th to 19 th. The Quebec Handball Association (BAMQ) has allowed a $1000 budget to support the registration fees of our players from the province of Quebec. This should help cover all or at least a big part of the entry fees for our Quebec representatives World Handball in Ireland The one wall and the four walls world championships have been held in Dublin, Ireland last October. Nine players from Quebec played in this event. Two of them Laurent Couture and Gabriel Gosselin went up three rounds in their category. Also, Danny Bell and John Cammett have made up to the final in the 50 plus category. 3 6. What will happen in Quebec this year We are waiting for the confirmation of the dates and venues for 3 events in the next months. A one wall meeting in Quebec city in April, a four walls meeting in Montreal in April and a one wall meeting in Montreal later this summer. Let us know if you have a club championship where you can invite others players to participate. 7. Aug wall Eastern Regionals tournament at Centennial Park N Membership campaign We would like to renew our annual membership program for our fans and our supporters. For $5.00 per year you confirm your support to our sport and to the volunteers that are doing big efforts to maintain our activities offer. As an active member, you will receive our newsletter and you will be covered by our insurance policy for accidents occurring while playing handball. You can use the membership form included with this newsletter, fill it completely and return it to Quebec Handball association or simply give it to a board member. It is important for us to have your e mail address on file if you have one. This will accelerate our communications and reduce our mailing cost. We also challenge you to recruit a new member or a new supporter. This will help us to have a better recognition for our sport from the Ministry of Sports in Quebec. 3

4 9. Placements Sports funding program The Ministry of Sports has created a new funding program for all amateur sports federations in Quebec. This is called the Placements Sports program. You can contribute to your sport the same way that if it was a charity or a foundation. You will receive an official receipt for you income tax report for any pledge of $25.00 or more. But the most important is that the Government will add 220% of your pledge to our federation. For example: a 100$ donation will generate $220 of government funding. So it is very important for us to get new funding to support our programs (coaching, tournaments, etc.) Donation forms are available on our website and we invite you to generously participate and help publish this new way of funding handball in Quebec.
