1 OSHAWA LAWN B0WLING CLUB NORTHVIEW COMMUNITY CENTRE 150 BEATRICE ST., OSHAWA, ON, ( ) NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2017 OLBC 2017 EXECUTIVE President Raymond Cutts Vice President Marg LeBlanc Secretary..Sharon Costescu Treasure Jennifer Cutts Member at Large Garry Armstrong President s Message As I write this message it is starting to get colder, a sure sign that the season is almost finished. Where did that time go? As the season ends, so does my tenure as President of the club and, officially, I shall be handing over the reins to Marg Leblanc as the incoming President for 2018 at the Fall Meeting to take place on 5 th October. It is a challenge to be President of a club such as this, a challenge that was made much easier by having a really good team around me, and a club full of volunteers that made things run very smoothly this year. We managed to run all tournaments and special jitneys this year without cancelling one and that was a testament to the support of our conveners and volunteers, without which, we would not have a club at all. I thank you all, I really appreciate the help I received and I hope that you will extend your help next year to make Marg Leblanc s tenure as enjoyable as mine was. Some of my special moments for 2017: I got to build a shed with Gerry Dostie and some other volunteers. As well as being a really good grounds keeper, Gerry is pretty good with a hammer and nails too. I got to play in the Gold Cup, what a great day that was. I can see why it is considered one of the most prestigious bowling events in the calendar, and now I have been part of it. I got to wear a pink bow tie for the Ladies Luncheon thanks to Ted Morrison. Talking about the Ladies luncheon, I must mention what a great event that turned out to be this year and I hope it will continue to improve over the years to become a marquee event for the club. I got to meet a bunch of really good people. As most of you will know, I am only a third year bowler and did not know a lot of people at the club until I became President this year. Everyone has been very nice to me and I want you all to know I really appreciated that, your help and advice, on and off the greens was very helpful. A final special thanks to all those members who came out and volunteered their time to make the club a better place for all to enjoy. Have a safe winter and we look forward to seeing you all on the greens in 2018!

CONGRATULATIONS to ALL COMPETITORS Hope you had Fun! Thanks to our many volunteers, coaches, and parents who helped Durham Boys and Girls Club Northview Division Northview Usually there were 11 to 15 campers attending Monday afternoon from 2:45 to 3:45 They came with two counsellors who were a big help. Dates were July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, August 14 and 21. Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School The teacher, Lisa Politano, accompanied 20 Grade 11 and 12 students for two sessions in May. In September she brought 16 Grade 11 and 12 students for two periods to introduce them to our sport. The secondary students enjoyed their sessions and were able to apply their skills well. Opportunities to show these young people what lawn bowling is about helps to publicize our club and the sport in our community. This is only possible because there are a few volunteers who believe it is important. Gerri Dostie was instrumental in having the greens set up for their arrival. Others who helped included Nena Rossi, Jim Knights, Mike Costescu, Chandy Kalampukattu,Garry Armstrong and Pat Sayer. I thank them for their gift of time and knowledge.
