2 THIS IS CATAWBA COLLEGE Catawba College was founded in Newton, North Carolina in 1851 by the German Reformed Church. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution, with the first woman graduate completing her studies in Officials closed the Newton campus in 1923 and moved to its present location in Salisbury, re-opening in In 1957, the Evangelical and Reformed Church merged to form the United Church of Christ, with which the College maintains affiliation. Catawba seeks to serve the Salisbury-Rowan County community through its programs and services. The Roberston College-Community Center, a facility built as a joint venture with the community over 35 years ago, houses the Shuford School of Performing Arts and showcases musical and theatre productions from the college and the community. Similarly, the college s athletic facilities have been enhanced be the local community and are available to the local residents as well as the students. In the more than 75 years since Catawba opened its doors in the Salisbury community, it has built a tradition of successful graduates who continue to honor the College by their achievements and enable it through their support to strengthen with each entering class. These graduates include physicians, attorneys, teachers and college professors, corporate executives, actors and musicians, social workers and others who contribute to our society in a variety of ways. From one building, three-quarters of a century ago in Salisbury, Catawba College today has grown to a campus of 27 buildings on 276 acres, with 189 acres devoted to an outstanding ecological preserve. Almost all of the buildings on campus have undergone renovations in the recent past and two new buildings, the Catawba College Center for the Environment and the Catawba Sports Center are now completed. Over 1,300 students representing over 25 states and several foreign countries attend Catawba. The student body is evenly divided among men and women. 3 PETER BOURQUE Head Coach Peter Bourque is in his 16th season as the head coach of the Catawba lacrosse program. He arrived in June 1993 to build the program from its inception. Along with his coaching duties, Bourque also serves as an Assistant Athletic Director at Catawba. In 2007, Catawba earned a share of the Deep South Conference title. In 2005, the Indians advanced to the DSC Tournament final for the second straight season and posted a school record with ten wins for a season in Bourque has been rewarded for his efforts by being named the Deep South Conference Coach of the Year in both 2000 and In 1999, Bourque was selected to coach in the prestigious USILA North-South All-Star game in Saratoga Springs, NY. He graduated from Guilford College in 1988, where he earned a BS in Sports Management. While at Guilford, Bourque was a four-year athlete, and received the Neuris-English Athletic Leadership Award, recognizing him as one of the outstanding athletes at the school. In 1992, Bourque went on to receive his M.Ed. in School Administration from Lynchburg College, in Virginia, where he was a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society. Bourque was born in Springfield, MA, but was reared in Westfield, NJ. He graduated from Westfield High School and The Gunnery Prep School in Washington, CT. Bourque carries with him much experience, having coached at Greensboro College, Lynchburg College, M.I.T Cambridge, MA, and Guilford. In the summer, Bourque serves as a director for the successful Dixie Top 150 lacrosse camps. During his tenure at Catawba, Bourque is proud to have coached 28 All-Deep South Conference performers. He has also coached six All- Americans and one Academic All-American, the USILA s top award. Bourque has served on several NCAA Division II lacrosse committees and currently holds the post as Division II Regional Director for All- American Selection Committee. Bourque and his wife, Ann, reside in Salisbury. They have three children; Kathlenn Isabel (12), Brendan Peter (11) and Molly Ann (9). ADAM LENT Assistant Coach Adam Lent begins his second season as an assistant coach with the Catawba lacrosse team. He came to Catawba after lettering for four years at Stony Brook University. Lent graduated from Stoney Brook in 2007 with a degree in History. While at Stony Brook, Lent played on defense and as a long stick midfielder. He helped the Seawolves into the USILA top 20 poll over three seasons, including a high of No.14. He helped Smithtown High School to the 2003 Suffolk County Championship. Lent has been a youth lacrosse coach for seven years in Smithtown and was a volunteer at Great Hollow Middle School. He is the director of the Smithtown Recreation Department s lacrosse camp and of the Lights Out Lacrosse camps and clinics. Lent is founder and director of You Gotta Have Heart, a non-profit organization active in the Long Island, NY, area which organizes numerous events that help children with disabilities each year. 1
