The match-up (7:30 a.m. ET) will be broadcast live on NBCSN in the United States, with Mike Doc Emrick providing the play-by-play, two-time Olympian AJ Mleczko serving as the analyst and Pierre McGuire doing the rinkside reporting.three-time Olympian Natalie Darwitz will join the in-studio crew. More information is available at NBCOlympics.com THE XXII OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES: The 2014 Olympic Winter Games are taking place in Sochi, Russia, from Feb The women s ice hockey tournament will be held at Shayba Arena with the medal games taking place at the Bolshoy Ice Dome. Team USA defeated Finland (3-1) and Switzerland (9-0) to clinch a spot in Monday s semifinals. These Games mark the fifth time that women s ice hockey has been included in the Olympics. Team USA garnered the first-ever Olympic gold medal awarded in the sport in 1998 and have subsequently earned silver medals in 2002 and 2010, and bronze in The United States has a (W-OTW-OTL-L) overall record in Olympic competition. Three of the four matchups between the two teams have come in the gold-medal game. Most recently, Canada defeated Team USA, 2-0, in the gold-medal game at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia. Overall, the U.S. holds a record of (W-OTW-OTL- L-T) in 115 contests against Canada. Team USA played Canada seven times during its final preparations for the Olympic Winter Games and posted a record, which included four straight victories prior to coming to Sochi. Additionally, the United States has deafeated Canada in two of the three IIHF Women s World Championship gold-medal games since the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. 2 Game Notes USA vs. Canada Feb. 12, 2014 Page 2 FIRST-TIMERS: Ten players are representing the United States for the first time in the Olympics, including five of the seven defensemen and five of the 11 forwards. OLYMPIANS: Eleven players that are part of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women s Team helped the U.S. capture the silver medal in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, led by Julie Chu, who is making her fourth Olympic appearance. Between them, they have appeared in 66 Olympic Winter Games and won 13 medals (silver-12, bronze-1). MAKING HISTORY: Head Coach Katey Stone is the first female to lead a U.S. Olympic Women s Ice Hockey Team at the Olympic Winter Games. DUGGAN S CAPTAINCY: Meghan Duggan is serving as captain of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women s Ice Hockey Team. She served in the same capacity for the U.S. Women s National Team on the pre-olympic tour. Duggan previously served as captain for the U.S. at the 2011 Four Nations Cup and 2008 Under-22 Series and was also an alternate captain at the 2013 IIHF Women s World Championship and 2012 Four Nations Cup. DOUBLE TROUBLE: Twin sisters Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux have competed together for Team USA in more than 85 games at various levels of competition and are appearing in their second Olympics together. REBOUNDING STRONG: The Bring on the World Tour, which began in October 2013, marked Kelli Stack s first action since suffering a knee injury in December She led the team in scoring during the pre- Olympic tour with 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 10 games. Prior to missing several months due to her injury, she was voted best forward of the 2012 IIHF Women s World Championship. SIBLING SUPPORT: Amanda Kessel and brother Phil are both competing for Team USA at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. DREAMING BIG: Lyndsey Fry is competing not only for herself and her team, but for her best friend and former teammate, Elizabeth Turgeon, who was tragically killed in a car accident in If not for the accident, Turgeon would likely have been considered for a spot on the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team as well. Fry carries Turgeon s Team USA jersey on this journey as inspiration. BLOODLINES: Forward Alex Carpenter is doing one of the few things her father, Bobby, did not during his illustrious career. He never played in the Olympics because NHL players did not begin competing until 1998 during the final year of his 18-year career. STATES: The players that make up the roster of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women s Ice Hockey Team Team hail from 10 different states, led by Massachusetts with five players. Minnesota (three), Wisconsin (three), Illinois (two), North Dakota (two) and Ohio (two) also have multiple players representing their states. COLLEGE: All 21 players on the roster have attended college. Eight different NCAA schools are represented, led by the University of Minnesota (WCHA) with five. Eleven players come from the WCHA, five from the HEA, four from ECACH, and one from the CHA. PATTY PROUD: The current roster includes five players who have won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award (top player in NCAA Division I women s ice hockey). Those players include Amanda Kessel (2013), Brianna Decker (2012), Meghan Duggan (2011), Jessie Vetter (2009) and Julie Chu (2007). During her breakout junior campaign ( ), Kessel helped the Gophers to an unblemished record. She led the NCAA in goals, assists and points and became the fourth player in NCAA history to reach 100 points in a single season. She was also the 24th player in NCAA history to reach 200-career points and only the ninth player to do so in three seasons. CHAMPIONS ALL AROUND: In total, eight players have NCAA titles, led by Jessie Vetter who won three championships with the University of Wisconsin (2006, 2007, 2009). Amanda Kessel, Megan Bozek and Meghan Duggan all won twice. 16 of the 21 players appeared in the Frozen Four and a total of 13 National Championships were won. 200 CLUB: Julie Chu is one of six players in the 200 Club, honoring female players who have played more than 200 games for the U.S. Entering the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Chu has 234 games which is second all-time to Angela Ruggiero (256). BOSTON STRONG: Seven players (Bellamy, Duggan, Knight, Marvin, Schaus, Schleper, Schleper) competed last season for the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women s Hockey League. One player played for the Montreal Stars (Chu). Knight earned the CWHL Most Valuable Player award last season. CAREER MILESTONES: UPCOMING: The following players are just shy of 100 games - Gigi Marvin (99), Kacey Bellamy (97), Meghan Duggan (96), Jocelyne Lamoureux (96). Gigi Marvin needs five assists to hit 50. Monique Lamoureux is one goal shy of 50. Jocelyne Lamoureux needs two points and Brianna Decker needs seven to reach 100. There, Team USA captured the tournament title for the first time since General Manager - Reagan Carey Carey became USA Hockey s director of women s hockey in August Her primary focus is the management of the U.S. Women s National Team Program, including elite development efforts of players and coaches. Carey also serves as general manager for all U.S. women s teams, including the U.S. Women s Olympic Team. Team USA has had significant success under her guidance. The U.S. Women s National Team has won two gold medals (2011, 2013) and a silver medal (2012) at the IIHF s Women s World Championship, and finished first on two occasions ( ), second (2010) and third (2013) once at the Four Nations Cup. As part of USA Hockey s development initiatives, Carey has overseen all aspects of player development camps, tournaments, and team operations at all levels. For the two years prior to joining USA Hockey, Carey was the director of fan development and youth marketing for the NHL s Atlanta Thrashers and NBA s Atlanta Hawks. Carey is a member of the IIHF Women s Committee, serves as an advisor on the Board of Directors for the CWHL and is on the Professional Development Council for the American Women s College Hockey Alliance. A 2001 graduate of Colby College, Carey played four years of collegiate hockey and volleyball. She was the recipient of the 2010 Colby College Carl E. Nelson Sports Achievement Award. Head Coach - Katey Stone Stone, head women s ice hockey coach at Harvard University, is leading the U.S. Women s National Team and will be the first female head coach of the U.S. Olympic Women s Ice Hockey Team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Stone has been involved with the U.S. Women s National Team Program since 2006 and has served as head coach of the U.S. Women s National Team for eight competitions, recently guiding the U.S. to the gold-medal at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Women s World Championship in Ottawa, Ontario. In total, she has been the head coach for three IIHF Women s World Championships (gold- 2011, 2013; silver-2012), five Four Nations Cups (1st-2008, 2011, 2012; 2nd-2010; 3rd-2013) and one IIHF Twelve Nations Invitational Tournament Series (2011). In 2012, Stone guided Team USA to a silver medal at the IIHF Women s World Championship in Burlington, Vt., and helped the team capture the Four Nations Cup title in Vantaa and Kerava, Finland. Under Stone s leadership, the U.S. Women s National Team enjoyed a highly successful season in 2011, earning gold medals at the IIHF Women s World Championship in Zurich, Switzerland, and the Four Nations Cup in Nykoping, Sweden, as well as the inaugural championship at the IIHF Twelve Nations Invitational Tournament Series in Vierumaki, Finland, where the U.S. went undefeated in six games. In 2010, Stone led the U.S. to a secondplace finish at the Four Nations Cup in St. Johns, N.L., Stone also served as the head coach of the U.S. Women s National Team at the 2008 Women s In addition, Stone led the U.S. to the gold medal at the first-ever IIHF Under-18 Women s World Championship in January 2008, and also coached the U.S. Women s National Under-18 Team at the 2007 Under-18 Series against Canada and the U.S. Women s Under-22 Select Team at the 2006 Under-22 Series against Canada. Along with her accomplishments on the international stage, Stone is the all-time wins leader in women s college hockey. She completed her 19th season behind the Harvard bench in and has led the Crimson to a (.690) record, which included the 1999 American Women s Collegiate Hockey Alliance national championship, three straight appearances in the NCAA championship game (2003, 2004, 2005), nine NCAA tournament appearances in the event s 13-year history, six ECAC Hockey regular-season titles, five ECAC Hockey tournament championships, six Ivy League titles and 10 Beanpot championships. In addition to the team s success under Stone, she has molded some of the best individual talent in the sport of women s ice hockey. Stone has coached nine Olympians and six Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winners, presented annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women s ice hockey. Before coaching at Harvard, Stone served as assistant athletic director and coach at Tabor Academy (Mass.) and had coaching stints at Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) and Phillips Exeter Academy (N.H.). Stone graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1989 with a degree in physical education. She was a captain and four-year letter winner in both hockey and lacrosse and helped the Wildcats hockey team win ECAC championships in 1986 and 1987, and the lacrosse team capture an NCAA title in She earned All-ECAC honors in hockey and was a two-time All-America selection in lacrosse.

It was the 18th year of the tournament (previously the Three Nations Cup) and the fifth time it has taken place in the U.S. All games were held at the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. The United States has now competed in the tournament 17 times, having not participated in Prior to this year s third-place finish, the United States had captured the title five times (1997, 2003, 2008, ), including the previous two years ( ).
