1 GAME DAY: Team USA arrived in Finland on Monday (Nov. 5) after holding a training camp at the New York Rangers MSG Training Facility in Tarrytown, N.Y., from Nov. 1 - Nov. 4, in which 12 players on the roster participated. The 13 other players remained with their collegiate teams before joining the team for the international flight. USA VS. SWEDEN: The United States remains undefeated in 11 games against Sweden in the Three/Four Nations Cup dating back to 2000 when the Swedes joined the tournament. Team USA holds a plus-54 goal differential over Sweden and five of the 11 wins have been shutout victories. LAST SEASON: The U.S. and Sweden met just two times during the season, with the U.S winning at the 2011 Four Nations Cup, 8-0, and at the 2011 Twelve Nations Invitational Series, 2-0. USA VS. This year marks the third time that Finland has hosthed the event matching the U.S., Canada, and Sweden who have also hosted the event three times. Each team will play each other once in the round-robin style tournament, with the top two teams advancing to the final. Team USA has won the tournament four times (1997, 2003, 2008, and 2011) and enters the 2012 Four Nations Cup as the defending champions. MIXING IT UP: Eleven players on the 23-player roster are 2010 Olympians (Molly Schaus, Jessie Vetter, Kacey Bellamy, Lisa Chesson, Julie Chu, Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight, Jocelyne Lamoureux, Monique Lamoureux, Kelli Stack, and Karen Thatcher), while four players (Alex Rigsby, Jincy Dunne, Lyndsey Fry, and Paige Savage) are making their National Team debuts at the senior level. 2 NEW ADDITIONS: Defensemen Milica McMillen and Jincy Dunne were added to the roster just a few days prior to traveling to Finland. The two replace Gigi Marvin and Josephine Pucci as both players were given additional time to rehabilitate injuries suffered earlier in McMillen, a freshman for the top-ranked Minnesota Gophers (WCHA), has notched a point-per-game in 12 games (5-7=12). Dunne, the youngest player on the roster at 15 years old, impressed at USA Hockey Development camps and August Women s National Festival this summer as well as the Pre-Four Nations- Cup Camp at the MSG Training Center in Tarrytown, N.Y. CHU S CAPTAINCY: Forward Julie Chu is serving as Team USA s captain. She has played in three Olympics and has suited up in the USA sweater 216 times since She was selected as USA Hockey s Bob Allen Women s Player of the Year in Chu is competing in her 11th Four Nations Cup. Her alternate captains are Meghan Duggan and Kacey Bellamy. Duggan is competing in her sixth Four Nations Cup, while Bellamy is playing in her seventh. SUCCESS ON THE WORLD STAGE: The U.S. Women s National Program has enjoyed much success in recent years. U.S. teams have won four of the last six IIHF World Women?s Championships (2005, , 2011), as well as three of the first six IIHF World Women s U18 Championships ( , 2011). CWHL: Eight members of Team USA spent the season with teams in the Canadian Women s Hockey League: Kacey Bellamy, Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight, Anne Schleper, Molly Schaus, Kelli Stack, and Karen Thatcher all played for the Boston Blades, while Julie Chu skated for the Montreal Stars. Chu and the Montreal Stars captured the 2012 Clarkson Cup Championship. PLAYER/COACHES: Julie Chu is currently an assistant coach for the Union College women s ice hockey team (she previously spent as an assistant coach for the University of Minnesota Duluth) and Jessie Vetter serves as the director of hockey for Athletic Republic and coaches the Madison Capitols 19U girls team. ALL IN THE FAMILY: Twin sisters Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux are the first set of twins (or sisters) in the U.S. Women s National Program. TEAM NOTES IN THE COMMUNITY: Team USA visited the Maria Fareri Children s Hospital at Westchester Medical Complex during the Pre-Four Nations Cup Camp. The U.S. players spent nearly two hours engaging with the children and their families and brought small team gifts for each of the children. YOUTH CLINIC: Assistant coach Hilary Witt and several of the veteran players spent over an hour conducitng a youth clinic for the Brewster Bulldog 12U girls team at the New York Rangers MSG Training Facility the day before leaving for Finland. 3 and come from a hockey family. Their brother, Jean- Philippe, previously played hockey for North Dakota ( ) and for Team USA at the 2004 Viking Cup. Another brother, Jacques, played for the Alaska Aces of the ECHL and another, Pierre-Paul, was an assistant video coach for the North Dakota men s hockey team. Finally, their youngest brother, Mario, recently completed his senior season on the North Dakota hockey team and played for Team USA at the 2006 Viking Cup, and their father, Jean-Pierre, played hockey for North Dakota ( ). CLOSE-KNIT: Julie Chu is very close with her family, which lives in Fairfield, Conn. Her mother is half- Chinese and half Puerto Rican and her father is from Hong Kong, and they travel to nearly every tournament their daughter plays in, no matter what part of the world. Chu, her parents and her sister and brother all have matching tattoos of the Olympic rings, along with Chu s number 13. UP NEXT: Next on the agenda for the U.S. Women s National Program is the USA Hockey Women s Winter Training Camp, set to begin at the end of December in Blaine, Minn. THE STONE FILE: Katey Stone, head women s ice hockey coach at Harvard University, will continue to lead the U.S. Women s National Team throughout the 2014 Olympics after having been involved with the U.S. Women s National Team Program extensively since Stone has served as head coach of the U.S. Women s National Team on six occasions, including guiding Team USA to its third straight gold medal at the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation Women s World Championship in Zurich, Switzerland and to a silver medal at the 2012 IIHF Women s World Championship in Burlington, Vt. She led the U.S. Women s National Team to a firstplace finish at the 2011 Four Nations Cup in Nykoping, Sweden. Stone also led Team USA to an undefeated (W-OTW-OTL-L) record at the 2011 IIHF Twelve Nations Invitational Tournament Series in Vierumaki, Finland, along with a second-place finish at the 2010 Four Nations Cup in St. Johns, N.L. Stone also served as the head coach of the U.S. Women s National Team at the 2008 Women s Four Nations Cup. There,Team USA captured the tournament title for the first time since In addition, Stone led the U.S. to the gold medal at the first-ever IIHF Under-18 Women-s World Championship in January 2008, coached the U.S. Women s Under-22 Select Team at the 2006 Under-22 Series, and headed the program at the 2012 August Women s National Festival. Along with her accomplishments on the international stage, Stone is the winningest coach in the history of women s hockey at Harvard and one of the most successful coaches ever in the women s collegiate game. Stone recently completed her 17th season behind the Harvard bench with 356 victories, which is the most among NCAA Division I coaches. Stone has led the Crimson to a (.685) record during her tenure, which included the 1999 American Women s Collegiate Hockey Alliance national championship, three straight appearances in the NCAA championship game (2003, 2004, 2005), eight NCAA tournament appearances in the event s 11-year history, six ECAC Hockey regular season titles, five ECAC Hockey tournament championships, five Ivy League titles and 10 Beanpot championships. In addition to the team s success under Stone, she has coached some of the best individual talent in the sport of women s ice hockey. In 17 years at Harvard, Stone has coached nine Olympians and six of the 13 winners of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women s ice hockey. Stone graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1989 with a degree in physical education. She was a captain and four-year letter winner in both hockey and lacrosse for the Wildcats. Stone helped the hockey team win ECAC championships in 1986 and 1987, and the lacrosse team capture an NCAA title in She earned All-ECAC honors in hockey and was a two-time All-America selection in lacrosse. Before coaching at Harvard, Stone served as assistant athletic director and coach at Tabor Academy (Mass.) and had coaching stints at Northfield Mount Hermon School (Mass.) and Phillips Exeter Academy (N.H.).
