Jeff Giesen Record (8th season) GOPHERS TO CAP ROAD SWING AT SCSU The No. 1 Minnesota women s hockey team (10-0-0, WCHA) travels to St. Cloud State (1-6-3, WCHA) this weekend. Puck drop is set for 3:07 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The series marks the Gophers third road series in the last four weeks. ABOUT THE SERIES: GOPHERS VS. HUSKIES Minnesota is all-time against St. Cloud State, dating back to Nov. 15, The Gophers have won the last 14 meetings between the two teams. Most recently, Minnesota shut out the Huskies 2-0 and 3-0 in St. Cloud (Feb , 2013). SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: ST. CLOUD STATE HUSKIES The Huskies (1-6-3, WCHA) skated to their first victory of the season with a 4-1 win over host Minnesota Duluth last Friday (Nov. 1) at AMSOIL Arena and came out with the 1-1 overtime tie last Saturday (Nov. 2). St. Cloud State was overall last season, finishing seventh in the WCHA with a mark in league play. The Huskies fell to Wisconsin in the first round of the WCHA postseason, 5-0 and 4-1, to end the season. The Huskies were led by senior Alex Nelson (10g-12a=22) and junior Molli Mott (9g-13a=22); Mott leads SCSU with nine points in 10 games this season (3g-6a). Junior Julie Friend and sophomore Katie Fitzgerald have split time in net for the Huskies this season. Friend has appeared in seven games with a.936 save percentage and a 2.67 goals against average, while Fitzgerald has a.917 save percentage and a 3.20 goals against average in four games. FROST APPROACHES WIN NO. 200 Head coach Brad Frost is closing in on 200 career wins as Minnesota s head coach. Frost entered the season with a career mark of in six seasons at the helm of the Gopher women s hockey program. Minnesota entered the season riding a 49-game winning streak and last lost on Feb. 17, HOCKEY CITY CLASSIC TICKETS NOW ON SALE Individual tickets for the 2014 Hockey City Classic on Friday, Jan. 17 are now on sale to the general public. Tickets for the outdoor college hockey doubleheader at TCF Bank Stadium start at $15 and are valid for both games. Fans may purchase tickets or by calling Requests for group tickets of 20 or more are currently being accepted at tickets. The Hockey City Classic will kick off with the Gopher women's hockey team taking on Minnesota State at 4:30 p.m. CT followed by the Gopher men's hockey program hosting Ohio State at 8 p.m. The outdoor college hockey doubleheader will be part of a Winter Festival, which will include youth, high school and adult hockey events, private ice rentals, a public skate and much more. WEEKEND REWIND: GOPHERS SWEEP MAVERICKS Minnesota defeated Minnesota State, 4-1 and 7-0, in a home-and-home series last weekend. Thirteen Gophers recorded points against the Mavericks led by senior Kelly Terry s seven-point series (3g-4a). Junior Rachel Ramsey (1g-4a), Hannah Brandt (1g-3a), Sarah Davis (3a), Brook Garzone (2g), Rachael Bona (2a) and Milica McMillen (1g-1a) all had multiple points in the series. Sophomore Amanda Leveille improved to on the season, combining for 37 saves in the two wins. Friday saw the Gophers top the Mavericks 4-1 at Ridder Arena, led by Ramsey s twopoint effort. The junior scored the game-winning goal on the power play and added an assist on Minnesota s third goal. Davis and Terry each finished with two assists, and Leveille made 13 saves. On Saturday in Mankato, Minnesota recorded its fourth shutout of the season with a 7-0 win. Leveille made 24 saves en route to her seventh career shutout. Terry led the way with five points, including a hat trick. Ramsey had three assists, including setting up Brandt s game-winning goal in the first period. FOUR-GOAL THIRD PERIOD The Gophers scored four goals in the third period of Saturday s 7-0 win at Minnesota State, marking the highest scoring output they have had in a single period since scoring four goals in the first period against Colgate (Oct. 5). CENTURY MARK SCORING Senior Sarah Davis earned her 100th career point with an assist in Saturday s 7-0 win over Minnesota State. Meanwhile, sophomore Hannah Brandt is closing in on 100 career points as well (37g-61a=98). ROOKIE SCORING LEADERS Gopher freshmen have combined for 19 points (6g-13a) in their first 10 games led by Dani Cameranesi (4g-3a) and Kelsey Cline (0g-5a). Minnesota s freshman class is tied for fifth in the nation with 1.90 points per game. GOPHER WOMEN ARE LONE PERFECT SQUAD IN DIVISION I The Gopher women are the only team in all of NCAA Division I hockey including women s and men s teams with a perfect record intact. Minnesota is perfect at Cornell is the only other unbeaten women s team (5-0-1), and two men s teams are unbeaten at 5-0-1: Minnesota and St. Cloud State.

She is currently riding 100:02 shutout minutes. Leveille posted a stretch of 176:30 scoreless minutes in four games from Oct , including 48:57 (Oct. 11), 60:00 (Oct. 12), 60:00 (Oct. 18) and 7:33 (Oct. 19). The stretch was the second-longest scoreless streak she has recorded in her career. Leveille began her Gopher career by playing 281:34 without allowing a goal, a streak including action in eight games from Sept. 29, 2012 to Oct. 4, MINNESOTA IS UNANIMOUS NO. 1 The Golden Gophers are the unanimous number one selection in both the USCHO. com and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national polls for the fourth-straight week. The polls are identical this week: No. 1 Minnesota, No. 2 Wisconsin, No. 3 Cornell, No. 4 North Dakota, No. 5 Boston College, No. 6 Clarkson, No. 7 Quinnipiac, No. 8 Harvard, No. 9 Mercyhurst, No. 10 Boston University. Minnesota has been No. 1 in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national polls since the final poll of the season (March 19-20, 2012). This stretch includes 30-straight USCHO.com polls and 33-straight USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. MINNESOTA ADDS SEVEN FRESHMEN FOR Seven freshmen have joined the Gophers for their rookie seasons this year, six of which have already made their debut in Maroon and Gold. Rookie defensemen Kelsey Cline (5a), Paige Haley (1a) and Megan Wolfe (2a) and forwards Dani Cameranesi (4g-3a), Kate Schipper (2g-2a) and Kate Flug have seen ice time already this season. Goaltender Sidney Peters rounds out the newcomers. Six of the new players hail from Minnesota; Peters is a native of Geneva, Ill., but attended the North American Hockey Academy in Stowe, Vt. Cameranesi was named the 2013 Minnesota Ms. Hockey after leading Blake to the Minnesota Class A State championship with 95 points as a senior. Flug was a three-time all-state honoree at Roseville Area High School who played with Bethany Brausen and Lee Stecklein as a freshman. Schipper led Breck to three Minnesota Class A State Tournament appearances and won a state title with Gopher teammate Milica McMillen in Wolfe was the 2013 Pioneer Press Player of the Year after recording 71 points as a senior at Eagan High School. Cameranesi, Flug, Peters, Schipper and Wolfe all have experience with the U.S. Under-18 team at the IIHF Under-18 Women s World Championships. Blue-liners Cline and Haley participated in USA Hockey national development camps as well. Cline played for Bloomington Jefferson and earned all-state honors as a senior, while Haley was a four-time all-state honoree at Red Wing High School. GOPHERS TABBED NO. 1 IN PRESEASON POLLS Minnesota was picked to win the WCHA league title, according to the annual preseason poll of the league s head coaches. The Gophers collected seven first place votes and 49 points in the league s preseason poll. Wisconsin was second, followed by North Dakota, Ohio State, Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota State, respectively. Bemidji State and St. Cloud State tied for seventh place. Minnesota opened the season at No. 1 in both the USCHO.com Division I Women s Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women s College Hockey Poll as well. HOCKEY CITY CLASSIC TO HIGHLIGHT SLATE Minnesota will host the 2014 Hockey City Classic Jan. 17 at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The outdoor college hockey doubleheader will kick off with the Gopher women s hockey program taking on Minnesota State at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Gopher men s hockey program hosting Ohio State at 8 p.m. ON THE HORIZON The Gophers return to Ridder Arena for a WCHA showdown with No. 4 North Dakota, Nov Puck drop is set for 2:07 p.m. Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Frost entered the season with a career record of (.815) and has not had a team finish lower than second in the WCHA. COACHING EXCELLENCE Frost, who has won two national titles, is considered one of the best and most respected coaches in collegiate hockey. In his six seasons, he has been named an AHCA Coach of the Year Finalist three times and has won the national honor once (2013). Frost has also been named WCHA Coach of the Year three times (2008, 2009 and 2013). Under his tutelage, the Gophers have accumulated three seasons with 30 or more wins, which is only matched by Wisconsin. In 2013, Frost led the Gophers to the NCAA s first-ever perfect season (41-0-0). PLAYER DEVELOPMENT Over the last six years, Frost has coached some of the top talent not only in the nation but also in the world. He has seen two players (Gigi Marvin and Noora Räty) represent their respective countries in the Olympics, and there is a possibility that nine additional Gophers will compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games. He also aided the development of former Gophers and Olympians Natalie Darwitz, Kelly Stephens, Lyndsay Wall and Krissy Wendell while a Minnesota assistant coach. Frost has coached a total of seven players to a combined 11 All-American honors. Among those All-Americans is 2013 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner Amanda Kessel. A total of six Minnesota student-athletes have been named Top-10 Patty Kaz Finalists under Frost s tutelage. ACADEMIC SUCCESS Under Frost s guidance, the Gophers have recorded a 3.0 or higher grade point average and increased the team s Academic Progress Rating (APR) each season. Minnesota has accumulated 65 WCHA All-Academic Team members, 14 WCHA Scholar Athlete honorees and one WCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Gigi Marvin, 2009) since Frost took reign. INTERNATIONAL COACHING EXPERIENCE Frost has been instrumental in aiding USA Hockey by working development camps and serving as a coach for various U.S. teams. In 2006, he was an assistant coach on the U.S. Under-22 Team, and from , he was an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team. PERSONAL LIFE BRAD FROST 7TH SEASON AT MINN. BETHEL, 1996 Frost grew up in Burlington, Ont., and attended Aldershot High School. After graduating from Aldershot, he decided to attend college at Bethel University, which is where his parents originally met. While at Bethel, he studied Physical & Health Education and was a two-sport athlete, competing at hockey and golf. Frost was a four-year letterwinner in hockey and ranks eighth on Bethel s career scoring list. In 1994 and 1995, he was voted the team s Most Valuable Player and Most Inspirational. He also captained the Royals his junior and senior seasons. At Bethel, Frost met his wife Dayna. They now reside in Cottage Grove, Minn., and have three sons: Micah, Jonah and Josiah.
