Friday's game is Girls Youth Hockey Night at Ridder Arena; the first 250 girls youth hockey players in attendance will receive a free Gophers bag tag. The Gophers will honor the team s four seniors, Sydney Baldwin, Cara Piazza, Sidney Peters, and Caitlin Reilly, prior to Saturday s game. About the Series: Minnesota vs. Minnesota State The Gophers are all-time against Minnesota State, including a 48-game unbeaten streak dating back to Jan Earlier this season, Minnesota won 6-1 and 5-2 on the road in Mankato, Minn. Scouting the Mavericks Minnesota State (3-20-1, WCHA) enters this weekend s series looking to snap a four-game losing streak. The Mavericks have been outscored 18-1 over the last four games, falling on the road at St. Cloud State 5-0 and 3-1 and dropping a series at Wisconsin with 6-0 and 4-0 losses. MSU opened the New Year with a 3-0 exhibition win over Team Korea. Freshman forward Brittyn Fleming (4g-11a) and junior forwards Jordan McLaughlin (6g-6a) and Corbin Boyd (3g-7a) lead the Mavericks in scoring. Minnesota State averages 1.62 goals per game while surrendering 3.79 goals per game. Junior Kathryn Bidulka (1-14-0) and sophomore Chloe Crosby (2-6-1) have split time in net. Bidulka has a 3.74 goals against average and a.879 save percentage while Crosby has nearly identical numbers with a 3.79 goals against average and a.869 save percentage. Last Time Out: Gophers Suffer Road Sweep Minnesota (17-8-2, WCHA) suffered its first two road losses of the season last weekend, falling 3-2 and 5-1 at Ohio State. Sydney Baldwin (1g-2a) led the Gophers, assisting both goals in game one before scoring the team s lone goal in game two on a solo effort. Sidney Peters and Alex Gulstene split time in net, each took one loss in net. Twenty Years of Gopher Women s Hockey Minnesota enters this week s series with Minnesota State with an all-time program record of The season marks the 21st season in Gopher women s hockey history, and Minnesota secured the program's 599th and 600th all-time wins on the road at Bemidji State earlier this season. The class has made three NCAA Frozen Four appearances and won back-to-back NCAA titles in 2015 and There Gophers were WCHA regular-season champions in 2015 and WCHA Final Face-off runners-up in Road Warriors Minnesota opened the season with a perfect road record over the first half of the regular season, earning sweeps at Bemidji State, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State, Mercyhurst, and Lindenwood. The Gophers are currently in road games. Career-High Scoring Sydney Baldwin (7g-17a), Nicole Schammel (14g-10a), Sophie Skarzynski (6g-15a), Caitlin Reilly (8g-12a), Alex Woken (8g-9a), Patti Marshall (1g-13a), and Kippin Keller (2g-8a) have already reached career-highs for scoring this season. Notable Notes Minnesota is this season when leading at the second intermission. Caitlin Reilly leads Minnesota with seven multi-point games while Nicole Schammel has a team-best three multi-goal games this season. Cara Piazza is tied for fourth in the nation with four game-winning goals this season. More than half of Piazza s goals on the season are game-winners as she has 18 points (7g-11a) in 27 games. Offensive Defensemen Sydney Baldwin (7g-17a), Olivia Knowles (6g-9a), and Patti Marshall (1g-13a) are among the WCHA s top-scoring defensemen. Baldwin leads the WCHA and is tied for fourth in the nation with 0.89 points per game while Knowles (0.56 points per game) and Marshall (0.52 points per game) rank seventh and eighth, respectively, among WCHA blue-liners. Immediate Impact All five of Minnesota s freshmen are seeing significant ice time with all four skaters picking up their first collegiate goals and goaltender Alex Gulstene playing in 12 games (7-2-1). Grace Zumwinkle (12g-16a) leads the team in scoring while Taylor Wente (9g-10a), Olivia Knowles (6g-9a), and Emily Brown (2g-5a) have all registered points on the year. WCHA s Best Power Play Minnesota leads the WCHA and ranks sixth in the NCAA on the power play, converting on 24.1 percent of attempts at 20-for-83. The Gophers also rank second in the league and seventh in the nation at 89.2 percent (66-for-74) on the penalty kill. Scoring Milestone Sydney Baldwin recorded her 50th career point with an assist against Merrimack (Sept. 29). She is tied for second on the team with 24 points (7g-17a) on the season, and her career total stands at 73 career points with 19 goals and 54 assists. Baldwin currently ranks 11th in career goals among all-time Gopher blue-liners. Home, Sweet Home Including a mark at home to start , the Gophers have compiled a record of in home games at Ridder Arena dating back to Up Next: Road Trip to St. Cloud State The Gophers are back on the road next weekend, traveling to St. Cloud State for a pair of 3 p.m. games next Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Earlier this season, Minnesota swept the Huskies with 3-0 and 4-3 wins on home ice. Johnson Leads U.S. Under 18 Squad to Gold Associate head coach Joel Johnson led the U.S. Under-18 Women s National Team to its fourth-straight gold medal at the IIHF Under-18 Women s World Championship in Dmitrov, Russia, earlier this month. Gopher signees Taylor Heise and Gracie Ostertag won their third-straight gold medals representing the U.S. as well. Gophers Sign Six for Head coach Brad Frost is pleased to welcome six student-athletes for the season. Abigail Boreen (Somerset, Wis./Hill-Murray School), Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn./ Red Wing High School), Crystalyn Hengler (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie High School), Emily Oden (Edina, Minn./Edina High School), Gracie Ostertag (Shakopee, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary s School), and Catie Skaja (New Prague, Minn./New Prague Senior High School) make up the newest class of Gophers. Frost Enters Second Decade Head coach Brad Frost is back for his 11th season at the helm of the program with a career record of in his first 10 seasons. Last season, the Gophers celebrated Frost's 300th career coaching victory with a road sweep at Ohio State in October 2016.

Eight Gophers Head to Olympic Games Eight players with Gopher ties will represent their respective countries at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Senior Kelly Pannek and alumnae Hannah Brandt ('16), Dani Cameranesi ( 17), Amanda Kessel ('16), Gigi Marvin ('09), and Lee Stecklein ( 17) were named to the 2018 U.S. Women s Olympic Team, and alumnae Noora Räty ( 13) and Mira Jalosuo ( 13) have been chosen to represent Finland. Alumna Megan Bozek (USA) and current Gophers Sarah Potomak (Canada), and Amy Potomak (Canada) were centralized with their respective national teams in preparation for the Olympic Games but were not selected to the final Olympic rosters. Raty is making her fourth Olympics appearance after representing Finland in 2006, 2010, and Meanwhile, Jalosuo is making her second appearance after joining Raty on Finland's 2014 team. Marvin leads the USA Gophers in making her third Olympic Games appearance after earning silver at both the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C., and the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Kessel and Stecklein also return to the line-up for the Red, White, and Blue after earning silver in Brandt, Cameranesi, and Pannek are making their Olympic debuts. The PyeongChang Games kick off in South Korea on Friday, Feb. 9 and conclude Thursday, Feb. 25. The women s ice hockey competition begins Sunday, Feb. 11 at the Kwandong Hockey Centre in the PyeongChang Coastal Cluster. The gold-medal game will be held Monday, Feb. 22 at the Gangneung Hockey Centre. The U.S. and Finland join Canada and Russia in competing in Group A. WCHA Final Faceoff, NCAA Frozen Four Return to Ridder Arena Minnesota will once again serve as host of the WCHA Final Faceoff, marking the 11th time the league s postseason tournament has been held at Ridder Arena. All-tournament ticket packages for the 2018 WCHA Final Faceoff, to be held Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4, are now on sale. The NCAA Women's Frozen Four also returns to Ridder Arena this season, marking the fourth time the national championship will be played on the Gophers' ice. Ticket packages are on sale now and include tickets to both national semifinals on Friday, March 16 and the national championship game on Sunday, March 18. Single-session tickets will go on sale at a later date, subject to availability. Ridder Arena hosted the NCAA Women's Frozen Four in 2010, 2013, and Who s New? WCHA Preseason Rookie of the Year Grace Zumwinkle (Excelsior, Minn.) leads Minnesota s talented freshmen class, which also includes defense Emily Brown (Blaine, Minn.), goaltender Alex Gulstene (Vancouver, B.C.), defense Olivia Knowles (Campbell River, B.C.), and forward Taylor Wente (Maple Grove, Minn.). Junior forward Jackie Pieper (Edina, Minn.), who spent three years at Merrimack College, rounds out Minnesota s newcomers. Freshman Amy Potomak (Aldergrove, B.C.) joins the Gophers for the spring semester, but she is expected to red shirt the season after beginning the year centralized with Canada s National Women s team. Quest for Eighth National Title in Despite falling short of a third-straight national title in 2017, Minnesota has still won four of the last six national championships and has seven national titles overall (2000, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016). In his first 10 seasons as head coach, Frost has brought the program to the pinnacle of the collegiate hockey world by advancing to six-straight NCAA Women's Frozen Fours and winning four of the last six national crowns, including back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013 and again in 2015 and After joining the program in 2001 as an assistant coach and later holding the interim head coach title during the , Frost was named the program's second head coach on April 16, BRAD FROST 11TH YEAR AT MINNESOTA BETHEL, 1996 With 10 years of experience under his belt, the Bethel University graduate has guided the Gophers to four NCAA national championships, nine NCAA Frozen Four appearances, five WCHA regular season titles and three WCHA Final Face- Off championships. Frost ended the season with a career record of (.833) and has not had a team finish lower than second in the WCHA. COACHING EXCELLENCE Frost, who has won four national titles, is considered one of the best and most respected coaches in collegiate hockey. In his 10 seasons, he has been named an AHCA Coach of the Year Finalist seven times and has won the national honor twice (2013 and 2014). Frost has also been named WCHA Coach of the Year four times (2008, 2009, 2013 and 2014). Under his tutelage, the Gophers have accumulated six seasons with 30 or more wins. In 2013, Frost led the Gophers to the NCAA's first-ever perfect season (41-0-0). PLAYER DEVELOPMENT Over the last 10 years, Frost has coached some of the top talent not only in the nation but also in the world. He has seen seven players (Megan Bozek, Mira Jalosuo, Amanda Kessel, Gigi Marvin, Noora Räty, Anne Schleper, and Lee Stecklein) represent their respective countries in the Olympics. He also aided the development of former Gophers and Olympians Natalie Darwitz, Kelly Stephens, Lyndsay Wall, and Krissy Wendell while a Minnesota assistant coach. Frost has coached a total of 13 players to a combined 23 All-American honors. Among those All-Americans is 2013 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner Amanda Kessel. A total of 11 Minnesota student-athletes have been named Top-10 Patty Kaz finalists 19 times under Frost's tutelage. ACADEMIC SUCCESS Under Frost's guidance, the Gophers have recorded a 3.0 or higher grade point average and increased the team's Academic Progress Rating (APR). Minnesota has accumulated 117 WCHA All-Academic Team awards (17 in ), 41 WCHA Scholar Athlete honorees (nine in ) and two WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year award recipients (Gigi Marvin, 2009 and Kelly Terry, 2014) since Frost took reign. INTERNATIONAL COACHING EXPERIENCE Frost has served USA Hockey by working development camps and serving as a coach for various U.S. teams. In 2006, he was an assistant coach of the U.S. Under-22 Team, and from , he was an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team. PERSONAL LIFE Frost grew up in Burlington, Ontario, and attended Aldershot High School. After graduating from Aldershot, he decided to attend college at Bethel University, which is where his parents originally met. While at Bethel, he studied Physical & Health Education and was a two-sport athlete, competing in hockey and golf. Frost was a four-year letterwinner in hockey and completed his career ranked eighth on Bethel's career scoring list. In 1994 and 1995, he was voted the team's Most Valuable Player and Most Inspirational. He also captained the Royals his junior and senior seasons. At Bethel, Frost met his wife Dayna. They now reside in Cottage Grove, Minn., and have three sons: Micah, Jonah and Josiah.
