Last Time Out: Gophers Improve to on Road Minnesota (9-4-1, WCHA) remained perfect on the road with a nonconference sweep at Mercyhurst last week. The Gophers won 2-1 in overtime in game one before posting a 5-2 win in game two. Ten players had at least one point in the series led by Taylor Wente (2g-1a), Grace Zumwinkle (1g-2a), and Caitlin Reilly (3a). Alex Gulstene and Sidney Peters each earned one win in net. About the Series: Minnesota vs. St. Cloud State Minnesota is in 81 all-time games against St. Cloud State. The Gophers are on a 34-game winning streak over the Huskies dating back to Oct Twenty Years of Gopher Women s Hockey The Gophers enter this weekend s series with St. Cloud State with an all-time program record of The season marks the 21st season in Gopher women s hockey history, and Minnesota secured the program's 599th and 600th all-time wins on the road at Bemidji State earlier this season. Scouting the Huskies St. Cloud State (2-10-0, WCHA) enters this week's series looking to snap a five-game losing streak. Most recently, the Huskies dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Bemidji State at home. SCSU s lone wins of the season came in a 3-2 victory over Connecticut and a 4-2 win at Minnesota State. Freshman forward Laura Kluge (2g- 4a) and Julia Tylke (5g) lead the Huskies in scoring. Despite returning 75 percent of its goals and 71 percent of its total offensive production, including its top four goal-scorers and point-getters from a year ago, the Huskies have been shut out in seven of 12 games so far this season. St. Cloud State is young in net as sophomore Janine Alder leads the way. Alder has played in seven games with a record, a.931 save percentage, and a 2.42 goals against average while freshman Emma Polusny has seen action in five games, going with a.897 save percentage and a 3.25 goals against average. Redshirt junior Taylor Crosby has yet to appear in a game. Offensive Defensemen Sydney Baldwin (2g-12a) and Patti Marshall (1g-10a) are among the WCHA s top-

Baldwin leads the WCHA and ranks fifth in the nation with 1.00 points per game while Marshall is third in the league and 17th in the NCAA at 0.79 points per game. Immediate Impact All five of Minnesota s freshmen have seen significant ice time already this season with all four skaters picking up their first collegiate points and goaltender Alex Gulstene playing in six games (4-1-1). Grace Zumwinkle (7g-8a), Olivia Knowles (2g-6a), Taylor Wente (6g-3a), and Emily Brown (4a) have all registered at least four points on the year. WCHA's Best Special Teams Minnesota leads the WCHA and ranks eighth in the NCAA on the power play, converting on 23.9 percent of attempts at 11-for-46. The Gophers also lead the league and rank eighth in the nation at 88.6 percent (39-for-44) on the penalty kill. Most recently, the Gophers scored two shorthanded goals in game two against Mercyhurst while holding the Lakers scoreless on 10 power plays in the series. Grace Zumwinkle is tied for the NCAA lead with five power-play goals this season. Scoring Milestone Sydney Baldwin recorded her 50th career point with an assist against Merrimack (Sept. 29). She is third on the team with 14 points (2g-12a) on the season, and her career total stands at 63 career points with 14 goals and 49 assists. Eleven Gophers Medal at Four Nations Cup Kelly Pannek, Megan Bozek ('13), Hannah Brandt ('16), Dani Cameranesi ( 17), Amanda Kessel ('16), Gigi Marvin ('09), and Lee Stecklein ( 17) earned gold with the U.S. Women's National Team; Sarah Potomak and signee Amy Potomak took home silver with Canada s National Women s Team, and Noora Raty ( 13) and Mira Jalosuo ( 13) won bronze with Finland at the 2017 Four Nations Cup last week. Up Next: Gophers to Visit Lindenwood Minnesota is back on the road next week, traveling to St. Charles, Mo., for a nonconference series at Lindenwood. The Gophers and Lions face off at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 25 and Sunday, Nov. 26. Gophers Tabbed as League Favorite Minnesota has been named the WCHA's preseason favorite heading into the season. The Gophers collected four first-place votes and 34 points in the annual preseason poll of the league's seven head coaches. The Gophers edged back-to-back defending WCHA champion Wisconsin by one point in the league's pre-season poll as the Badgers posted 33 points with three first-place votes. Minnesota Duluth and Ohio State tied for third in the poll with 23 points each while Bemidji State (14 points), St. Cloud State (11 points), and Minnesota State (9 points) rounded out the poll. Frost Enters Second Decade Head coach Brad Frost is back for his 11th season at the helm of the program with a career record of in his first 10 seasons. Last season, the Gophers celebrated Frost's 300th career coaching victory with a road sweep at Ohio State in October Who's Back? Minnesota returns 16 players from Co-captains Sydney Baldwin and Cara Piazza and fellow seniors Sidney Peters and Caitlin Reilly lead this year s team. Duo Serving as Captains Seniors Sydney Baldwin and Cara Piazza are serving as the Gophers co-captains this year. The duo was part of back-to-back national championship teams their freshmen and sophomore years at the University of Minnesota, and they have helped the program advance to three-straight NCAA Frozen Fours. Baldwin, a health services management and human resources development major, the Minnetonka, Minn., native is a two-time WCHA All-Academic Team and Academic All-Big Ten team honoree along with earning WCHA Scholar Athlete accolades this past season. Piazza is a two-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, WCHA All-Academic Team, and Academic All-Big Ten Team honoree who is studying mechanical engineering.

The Darien, Ill., product is the first Illinois native to captain the team since Megan Bozek in Zumwinkle Leads Freshman Class WCHA Preseason Rookie of the Year Grace Zumwinkle (Excelsior, Minn.) leads Minnesota s talented freshmen class, which also includes defense Emily Brown (Blaine, Minn.), goaltender Alex Gulstene (Vancouver, B.C.), defense Olivia Knowles (Campbell River, B.C.), and forward Taylor Wente (Maple Grove, Minn.). Junior forward Jackie Pieper (Edina, Minn.), who spent three years at Merrimack College, rounds out Minnesota s newcomers. Pannek and Potomak Centralized with National Teams The Gophers are without the services of senior Kelly Pannek and junior Sarah Potomak, who are currently centralized with the U.S. Women s National Team and Canadian National Women s Team, respectively, in preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. In total, 11 current and former Gophers are Olympic hopefuls. Seven players with Golden Gopher ties are among the 23 players named to the U.S. Women's National Team in Pannek, Megan Bozek ('13), Hannah Brandt ('16), Dani Cameranesi ( 17), Amanda Kessel ('16), Gigi Marvin ('09), Lee Stecklein ( 17) signee Amy Potomak joins older sister Sarah in being centralized with Canada s National Women s Team, and Noora Raty ( 13) and Mira Jalosuo ( 13) are expected to represent Finland in the 2018 Olympic Games as well. Season Recap: A Look Back at Minnesota's season came to a close in the semifinal round of the 2017 NCAA Women s Frozen Four. The Gophers posted an overall record of while going in WCHA play. Minnesota finished as WCHA regular season runnerup for the second-straight year and tied for third at the WCHA Final Face-Off. Minnesota produced two of the nation s top-10 scorers, multiple All-Americans for the sixth-straight year, a program-record 17 WCHA All-Academic Team honorees, and the NCAA s second-ranked power-play. WCHA Final Faceoff, NCAA Frozen Four Return to Ridder Arena Minnesota will again serve as host of the WCHA Final Faceoff in , marking the 11th time the league s postseason tournament has been held at Ridder Arena. The NCAA Women's Frozen Four also re-turns to Ridder Arena this season, marking the fourth time the national championship will be played on the Gophers' home ice. Ridder Arena hosted the NCAA Women's Frozen Four in 2010, 2013, and Quest for Eighth National Title in Despite falling short of a third-straight national title in 2017, Minnesota has still won four of the last six national championships and has seven national titles overall (2000, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016). In his first 10 seasons as head coach, Frost has brought the program to the pinnacle of the collegiate hockey world by advancing to six-straight NCAA Women's Frozen Fours and winning four of the last six national crowns, including back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013 and again in 2015 and After joining the program in 2001 as an assistant coach and later holding the interim head coach title during the , Frost was named the program's second head coach on April 16, With 10 years of experience under his belt, the Bethel University graduate has guided the Gophers to four NCAA national championships, nine NCAA Frozen Four appearances, five WCHA regular season titles and three WCHA Final Face- Off championships. Frost ended the season with a career record of (.833) and has not had a team finish lower than second in the WCHA. COACHING EXCELLENCE Frost, who has won four national titles, is considered one of the best and most respected coaches in collegiate hockey. In his 10 seasons, he has been named an AHCA Coach of the Year Finalist seven times and has won the national honor twice (2013 and 2014). Frost has also been named WCHA Coach of the Year four times (2008, 2009, 2013 and 2014). Under his tutelage, the Gophers have accumulated six seasons with 30 or more wins. In 2013, Frost led the Gophers to the NCAA's first-ever perfect season (41-0-0). PLAYER DEVELOPMENT Over the last 10 years, Frost has coached some of the top talent not only in the nation but also in the world. He has seen seven players (Megan Bozek, Mira Jalosuo, Amanda Kessel, Gigi Marvin, Noora Räty, Anne Schleper, and Lee Stecklein) represent their respective countries in the Olympics. He also aided the development of former Gophers and Olympians Natalie Darwitz, Kelly Stephens, Lyndsay Wall, and Krissy Wendell while a Minnesota assistant coach. Frost has coached a total of 13 players to a combined 23 All-American honors. Among those All-Americans is 2013 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner Amanda Kessel. A total of 11 Minnesota student-athletes have been named Top-10 Patty Kaz finalists 19 times under Frost's tutelage. ACADEMIC SUCCESS Under Frost's guidance, the Gophers have recorded a 3.0 or higher grade point average and increased the team's Academic Progress Rating (APR). Minnesota has accumulated 117 WCHA All-Academic Team awards (17 in ), 41 WCHA Scholar Athlete honorees (nine in ) and two WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year award recipients (Gigi Marvin, 2009 and Kelly Terry, 2014) since Frost took reign. INTERNATIONAL COACHING EXPERIENCE Frost has served USA Hockey by working development camps and serving as a coach for various U.S. teams. In 2006, he was an assistant coach of the U.S. Under-22 Team, and from , he was an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team. PERSONAL LIFE BRAD FROST 11TH YEAR AT MINNESOTA BETHEL, 1996 Frost grew up in Burlington, Ontario, and attended Aldershot High School. After graduating from Aldershot, he decided to attend college at Bethel University, which is where his parents originally met. While at Bethel, he studied Physical & Health Education and was a two-sport athlete, competing in hockey and golf. Frost was a four-year letterwinner in hockey and completed his career ranked eighth on Bethel's career scoring list. In 1994 and 1995, he was voted the team's Most Valuable Player and Most Inspirational. He also captained the Royals his junior and senior seasons. At Bethel, Frost met his wife Dayna. They now reside in Cottage Grove, Minn., and have three sons: Micah, Jonah and Josiah.

Since its opening in 2002, Ridder Arena has been a regular host of WCHA Championships, NCAA Regionals and Frozen Fours. A brand-new center-hung video board was installed during the season.
