The victory marked the third straight win over a ranked opponent. The Buckeyes scored two in the first and two in the second to take a 4-0 lead into the final period. North Dakota stormed back with three in the third period before senior forward Paige Semenza iced the game for Ohio State with an empty net goal. Semenza led the way with her first career hat trick and the Buckeyes got goals from freshman forward Julia McKinnon and senior forward Tina Hollowell. On Saturday the Buckeyes fell for the first time this season by a final score of 2-0. BUCKEYES MAKING NOISE The Buckeyes started the season with five straight wins for the first time in program history. Ohio State comes in at No. 6 in the latest USCHO poll and No. 7 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, the highest rankings in the 14 year history of the program. The Buckeyes were No. 10 in each of the national polls last week, and after the series with No. 1 Minnesota, OSU will have played six consecutive games versus ranked opponents. The highest ranking for the team was previously eighth, last on Feb. 5, 2002 when the Buckeyes were at No. 8 in both polls. KNAPP OFF TO GREAT START Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp recorded 66 saves in the series split with North Dakota, stopping 32 shots in the 5-3 win Friday and 34 of 35 shots she faced in the loss Saturday for a saves percentage of.957. She now has a goals-against average of 1.51 this season, a.940 saves percentage and a record of SEMENZA, SENIORS PLAYING BIG Senior forward Paige Semenza recorded her first career hat trick in the 5-3 win over UND. Semenza leads Ohio State with 11 points and seven goals scored and is an impressive +7 while on the ice through six games. Senior forward Tina Hollowell found the back of the net for the eventual game winner late in the second period, her third goal of the season. Senior forwards Hokey Langan and Minttu Tuominen each had a pair of assists in the win Friday night and each have seven points this season. The four true seniors on the squad (Langan, Semenza, Hollowell and Tuominen) have accounted for exactly half of the points tallied by the Buckeyes (31 of 62). ANOTHER LEAGUE AWARD FOR OSU Senior forward Paige Semenza has been named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Semenza, a product of Pittston, Pa., scored a goal in all three periods on Friday to help lead the Buckeyes to its third straight win over a ranked opponent and the first ever start in program history. This is the second WCHA honor for the Buckeyes in as many weeks. Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp was named Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 10. OhioStateBuckeyes.com

2 LANGAN CLIMBING CAREER LISTS AT OSU Senior forward Hokey Langan had two more assists over the weekend to give her 65 for her career and move her into a tie for sixth all-time at Ohio State with Emma Laaksonen ( ). The first goal of the season for Langan was the 47th of her career, tying her for fifth all-time at Ohio State for goals scored with former Buckeye Laura McIntosh ( ). ABOUT MINNESOTA The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers are the first-ranked team in the nation for the fourth straight week. The defending WCHA and national champions are off to a start this season, in the WCHA, and are outscoring their opponents Minnesota is coming off a non-conference sweep on the road against St. Lawrence. The Golden Gophers are led by junior forward Amanda Kessel and freshman forward Hannah Brandt, each with 18 points. Newcomer Brandt leads all of Division I women s hockey with nine goals. Senior goaltender Nora Raty is a perfect and has allowed just one goal this season. Raty leads the nation with a.990 saves percentage. Minnesota has been successful on nearly half of their power play opportunities (14-30) and are yet to surrender a power play goal (29-29). BUCKEYES VS. MINNESOTA Ohio State is all-time against Minnesota. The last win against the Golden Gophers came on Oct. 20, 2007 (five years from this Saturday). The last Ohio State win against Minnesota in Minneapolis came on Jan. 12, CLOSING IN ON 200 With the first season of Ohio State women s hockey being played in , the program has amassed a record of , making the Buckeyes just one victory shy of the 200 milestone. MacKENZIE JOINS COACHING STAFF Chris MacKenzie has joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach after spending the last three seasons as the head coach of the women s program at Niagara University, where he himself played collegiately for the Purple Eagles ( ). Prior to taking over the women s program at his alma mater, MacKenzie served as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell for their men s squad. Candice Moxley is in her second year as an assistant coach, and Jeff Salajko (goalies) and Brittany Carlson (undergraduate assistant) join as new volunteer assistant coaches, to round out Handrahan s coaching staff. BUCKEYES NAME CAPTAINS The Ohio State women s hockey team selected senior Hokey Langan as captain for the season, head coach Nate Handrahan announced. Seniors Paige Semenza, Tina Hollowell and Minttu Tuominen will serve as assistant captains. Semenza also served as an assistant captain in NOTE WORTHY Junior defenseman Annie Svedin, through six games, already has a career best eight points this season. Svedin had two assists in the win over UND and is tied for the team lead in assists with Langan (6). Freshman forward Julia McKinnon scored her second career goal in the 5-3 win over UND. Junior forward Ally Tarr recorded her second assist of the season in the victory over UND. Semenza s third goal of the game was an empty net goal. OSU gave up an empty net goal Saturday.
