Senior Claudia Kepler got the ball rolling for the Badgers early in the first period, burying a rebound from sophomore Abby Roque to give Wisconsin (200) a 10 lead over Lindenwood (020). It s awesome, Kepler said about the goal. It was a great play by Abby, really, I was just in the right place in the right time, she hit it off the crossbar, so I just knocked it in after that. It marked Kepler s first goal as a Badger as the Verona, Wisconsin, native transferred from Ohio State after playing three years for the Buckeyes. Sophomore Presley Norby hammered home a backhanded goal in the second period to give the Badgers a 20 lead. It marked Norby s second goal of the weekend after she scored UW s opening goal on Friday. Today she was one of our best players, UW head coach Mark Johnson said. She had a lot of energy, played a lot of minutes, scored a nice goal in the second period. Whether it was killing a penalty or fiveonfive she seemed to be around the puck, have the puck, and that s a good sign. 2

During his tenure, Johnson and the Badgers have shattered both school and national records. Johnson has established Wisconsin s rank among the elite in college women s hockey. Under his direction, Wisconsin has compiled four NCAA titles, seven Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff titles and six WCHA regularseason crowns. Johnson and the Badgers were the first team ever to land in the NCAA championship game in four consecutive seasons, winning the title three times (2006, 2007, 2009). A fourtime American Hockey Coaches Association Division I Coach of the Year, Johnson led the Badgers to their fourth national title in while posting a 3722 record, setting a thenncaa record for most wins in a single season. The Badgers also claimed the WCHA regularseason and playoff titles en route to winning their fourth national championship in six years. Five Badgers have won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award under Johnson. Sara Bauer became UW s first award recipient in 2006, Jessie Vetter received the award in 2009, Meghan Duggan in 2011, Brianna Decker in 2012 and AnnRenee Desbiens in In , Wisconsin debuted at No. 1 and went on to validate that distinction with a 3641 record and a national championship. As an encore in , the team successfully defended all three championships while posting a 3614 record. Johnson guided the 2010 U.S. Olympic team to the silver medal at the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia. The U.S. fell to Canada, 20, in the gold medal game after outscoring its opponents 402 in the first four games of the tournament. In his playing career at Wisconsin, Johnson helped the Badgers to the 1977 NCAA Championship during his freshman campaign. The first Badger ever to win WCHA Rookie of the Year honors, he went on to become the school s second alltime leading scorer with 256 points on a schoolrecord 125 goals and 131 assists in just three seasons Johnson represented USA Hockey as a player in 13 international tournaments. Most notably, he led the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team s gold medalwinning effort with 11 points, including two goals in the Miracle On Ice against the Soviet Union and an assist on the gamewinning goal against Finland in the final contest. During his 11year NHL career, Johnson collected 203 goals, 305 assists and 508 points, highlighted by his 87point season as the captain of the Hartford Whalers in He also tied an NHL AllStar Game record with three assists that season.
