3 2014 CROSS TIMBERS HONOREES Don & Ann Metch Don and Ann met as 4-H members; they have been married for 57 years. They have been involved with Polled Herefords for over 45 years. Metch Polled Herefords Ranch has over 185 registered Polled Herefords, including seven Dams of Distinction breed by the Metch s. A bull and female market has been developed to support the operation. Cattle are consigned and sold though association sales, NETHA, Crosstimbers, Magnolia and the Texas All Star Sale as well as many private treaty sales. Don helped organize, and was chairman of the Texas Harvest Sale for ten years. Don and Ann have been members of the Texas Polled Hereford Association since Don served as Director 1988 ~ 1991, Vice President in 1989, and President in Ann served as director of The Texas Pollettes from 1985 ~ She was Vice President in 1986 and President in Being the first voting member of the Pollettes on the TPHA Board of Directors in 1988, Ann was Texas Pollette of the Year In 1991 Don received the outstanding Van Zandt County Beef Producer Award. And was the 1998 Agriculturalist of the year. Don and Ann own Nursery Brokerage Company, selling plants and trees in Texas, Oklahoma. They are a member of the Texas Association of Nurseryman. As active members of Four Mile Lutheran Church, Ann is a member of the Alter guild. Don served as Church council President for two years and has been on the council for 25 years as Cemetery Chairman. Don is serving on the Board of Directors, and is Sec-Treasure for the Van Zandt County Farm Bureau They both participate as Delegates to the State Farm Bureau Convention and Commodity Conference. The Metch s have two children~ Bill, who lives in Bainbridge, NY., with wife Chris and grandchildren Dan, Jake, Jessica and Eric who are active Junior Hereford members. Dan and his wife, Jenilee, have 2 boys Wyatt 3 and Colton 16 months. Their daughter Barbara and husband Gary Holan are deeply involved in the family Hereford operation as well. Barbara does the AI work, showing and sales. Gary helps with farm operation. Barbara is a past State Pollette President, National Pollette Board Member and was Chairman of the NOP and a past President of the Texas Polled Hereford Association. The Metch Family is looking forward to spending many more years to come in the Hereford way of life 1

6 Sale Terms & Conditions: 1. Terms Cash. Each animal to be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer shall settle any dispute as to bids. 2. No cattle will be released until sale is completed. 3. Announcements at the sale ring by the owners or the auctioneer concerning the cattle will take precedence over statements in the sale catalog. 4. All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk and the owners or management assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents which may occur. 5. Robert Schacher, auctioneer, acts as agent for the sellers. 6. Southwest Cattle, Robbie Morish, is only an agent for the sellers and has no responsibilities other than those involved in conducting the sale. 7. If you would like to place a bid but will not be able to attend, we will be happy to handle the bids for you. You will need to furnish a letter of credit from your bank unless arrangements have been made with the sale managers. Trucking: The owners and sale management will make every attempt to assist buyers in hauling at the lowest possible cost. Health: All cattle will have health certificates required for shipping into other sections of the U.S. All bred females will have been pregnancy examined. All bulls over 12 months will be fertility tested and tested for Trichomoniosis and so stated on health papers. Registration Certificates: Registration certificates will be transferred to the buyer at the seller s expense. Each buyer must give the clerk his proper name and address for making transfers. All calves at side or born before the sale, will be registered at the seller s expense. All calves born after the sale are to be registered at the buyer s expense. There will be no AI certificates furnished with bred females. 4

We have not checked him for homozygous polled but all his calves have been polled, even out of horned cows. This bull will hand breed as he is halter broke and does not get excited when breeding. Gizmo will not lose weight in the breeding pasture.
