1 Family Fun for Everyone at the 2014 Mills County Fair July Magic Show, New schedule, new activities, and new entertainment. The 2014 Mills County Fair has a new schedule that offers a greater variety of activities for the family! Saturday and Sunday will be full of entertainment and competitions for all ages. The fair opens with the FREE BARBECUE and magic show on Friday evening, July 18, and ends with the Hypnotist Rick Bultez on Tuesday, July 22. All events are open to the public. Day events are free, and entry into Saturday, Sunday and Monday evening events is $10.00 per person. 4-H and FFA shows begin on Friday morning with the dog obedience classes at 8:30 a.m. The final event is the Livestock Auction on Tuesday, beginning at 4:00 p.m. A complete schedule of 4-H and FFA shows and events, and Open Class & Contest entry information is available at the ISU/Mills County Extension & Outreach website: or the Mills County Fair Face Book. Friday, July 18 Barbecue and Comedy Magician The annual Mills County Fair Barbecue will be held on Friday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Block Building at the Fairgrounds in Malvern. Thanks to the Mills County Fair Board and generous donations from the citizens and businesses of Mills County, this delicious meal is provided at no charge. Admission to the fairgrounds is also free. Joe Cole, comedy magician, will be doing strolling magic during the barbecue. He will then perform a live stage show in the show arena at 6:45 p.m. This magic show includes lots of audience participation and live animals. Come and see why he received the most original act award in New York City in a National Competition! Senior 4-H Members to be Recognized Graduating 4H members will be recognized in the Show Arena following the Joe Cole Magic Show. Mills County Fair Queen Crowning Contestants will be judged before the fair, and this contest will culminate with the crowning of the 2014 Mills County Fair Queen. The crowning will take place at the Show Arena at 8:00 p.m. New this year will be the crowning of Lil Miss Mills County Fair and Junior Miss Mills County Fair Queen. Saturday, July 19 Open Class Exhibits Preschool youth through adults are invited to enter their workmanship in the many different areas of Open Class Competition. Divisions include Fruits and Vegetables, Flowers, Quilting, Clothing, Art, Hobbies, Crafts, Photography, Pantry and Culinary. Bring your exhibits to the Open Class building between 8:00 a.m. and noon on Saturday. Judging takes place that afternoon, and items are on display through the rest of the fair week. Entry is free. Open Class Fair books are available at area banks and post offices, and on-line.

2 Baby Contest Mills County Fair is seeking contestants for the 2014 Mills County Fair Baby Contest, which will be held on Saturday, July 19, 10:00 am in the Obrecht Commons. Registration begins at 9:30 am and the contest will begin at 10:00 a.m. No late entries accepted. Age categories include: 0-5 months, 6-12 months, and months. Future Mills County Fair Queen and Little Mr. Mills County Fair (dressy attire); Miss Summer Fun and Mr. Summer Fun (beach/swimwear); and Sweetest Smile (ease of smile for the judges). Parent(s) of the participant must be a Mills County resident. Age categories are based on the age of the child at the time of the contest. No registration will be accepted after the start of the judging group. For more information, contact Jessica Burdic, Open Class Pet Show Youth are invited to bring a pet for the Pet Show in the Lee Dinklage Show Arena on Saturday, July 19 th at 1:00 p.m. All pets will be judged as the youth discusses the animal with the judge. Participants will receive ribbons. The pet should be on a leash or in a carrier. Ugly Cake Contest Use your imagination and design a cake to win the honor of being the creator of the ugliest cake in Mills County. Entries are due in the Obrecht Commons building between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Goat Obstacle Course Come and experience the agility and prowess of goats as they maneuver through a fun obstacle course in the Show Arena. This event will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Entertainment Under the Tent- Saturday and Sunday New this year! Local talent will be highlighted from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on the fair grounds. Come and be entertained by music artists who will be covering everything from big band, country and folk, and the music of the 70 s and 80 s. Entertainers in the line up include: Arnie Heitoff, Deb Sladovnic, Brendan Juarez & Ryan LaViolette, and John Scherle. The Yume Dance Studio will also be performing. Other activities in the tent offer hands-on workshops for all ages. Make a t-shirt bag, learn how to explore the water through the Sea Perch robotics demonstration, and take home your own hand made felted wool or quilting piece. Bingo- Saturday and Sunday Bring your friends and challenge them to a game of Bingo at the fair! Sit and relax while playing a few games of Bingo in the Obrecht Commons from 2:00 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The cost is 25 cents per card per game. Please join us for afternoons of fun and entertainment. Wild and Mild Cook Off The Mills County Farm Bureau and the Sure Shots 4-H Club are sponsoring a Wild & Mild Cookoff at the Mills County Fair on Saturday. This cookoff is open to all youth and adults as long as each team consists of at least one 4H member. Up to 20 teams of up to three members can register by July 10 th. A mandatory Cooks meeting will be held at 11:00 a.m. Cooking can begin at 12:00 noon, and judging begins at 6:30 p.m. Please see website for full set of rules. Judging will be conducted by judges selected by Farm Bureau. Judging and sampling by the public will begin at 7:00 p.m. The public can obtain one ticket per family member by giving a

3 free-will donation and then use the tickets to vote on their favorite dish. All donations will be applied to the new Fair Community Building. Dog Agility and Challenge Competition 4-H members will guide their dogs as they show off their skills in completing jumps, going through tunnels and other obstacles during the Dog Agility Competition. This is a fun event to watch! Tractor and Truck Pull Two powerhouse pulling associations have been sanctioned to conduct the Truck and Tractor Pulling event this year. The Nebraska Truck and Tractor Pullers Association and the Nebraska Power Pullers Association are joining forces to provide a full slate of competition at the fair. There will be four truck classes, including 2wd s, 4 x 4 s and Diesels. The four tractor classes will include Super stocks, Pro-stocks and 466 Limited Pro-stocks. This will prove to be a great evening of entertainment. This event will be held at the grandstands beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 per child (10 & under). Wristband passes are honored. For information about truck and tractor entry and rules, contact Ryan, , or Brad, S & R Pony Rides Saturday and Sunday Pony rides will be available to youth from 9:00 a.m until 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 3:00-8:30 p.m. grounds on Sunday. Rides are $2.00 each. This activity will be located near the horse arena on the fair grounds. Sunday, July 20 Fun Run Run through a tree lined canopy on the beautiful Wabash Trace Nature Trail while participating in one the area s longest running events. Experienced and novice runners will enjoy this extension of the Mills County Fair. Meet at the Malvern Community Building before 8:00 a.m. to participate in the 5K or 10K run. Light breakfast items will be served after the service. Country Critters Display of live reptiles, amphibians and other animals. Come and meet the animals, up close and personal. Country Critters will be located near the block building from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Children s Pedal Pull The children s pedal pull will be held Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The contest will be held in the Show Arena on the south side of the fair grounds. There will be 5 classes in the pull for 3-4 years old, 5-6 years old, 7-8 years old, 9-10 and years old. Registration for this event is at the fairgrounds prior to the event and admission is free. Come join the fun of watching the children compete for the championship trophies.

4 Kiddie Parade and Coloring Contest The Kiddie Parade at the Mills County Fair will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Show Arena Contestants are to register at the arena from 2:30-3:00 p.m. Categories include: characterizations, decorated bicycles, TV programs, storybooks, famous person, song title, comics, commercials or movies. Pet categories include: prettiest pet or most unusual pet. First through third places will receive prizes and all participants will receive a ribbon. Contestants must be 11 years of age and under to participate. This activity is free. Coloring Contest winners will be announced at this time. Hands-on Activities for Kids 4H members will be offering hands-on, make-and-take-it activities through their working exhibits, 3:00-4:30 on Sunday, in the Block Building. Poppin Penelope of the Balloon Brigade Children will line up to get their favorite balloon shape or character from 4:30 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. A POP artist...witness one of the most talented balloon artists in the country. Poppin' Penelope knows how to bring latex to life! Armed with the latest in balloon twisting technologythe all electric Inflata-Tron and dressed in her unique nineteen-fifties flair, Penny can twist whatever you can imagine! Ranch Rodeo- Mutton Bustin Greased Pig The Ranch Rodeo is back! This is not your typical rodeo. Watch teams of cowboys compete in fast riding roping events that showcase the skills that ranch hands use daily. Events such as wild cow milking, team sorting, calf roping, and trailer loading will keep spectators entertained. Want to register your own team of four riders? Contact Mills County Extension for information, Registration deadline is July 19 th, or when all slots are filled. In addition to the Ranch competition, youth ages 5-7 (and weighing under 55 pounds) can put their name in a drawing for an attempt to ride a sheep in the Mutton Bustin event. Female adults 18 and older can pay $5.00 to participate in the greased pig competition. Each category winner will receive $ To complete the rodeo event, youth ages 10 and under can compete for trophies and ribbons in the Stick Horse Races. Monday, July 22 Breakfast sponsored by Heartland Coop- 7:00 a.m., Show Arena Kids Karnival and Frisbee Contest The Mills County 4-H Clubs will provide free games and activities on Monday, from 1:00 2:30 p.m. near the Block Building. Guided tours of the livestock barns will also be provided. Play games, win prizes, get wet and have fun! A Frisbee contest will also be held at 2:00 p.m. Three age groups will compete: 6 and under, 7-9 years old and years. Participants will receive prizes. Register near the block building at 1:45 p.m.

5 Figure 8 Races and Demo Derby -Two for the Price of One! Local thrill seekers will be convening at the Mills County Fairgrounds on Monday, July 21 st to test their skills in the Figure 8 Races and Demo Derby. This two-for-one night of competition will begin at 7:30 p.m with the qualifying rounds of the Figure 8 Racing. Demo Derby contests will follow, and the final rounds of each will wrap up a fun night of speed and excitement. General Admission to this event is $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per child (10 and under). Wristband passes are honored. Entry fee is $30.00 for one driver and one pit crewmember. Additional pit passes may be purchased for $ All drivers and pit persons MUST sign a liability waiver. No children under 16 years old will be allowed in the pits. Check-in is from 3:00 pm 6:00 pm. Rules may be picked up at any auto repair or parts store in Mills County or by Gregg Schoening, or Brad Klindt, Tuesday, July 22 Breakfast sponsored by Mills County Farm Bureau, 6:30 a.m. Pie Baking Contest Get out your favorite pie recipe and rolling pin, fire up the oven, and show off your baking skills. Enter your pie in the Pie Baking Contest sponsored by Mills County Farm Bureau. Grand prize is $100! Pies should be entered at the Block Building on the fair grounds between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. See Open Class fair book for complete rules. Round Robin Showmanship Contest New this year! Watch the top showman in four different animal species exhibit their skills as they vie for overall showmanship champion. Each youth will be tasked with demonstrating showmanship in beef, sheep, swine and goats. This contest will take place in the show arena following the presentation of trophies and awards, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Premium Auction/4-H Pie Auction A Premium Auction for the 4-H exhibitors who have shown market livestock will be held on Tuesday, July 22 nd. The auction will be held in the Lee Dinklage Show Arena on the fairgrounds beginning at 4:00 p.m. Individuals and businesses are invited to attend the auction to support Mills County 4-H ers. During the auction, individuals and businesses will also have the opportunity to support the 4-H Endowment fund by bidding on pies from the 4-H Pie Contest. A representative from each 4-H club will bake a pie to be auctioned. Money from the sale of 4-H pies will be used for scholarships to help 4-H members attend camps, conferences and post high school programs. The attendance and support of merchants and interested individuals at the auction is always appreciated. The support of auction bidders continues to make this a successful event for 4-H members. He is a certified Hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotists. His shows

6 are inventive, engaging as well as comedic. Rick tailors each show to the audience, making every show original and dynamic for all age groups. This free event will be held in the Show Arena at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and will conclude the activities at the 2014 Mills County Fair. 4-H Events and Shows will take place throughout the week. ISU/Mills County Extension, Exhibit Release All youth and adult exhibits will be released at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Admissions The Mills County Fair Board will sell passes (wristbands) to any interested individual. This pass will allow entrance to the fairgrounds whenever paid admission is required. (Saturday, Sunday and Monday evenings). Wristband passes are $20.00 each. Single admission to the three evening events shown above are $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per child (10 & under), per event.
