If you need it sooner, I will it by request. Enroll & Pay Dues by December 31st The 4-H enrollment deadline is December 31st for returning 4-H families. New families have until February 1st to enroll. Please go to 4honline.com and enroll early, so clubs and projects can get an early start. Remember the following deadlines: April 1: Last day to add a project June 1: Last day to drop a project Dec. 31st: Enroll and pay dues for returning families Feb. 1: Last day to enroll & pay dues for new families Dues are still $15 for up to 3 projects without the Horse or motorcycle/atv project and $17 for projects that include Horse or Motorcycle/ATV. Those taking more than 3 projects, must pay an additional $3 per project. Horse & motorcycle leaders must pay $4.00 for dues, as insurance is required and is slightly more than other projects. All other leaders still pay just $3 for dues, which provides leaders with 4-H Insurance coverage too. Can t make it into the Extension Office to pay your dues? You can mail a check to Bonner Co. 4-H to: Bonner County Extension/4-H 4205 North Boyer Sandpoint, ID Note: The reason for the December 31 enrollment deadline for returning families is because 4-H members are now covered by our insurance program through Dec. 1st. In the past, insurance coverage used to end on Sept. 30th, but now, everyone remains covered through early December and if everyone re-enrolls and pays dues by Dec. 31, we have a very small window of time without insurance coverage just a few weeks instead of a few months. 1 1st Club, Council and Committee Financial Audits due 3rd 4-H Leader Appreciation Banquet/Ponderay Event 6 PM 12th Veteran s Day Holiday 12th KYG Applications Due Thanksgiving Holiday, Extension Office Closed 29th 4-H Enrollment Open House/5-7 Extension December 2018 Dec th: Christmas Holiday Observed, Extension Office closed 31st Last day for returning 4- H Families to enroll and pay dues January st New Year Holiday 8th HLC mtg. 5:30 PM 9th MALC mtg. 6:30 PM 14th 4-H Leaders Council Meeting at 6:30 PM 21st MLK Holiday/Office Closed February 2019 * 1st Last day to enroll and pay dues for new 4-H Families in order to complete a project for the Fair * 2nd 4-H Horse Bowl * 9th Super Saturday Leader Training at the UI Sandpoint Orchard * 16th 18th: KYG Conference in Boise. 2 2019 Bonner County Fair Dates - Two weeks later in 2019 I know it seems to soon to think about the County Fair, but I wanted to let all of our 4-H families know the 2019 Fair dates have changed! The Bonner County Fair Board decided at their September meeting to change the dates of the 2019 Fair to the 3rd week in August, which is nearly 2 weeks later than the last few years. The Bonner County Fair will be held from August 21st- 24th in The Fair theme for 2019 is The Bounty of the County. Exciting News The Sandpoint Organic Orchard is now a University of Idaho Facility The University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences has established a new presence in Sandpoint and Bonner County with the acquisition of the Sandpoint Orchard. The 48-acre property was acquired by U of I through a donation from Dennis Pence of Sandpoint and his family. He established the organic orchard to demonstrate agricultural opportunities in North Idaho. It will be known as the Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center and be the first in the U of I system to focus on organic farming and organic-certified production systems. The center will expand the ability to conduct community-focused programs and offer new ways to enhance undergraduate and graduate education as well as 4-H education. This is truly an exciting educational asset in our County. This year, Bonner and Boundary County will use the Orchard Facility for our Super Saturday 4-H Leader Training (see page 3 for more). Extension Forestry Courses and Master Gardeners will also be held at the Sandpoint Orchard. Attention Seniors 4-H College Scholarship Deadline is December 1st! College Scholarship application forms are available on the State 4-H website which is at: Deadlines for scholarships are Dec. 1, Scholarship options include O.M. Plummer, Avista North Idaho, Idaho Friends of 4-H, Lillian Jeanette Craig Memorial, Roy and Mamie Jones, Johannessen Leadership and Ruth Johannessen Shane. One of our Bonner County 4-H members received the $500 Avista College Scholarship in 2017 maybe this year it will be you. 2
3 In The Spotlight: New Bonner County 4-H Bee Keeping Project The Hoodoo Hustler Club will offer a Bee Keeping Project this year. The project leaders will be Lisa Hollett and Mark Earls. Please contact the Extension Office if interested in the Bee Keeping Project to see if space is still available, as the project will be limited to 5-6 participants for the first year. Bee Keeping is now a new 4-H Project offered through UI Extension. Super Saturday 4-H Leader Training & Enrichments on 2/9/2019 All new 4-H leaders must complete the 3 hour New Leader Orientation, which will be offered at Super Saturday, on February 9, This year Bonner and Boundary County will co-host the Super Saturday leader training for all Bonner and Boundary 4-H leaders. Super Saturday will be held at the newly acquired Sandpoint Organic Orchard, which is truly a beautiful facility, located just a half mile north of the Bonner County Extension Office. Super Saturday is for all 4-H leaders not just new leaders and UI Extension encourages all 4-H leaders to complete at least 2 hours of training per year. Not all of the workshops/trainings have been confirmed, but tentative topics include the following: New Leader Orientation (Required for all New Leaders) Quality Assurance Training for Livestock Leaders and youth Removing Tears and Fears From the 4-H Record Book How to Run a 4-H Club and Successful Meetings The Art of Giving Oral Reasons Mastering the Livestock Sales Talk Livestock Feeds, Nutrition and Rate of Gain Fun Activities for Cloverbuds & Younger children * REMEMBER: All Leaders must complete Protecting Minors annually, through 4-H Online. The background check with Verified Volunteers is now done for all new leaders and for returning leaders every 3 years. SHOOTING SPORTS TRAINING Bonner County 4-H is always looking for volunteers to lead the everexpanding projects associated with shooting sports. Unlike most other projects, this set of projects requires volunteers to participate in a specific training event. This event is usually held every year in the spring and is usually in Coeur d Alene. This year the training is tentatively scheduled for mid-april. If you are interested in signing up for this training, please contact the Extension Office at for the details. We should know the actual dates soon. We have members interested in the 4-H Hunting project. Let me know if you are willing to complete the training to lead hunting. 3
