3 Welcome to the 16th Annual Family Tradition Bull Sale First and foremost whether you are a new customer or long term partner, thank-you for taking the time to look through our catalogue and for considering a High Bluff Stock Farm bull as your next herdsire. To meet the variety of our customer needs we have on offer yearlings and two year olds, easy calvers and performance bulls in both the Charolais and Simmental breeds. No matter their age or colour all have been selected for disposition, hair and sound structure. This year has been an exciting year for the Canadian beef industry with the signing of the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) that gains Canadian beef further access to numerous significant markets, such as Japan. High quality Canadian beef is in hot demand, and that demand is expected to grow, what an exciting time to be in our industry! We had a wonderful time on the show road this year as always getting to connect with fellow beef producers. At Ag-Ex we were humbled to receive Premier Breeder and Exhibitor on the Charolais side and to have stood out alongside a great set of cattle in the Champion Heifer and Bull Calf classes at the National Simmental Show. EGC Red Lashes, off of the 2 year old bull Driller, was the Champion in the Little Lady Classic and also brought home a banner from the Agribition Simmental Show - we are excited to say the least about this new herdsire. On the family front we were blessed to welcome two grandchildren over the last year, a joy that is certainly hard to put into words. We are honoured to have our family engaged in agriculture either on the farm or out in industry. Our operation just wouldn t be the same without their hard work and dedication. All bulls will be examined, scrotal measured, semen tested and palpated by a licensed veterinarian prior to the sale. 5 Sales Management Comments The High Bluff name goes synonymously with a quality product, as good as is offered within the bull sale business. The family s passion for agriculture and being trailblazing Ag-vocates is well documented with their efforts, as a voice for fellow agriculture producers, through their attendance at conferences, hosting delegations and the girls working off farm in agriculture related fields that are driven to the betterment of farmers and ranchers. The cattle, crops and comaraderie are their lifelines for existence! I can attest to the impressiveness of the cowherd from summer pasture tours at High Bluff and I believe that you can t fully appreciate the full genetic quality of the bulls offered for sale until one has had this experience. On the Charolais side of things, matching with this great cowbase, herdbulls have been a serious acquisition process and you will see that nearly all the Charolais Bulls on offer are sired by the herdsires that the Jacksons have sourced or were past high sellers in this sale or thru an exclusive semen package opportunity. This year s sale is strongly represented by the Father/Son duo of Triumph 2135 & Triumph 50B (affectionately known as Cook ). As you work your way thru the bull pen, I m sure you ll see a common denominator in that you will be marking many of the Cooks and Triumphs! If you are looking for a bit more convenience with calving ease, check out the Broncos. In each of their own respective sale years, Casanova and Zorro were high sellers and have some top sons incorporated. The two herdsires sourced out of the fantastic Northern Alberta cowherd of Kay-R Charolais, Flurry and Testament, will be bulls that will be backed by one of the most eye appealing, good uddered and uniform Charolais cowherds in Canada! For those of you that have had the economic fortune to own poundmaking sons of HD in the past, a couple more will be available this year along with a couple sons of Escobar who has really clicked in the past with the High Bluff cowherd. Now, moving into the Simmi bulls, more of an approach through the methods of A.I. has been taken to make these quality sire groups. Grand Fortune has the maternal values of Black Casino who also sired the foundation breed sire Black Joker, is in his DNA. The Red Bulls contain two sire groups that promote calving ease lines with the North Dakota bred Rambler and the former Edmonton Farmfair Supreme Champion Bull, Red Summit. The High Bluff breeding program is directed to making the best possible bulls for the commercial cattlemen but interestingly enough when they make the effort for some additional promotional benefits and head out to compete with their fellow breeders in the show ring, they are usually found atop of their respective classes and quite often when the dust settles they are hanging banners and posing in the champion photo area! Backed by front pasture type of cows 33C who goes back to 176W who is also the granddam of 173F. 33C and Fargo made quite the attractive pair this summer in the pasture. 7 3 HBSF 64B - dam FAIRMONT 118F PMC HBSF 118F February Fairmont is a top prospect in this powerful Triumph sire group, and one of our favorites in the pen. Check out his weaning and yearling weights, hard to beat those! Fairmont is impressive and possesses that herd bull presence. He has an excellent body type, is structurally correct, smooth but dense made, has an impressive top and hind quarter and is SUPER hairy. We had him in our Agribition show string where he was the Reserve Champion Junior bull calf. He has a great temperament and was quick to halter break. We ll tell you a couple times in this catalog that our HD cows raise some of our best herd bulls, and what a place to start! This pair has been a standout all year and in our eyes this bull keeps on getting better and better. His dam is a good-looking, good uddered cow that is part of the Stone Angel cow family. Her dam is 128W, one of our most consistent producing cows who has an Escobar bull in this years sale. A powerful herd bull in the making backed by some of our favorite and most consistent genetics along with curve bending yearling and weaning weights. He s one of our favorites with his depth of body, muscle shape, thick hair coat and good temperament. Fort Knox is backed by some of our favorite and most consistent herd builders: Triumph, HD and the Schatzi cow family backed by Hank. Hard to find a better genetic combination than this! His dam is a big bodied cow with a good udder, that has raised 3 high quality bulls for our previous bull sales working for Lonesome Eagle, Dean and Penny Vinell and John and Denise Van Eaton. We really don t think you can go wrong with a Triumph or a Cook son. We have used Triumph and Cook extensively in our herd and are very happy with the bulls, heifers and cows from this bloodline. Fawkes is a good looking, wide topped, deep sided bull out of a Bronco cow that goes back to our Buster cow family, (same as 11F). It is hard to beat the power, depth of quarter, and extra performance and growth of a Casanova son. Full Throttle offers all of these assets and has a great hair coat and lots of testicles. One of our favorite things about Casanova calves is their get up and go when they are born. It doesn t get much better than that. 12 HBSF El Paso 15E full brother FAMOSO 14F PMC HBSF 14F January Looks like she did it again! 4U cranked out another powerful herd sire candidate, a full brother to El Paso our $37,000 high seller from last year to Steppler Charolais. We sure think a lot of him and like him more each time we see him in the pen. He has that undeniable herd sire presence and a fantastic temperament. We really admire Famoso for his natural thickness, muscle expression, power and how he presents himself. We are also really impressed with how our first El Paso calves look. His dam, 4U, is a good looking, big bodied Original/Hank cow that has 2 attractive daughters working in our herd (one of which is 44A the dam of 141F) and has a good looking Casanova heifer calf at her side this year.
