Project 1: To build a roof with lighting over the swine wash rack, enabling use during extended hours and inclement weather. *The committee s goal is to complete this ahead of the 2018 fair week. Project 2: To install retractable awnings over the 3 west-side Coliseum doors, the side nearest the cattle/rabbit/poultry barns. 7 FOODS JUDGING CHANGES If you have taken a 4-H Foods & Nutrition project in the past, you brought to judging a prepared food, place setting, and daily menu along with your completed project book & project portfolio. THIS IS CHANGING! To be in line with state fair requirements, and more aware of food safety & sensitivities, Perry County is adjusting our county judging requirements. In short, members in foods projects should ONLY bring their completed project book AND a portfolio (folder or binder) with one page per activity or interest area. For specific details, check out the County Foods Judging Document posted at WHAT IS A SKILLATHON? Livestock Skill-a-thon is an opportunity for youth to complete a series of skill stations about their project animal during pre-fair judging. Our county offers skillathons for beef, dairy feeders, swine, sheep, goats, rabbits, poultry, and horses. Skillathons are offered during Special Interest judging, and are conducted on a first come first served basis. To earn the most points, youth should bring a completed livestock record book and be prepared to answer a few questions about their project animal. Potential skill station topics include: body parts/skeleton, breeds & traits, body conformation, meat cuts, diseases, feed ID/feed tags, medication labels & inserts, equipment & housing, etc. Participants are divided into age categories, with the top 5 in each age category receiving recognition at the fair 1 st place receives a medallion! Skillathon scores are also 1/3 of the total score for youth competing for Outstanding Market Exhibitor (more info about this contest is available on our website). Practice days are offered for skillathon at the Extension Office (practice at your own pace, staff will be available to answer questions) on June 11 & 12, 10am-3pm. No registration required. Insert photo/graphic here, or delete this box. Livestock Skill-a-thon kits can be borrowed by club advisors for member practice through June 1. Judging Details Still project judging & completion requirements, and other helpful resources, can be found online at: Special Interest & Skillathon Tuesday, June 19 th 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Dogs & Small Animals Wednesday, June 20 th 10:00 11:30 am *Dog class registration forms will be mailed in May to exhibitors! Food/Clothing/FCS Projects Wednesday, June 20 th 11:00 am - 4:00 pm Clothing Style Revue Wednesday, June 20 th 6:30 pm *Includes announcement of county rosettes and Ohio State Fair Reps! ALL pre-fair judging events take place at the Fairgrounds Coliseum. Grade ribbons will be distributed at judging. Schedules will be sent in late May. If, for any reason, you are not able to attend pre-fair judging, one of your club advisors may judge your project(s) so that you receive a grade and may exhibit at the fair. These projects are not eligible for county rosettes or other awards. ALL projects exhibited at the Perry County Fair are eligible to receive premiums, which are paid on the Friday & Saturday of fair week at the Senior Fair Board Office. 7
