1 4-H Headlines The 4-H Summer started out with an offering of more than 40 summer workshops and activities for all ages to enjoy. As quickly as it began, the summer passed by and all the fun came to an end. Justice Paul Newby Amanda Dickson Rebecca Peede, Amanda Dickson and Sharon Tyson spent a few days in Raleigh with the NC Legislatures where they learned about the state government, state budgets, appropriate etiquette, how to advocate, and how to develop an action plan for improving our local community. As part of this exciting opportunity, 4-H members attended various workshops, had dinner and a tour of the North Carolina History Museum, participated in an NC Spin session with a panel of representatives who spoke about and answered questions of 4-H members about current issues affecting North Carolina residents. They also attended a Legislative breakfast with our local state representatives, and visited the Legislative offices to meet with our Nash County Legislators and Senators.

4-H Congress is an exciting event held in Raleigh during the month of July where lots of activities and events happen in the life of a 4-H er.

On Tuesday, 4-H State Presentations take place and for those that do not participate in the presentation program, attend hands-on workshops.

Thursday is the final day of 4-H Congress, where State Officer Elections and District Officers are inducted and the evening concludes with the final banquet and

2 4-H Congress is an exciting event held in Raleigh during the month of July where lots of activities and events happen in the life of a 4-H er. It begins on Monday with several contests including Poultry Judging, AIRE (Application, Interview, Resume, & Essay) and 4-H Honor Club tapping. On Tuesday, 4-H State Presentations take place and for those that do not participate in the presentation program, attend hands-on workshops. Hands-to-Service is held on Wednesday where 4-H ers participate in community service projects throughout Wake County. Thursday is the final day of 4-H Congress, where State Officer Elections and District Officers are inducted and the evening concludes with the final banquet and dance. As an equine enthusiast, Wanda has shared her love and knowledge generously with the youth of North Carolina. It s no secret to those that know Wanda or meet her that she is a people person! She never meets a stranger and will always engage others! We want to congratulate Wanda for this great honor. Nash County 4-H Clubs The new 4-H Club year begins October 1. This is the time to get involved in all the different 4-H club opportunities as well as help your leaders with your 4-H club plan.

Other opportunities include running for a club or county council officer. Your 4-H club leader can help if you are interested. We are also looking to start new clubs and recruit new volunteers. There will never be enough words to express my gratitude to Nash County 4-H, Nash County staff, the 4-H Leaders Association, their families and the community for the fund raiser held in honor of my son-in-law Chris. $ was raised as a result of the car wash and hot dog benefit. Anyone can be a friend when things are going well, but TRUE FRIENDS are ones who rally during tough times. My heart has been touched in a way that I will never be able to share. My sincere thanks to Sandy Hall and everyone who organized, contributed, and worked to make this event possible.
