1 Scout Olympics 2016 Events- General Information on Events- All events will be open throughout the day allowing all scouts to participate in any event they wish, unless specified otherwise in the notes of the event. However, for the purpose of competition at an allotted time each event will hold their champion s game. This game will be between elected representatives of each troop present and will determine who gains the points for that event. Points: 1 st place earns your troop 3 points, 2 nd place 2 points, and 3 rd 1 point, all others earn no points. The points that each troop gains will be recorded and at the end of the night medals will be given out to the 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place troops, the medals are gold, silver, and bronze respectively. Staffing: Each event will be staffed by at least two scouts of Star rank or above and one leader of each troop; some troops will staff multiple events depending on the number of scouts that will attend. It is suggested that troops have some form of schedule set up to allow all scouts a chance to enjoy the events instead of simply being stuck staffing for several hours. The event each troop staffs is on a first come first serve basis, sign up for the events one week before the campout, troops that do not sign up will be given an event to staff. Events- Ultimate Frisbee: Two teams of five to six people compete to score points by completing a pass into the other team s goal area. This event will run all day with the champion s game being help directly after lunch. The champions game will be run single elimination tournament style with each troop having a team. Each game will be played to 5 points or for twenty minutes, whichever comes first. There will be finals to determine 1 st place and 2 nd as well as a 3 rd and 4 th place game with the losers from the semifinals. The staff of this event will serve as referees for the games. Know that their say is final as to not cause trouble. The refs can decide that your behavior is inappropriate and kick you out of the games as well as contact your adult leaders.

2 Knot Tying Race of Destiny: Scouts will compete to tie a series of knots in a row with the shortest time being the winner. Anyone is allowed to come to this event simply to practice knot work and younger scouts are encouraged to come to have their knot tying requirements signed off. There is no champion s game for this event, instead throughout the day anyone can attempt the race and have their troop and name recorded. The three people with the shortest times earn their troop the points for this event, revealed at the campfire. (It is possible for a troop to take multiple positions in this event if scouts of the same troop take multiple positions) Knots in the Race: Square knot, two half-hitches, and a taut-line hitch, bowline, sheet bend, clove hitch, and fisherman s knot. Staff of this event will serve as time keepers and helpers to younger scouts. First Aid Leg Race: Age Requirements: N/A Oh no some scouts have badly hurt their legs best to carry them to a safe location to await help! In this race teams of three, two helpful scouts and one hurt scout, will attempt to safely transport themselves one hundred feet before any other teams do. To do this teams must first treat their wounded friend with first aid by making a splint for the leg then they must use one of the various ways to safely transport their hurt scout one hundred feet to the finish line. Scouts are not only judged on time but on quality of their splint and the care they take in transporting their wounded friend. This events champion game will be held at 3:00 pm. Scouts can practice this event all day long if they wish but can also come to practice various first aid techniques to allow them. Younger scouts are also encouraged to attend to get first aid requirements signed off. Staff of this event are both judges and helpers to younger scouts.

3 Orienteering: This event will be an orienteering course that scouts can attempt. One course will be for the enjoyment and use of all scouts and the other is a harder challenge that will be used to gain the times for points. As such there is no champion s game for this event, instead each troop will have one attempt at the Champion s Hunt where the times will be recorded and the points will be rewarded at the campfire. Younger scouts can come to this event to practice orienteering skills and other skills related to travel and direction. Staff of this event are time keepers and helpers to younger scouts. Manly Man s Man Challenge: Age Requirement: 13 years old Other Requirements: Totin chip This challenge is designed to test a manly man s skill at being manly. Scouts will run, jump, saw logs, and saw logs while running. (Just kidding running with saws is against BSA and Totin chip law.) This event is similar to a pentathlon where five trials in rapid order will be presented to the scouts that wish to earn their chest hair. The challenge begins with a 50-yard sprint with a hiking pack, after which scouts do twenty push-ups and thirty sit ups. Once the warmup is over scouts grab their saws and saw one log. After this the manliest thing a man can do comes. Singing I m a Little Tea Pot at the top of their lungs, a real man knows humility. The champion s game of this event will be held bright and early directly after breakfast at 9:15 am once the events start. All younger scouts not yet of age or those scouts not wishing to brave the manliness of the challenge can use this time to practice their Totin chip skills and help get fire wood for that night s campfire. Staff of this event are in charge of maintaining axe yards and making sure no one loses a limb. Chili Cook-off: This is a special event that will be held Saturday s dinner. All troops will make a chili to present before the judges, the judges will be an adult representative from each troop. The winner of the chili cook-off will be given a special award and the normal three points. The top three will be revealed at campfire. This event runs parallel with the smoke-off for the adults.

4 Strike Off: Age Requirement: 13 years old Other Requirements: A strikers kit Teams of three will compete to create a small fire that they must light with flint and steel. The champion s game will be held at 3:30 pm in race format, the winner will be whose wood catches for five seconds after all the tinder is gone. (Birds nest will be provided) Throughout the day scouts can practice their fire building skills and also help collect firewood for the campfire. Staff for this event will be in charge of controlling fires and also building the fire that will be used for the campfire that night. Scout Theatre: This is a special event that will be held during campfire. Each troop will have to perform an original skit in front of all the scouts in attendance. Music numbers are also highly encouraged and may earn brownie points for the troop. This skit will be judged by the amount of applause it receives. All skits must be submitted before the campfire either through a script or through a prior performance of the skit to the campfire directors. Scout Trivia: Teams of three scouts work together to come up with answers to random scout related trivia. These questions could range from general know how about BSA or scout skills. The champion s game will be held at 2:30 pm and it will take place gameshow style. The host will ask questions and when a scout team has the answer they yell buzz and get ten seconds to answer the question. There will be twenty questions in the champion s game and each is worth one point, the three troops with the most points win the first, second, and third place for the event. Throughout the day younger scouts can come to the event to have requirements signed off that have to do with general scout knowledge. There will be a different set of questions for the champion s game than the regular play of the day. Staff of this event will be the host of the trivia gameshow, this can be as extravagant as necessary. Questions will be provided

5 Two Hand Touch Football: Age Requirement: None but be mindful of putting an eleven-year-old against a seventeen-yearold This event will run throughout the day with basic touch football rules. There is no champion s game for this event this event is simply recreational and for fun. Shirts vs Skins style with maximum people per team being ten. The staff of this event will serve as referees for the games. Know that their say is final as to not cause trouble. The refs can decide that your behavior is inappropriate and kick you out of the games as well as contact your adult leaders.
