The Coastal Carolina University men s outdoor track and fi eld team welcomes 1,400-plus athletes, representing 32 schools to the annual Coastal Carolina Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March The Chanticleers will race a select group this weekend in the throwing and distance events. Kyle Kling will run the 3000-meter event, which last year he won the event while breaking the school s record time in the event. 2 CLOCKING IN WITH THE CHANTS HUTCHISON S FAST START Breaking Records Senior Jack Hutchison not only won his event in 110-meter hurdles at the Battle of the Beaches VI, but he broke his own school record with a time of 14.10, by half a milisecodn from his time last seaosn at Hutchison also sits in a pretty second in the NCAA rankings. HACKER HACKS AWAY HIS TIME Personal Best in 3000 meter Junior Max Hacker ran a personal-best 8:50.95 in the 3000 meter, winning the event and helping the Chantcleers clinch the win over UNC Wilmington in the Battle of the Beaches VI with help from sophomore Kyle Kling running an 8:51.59 in second. FLANAGAN FLAUNTS IN JAVELIN Second only to All-American Jason Flanagan threw a personal-best by 17 feet with a toss of ranking No. 2 all-time at Coastal behind All-American Thomas Jordan who threw for his record breaking performance. Flanagan currently is No. 1 in the NCAA for his ground breaking performance at Battle of the Beach VI. CHANTICLEERS PARTICIPATE IN THREE INDOOR MEETS Memorable Performances HOKIE INVITE The men s track and fi eld team participated in the fi rst day of Virginia Tech Indoor Invitational on Friday, January 15 in Blacksburg, Va. The Chanticleers sent 14 athletes that weekend, with three placing in the top-15 on the fi rst day. Redshirt-junior Jacques Watson highlighted the day for the Chants by winning the high jump event with a mark of , tying a career-best in indoor. Senior Jack Hutchison had a great start to the season, placing eighth in a very competitive 60-meter hurdle fi nal with a time of In the weight throw, sophomore Jason Jensen had a team-best fourth- place fi nish with a throw of Sophomore Corey Jameson had a strong showing, running a 6.99 in the 60-meter dash to take a 15th-place fi nish out of 34 participants. Junior Ross Graves also participated in the event, jumping a SYKES-SABOCK CHALLENGE CUP The Coastal Carolina men s track and fi eld team fi nished ninth with six top-10 fi nishers in a highly competitive Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup on Saturday, Feb. 6. Jason Jensen highlighted the fi rst day by winning the weight throw, clearing a mark of Jensen beat his personal-best by nearly four feet. In the 60-meter hurdles, Jack Hutchison tied for third place with a time of Kyle Kling set a school record in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:34.58, fi nishing in 12th place. The Chanticleers distance relay team of John Heron, Travis Owens, Stevie Brunson and Kling took fi fth place with a 10:20.95 on the fi rst day. On the second day of competition, Jacques Watson placed second in the high jump, clearing Burton Jones led the Chants in the triple jump, placing sixth, CLEMSON TIGER PAW INVITATIONAL The Coastal Carolina men s track and fi eld team participated in the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational on Friday and Saturday Feb in Clemson, S.C. On the fi rst day of competition, the Chanticleers had 11 top-ten fi nishers and six in the top-fi ve. Highlighting day one was Jacques Watson winning the high jump, clearing Ross Graves placed ninth with a jump of Continuing success in the fi eld events, Jason Jensen threw for 58.8 in the weight throw, taking fourth place. In the long jump, Burton Jones grabbed ninth place with a jump of meters. In the running events, Jack Hutchison took third place in the fi nals of the 60-meter hurdles, running a time of Corey Jameson qualifi ed for the fi nals of the 60-meter dash and fi nished in fi fth place with a time of In the 500-meter dash, Stevie Brunson and Jacob Scheuer placed third and fourth, respectively. The distance medley relay squad was the highlight of the day as the team of Heron, Williams, Tymzcak and Kling took second place just behind Samford with a time of 10: The Chanticleers continued in the mid-distance relay events with Levy taking eighth place in the 300-meter dash with a time of In the fi eld portion of the day, Burton Jones took second in the triple jump with a leap of MEN S TRACK AND FIELD WINS BATTLE OF THE BEACHES VI Coastal Carolina University men s track and fi eld won the Battle of the Beaches VI over UNC Wilmington on Saturday, March 6 at the Coastal Carolina Track. The series between the two schools is tied up for three apiece. The Chanticleers also defeated The Citadel and Slippery Rock The Chanticleers clinched the win with Max Hacker and Kyle Kling taking fi rst and second in the 3000 meters, respectively. Hacker ran a personal-best 8:50.95 and Kling followed with 8: The Chants also were spurred when they swept the top three spots in the high jump and triple jump.
