2 MESSAGE FROM GIRLS ON THE RUN DEAR FRIENDS OF GIRLS ON THE RUN, The Girls on the Run 5k is a community celebration of the 700 3rd through 8th grade girls in South Louisiana who have completed the Girls on the Run program. Over the course of 10 weeks, the girls have learned to love themselves from the inside out. Their confidence comes from nurturing and honoring self, embracing differences and giving back to the community. The result - Joyful, Healthy, Confident girls who CAN! The 5k is not only a celebration of physical health, but also the girl s journey toward a life of positive emotional, social and mental well-being. THANK YOU for joining a community effort to encourage and inspire girls at a crucial age. We have been working diligently to bring you a well organized, fun and safe event. Parents and participants, please read through this event guide as it contains a lot of helpful and important information to make your experience the best it can possibly be. SUNDAY, MAY 6 PENNINGTON BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH CENTER 12:30pm 1pm Girls on the Run 5k Event Opens! Event day packet pickup Registration Tent Event day registration for $30 Registration Tent Inspiration Village Opens Visit each station for fun activities. 4 MESSAGE FROM GIRLS CHECKLIST ON THE RUN BEFORE GIRLS ON THE RUN 5K: Review event maps. Event is rain or shine! Check the latest forecast to prepare. Bring spending money. Girls on the Run merchandise is for sale. Cash, checks and major credit cards are accepted. Bring race bib & pins. You will receive bib at event day packet pickup if you did not attend packet pickup on Friday, May 4. Wear your Girls on the Run 5k shirt. If you have not picked up your packet, you will pick up your shirt at the event. Wear sneakers. If there is a concern for rain, boots or plastic bags over shoes are great ideas for before and after the 5k. Get a good night s sleep! Leave early to avoid traffic. Eat a good lunch & breakfast before the 5k event. AT GIRLS ON THE RUN 5K: For our girls: Find your team and check-in with your coach. Visit the Inspiration Village stations and participate in Zumba warmup. Remember to use the port-a-lets before the 5k begins. Head to the starting line & run, walk, hop, skip or jump to the finish line! All registered participants may enjoy a celebratory jambalaya plate.

6 MESSAGE FROM GIRLS EVENT ON ETIQUETTE THE RUN SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR OUR RUNNERS: Please be courteous at the start line. We ask that participants with strollers start toward the back. Always let other participants pass during the course. Move to the side if you need to stop or walk. Be aware of your surroundings and always listen to event volunteers, police, and medical assistance. Keep moving through the finisher s chute after you cross the finish line. FOR OUR SPECTATORS: Please do not cross the path of any runner throughout the course and at the finish. Always listen to our event volunteers, police, and medical assistance. For the safety of our participants, volunteers and spectators please do not block or enter the finisher s chute for any reason.

7 FREQUENTLY MESSAGE FROM ASKED GIRLS QUESTIONS THE RUN SCHEDULE OF EVENTS What is packet pickup? When/where do I need to go? Packet pickup is held in Baton Rouge at the Girls on the Run South Louisiana Warehouse from 3pm-6pm on Friday, May 4. Packet pickup is also available on event day from 12:30pm-1:30pm at the registration tent. At packet pickup you will receive a bag that includes your bib number, safety pins, 5k t-shirt and other information. If you are a Girls on the Run/Heart & Sole participant, your coach will pick up the team packets. She will either distribute the packet items at practice before the 5k or on event day. Please contact your coach if you have questions. Can I sign up to participate on event day? Yes! Late registration is offered on Friday, May 4 & on Sunday, May 6 from 12:30-1:30pm. The fee is $35 payable by cash, check or credit card. Can someone else pick up my bib & shirt? Yes. Someone else can pick up your bib and shirt. Is the Girls on the Run 5k timed? The Girls on the Run 5k is an untimed event. However, there will be a timing clock at the finish line. Is the Girls on the Run 5k for girls only? No. The event is open to the public and we encourage men, women and children of all ages to attend and participate.

8 FREQUENTLY MESSAGE FROM ASKED SCHEDULE QUESTIONS GIRLS OF THE (cont d) EVENTS RUN Can I run with a jogging stroller? Yes! We just ask that you begin at the back of the starting line pack and be mindful of others while on the course. Will there be medical assistance at the event? Yes. We will have medical volunteers available under the registration tent. Please find the nearest volunteer if you need medical assistance. I registered but I cannot make the run, can I get a refund? Unfortunately, we are unable to process any refunds. All registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. I have additional questions, who can I contact? 9 IMPORTANT INFORMATION LOST AND FOUND The lost and found will be located at the registration tent. Please ask a volunteer for assistance if you are looking for a lost item or need to turn in a found item. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY Medical volunteers will be present for the 5k event under the registration tent. Please locate the nearest volunteer in case of an emergency. In case of emergency or important updates, we will communicate via and social media. PARKING Please enter the Pennington Biomedical Research Center from the Perkins Rd entrance. There are several open parking lots on the facility grounds. You must also exit onto Perkins Rd. Irene Drive will be closed for the duration of the event for the safety of our participants and volunteers. If you are a coach or parent dropping off a school tent, please see the map for the tent drop-off location. You may enter on Kenilworth Pkwy to drop off tent and park your car. The tent drop-off will close at 12:45pm. WEATHER POLICY 5k participants should be prepared to run in any weather. The 5k event will take place rain or shine unless there are conditions that may affect the safety and health of the participants. If dangerous weather conditions occur, race officials will determine if a delayed start is possible. In the event of cancellation, refunds will not be issued. The event will not be rescheduled. In the event of a cancellation, Girls on the Run South Louisiana Staff and Board of Directors will work with team coaches to ensure that every girl has an opportunity to accomplish her 5k goal and receive her finisher s medal.
