Stage 1 - Draw Exercise This stage demonstrates constructing an underlying cube and then exploring only using planes. Iíve made 3 different explorations using variation of line to show the thickness of each plane. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 1

Stage 2 - Sketch Model As a group of three, we were given a piece of foam core and had to separate the piece into 4 equal parts. Then we had to plan out how we were going to divide our own piece into 2 more equal pieces and construct a form. Once that was done we passed our pieces to another group member to cut out and follow our plans, which then received a class review. planning out planar cuts and final model final model cut & assembled by partner kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 2

Stage 3 - Attributes & Metaphors In a group with a partner, we were told to brainstorm attributes and metaphors for our chosen mechanical object. My object is a Canon Rebel T6i DSLR camera. The attributes are about the size, texture, colour etc, such as medium sized, ergonomic, black, etc. A few metaphors include takes in light, captures life, saving memories. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 3

My Object Canon Rebel T6i DSLR Camera kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 4

Stage 4 - Draw Beginning Stages The first step was to create my object in illustrator using the 3D tools to extrude the object and make it into a wireframe. This allowed me to use the wireframe under my pages in order to construct planes accurately compared to the actual form. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 5

I traced the form underneath and made 3 other forms demonstrating the object using planes. These explorations were used to make the first model of my object. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 6

mid-process shot of building the first model using white foam core kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 7

Stage 5 - Planning Models First model of my camera. This version has no alterations from the object, it was made to get used to model building and demonstrate my process from paper to form. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 8

At this part of the process I began playing with form and a metaphor for my camera. These drawings shows how light/information goes into the camera, and comes back out displayed on an LCD screen. The following images are concepts for alterations I can make for my next model. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 9

kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 10

kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 11

Stage 6 - Colour Mock up At this stage I added colour to show how the lighter parts, start out lighter with the yellow and the transition to red as it goes on for darker. I also used colour to demonstrate pressure levels, for example, on main camera body the top is red where the capture button would be pressed. The most pressure is red, and then transitions to yellow for least. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 12

working on the second model, this time involving paint for the colour aspect kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 13

Second model with colour and a few alterations demonstrating information coming into the camera and out again on the LCD screen. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 14

kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 15

Stage 7 - Refinement My final process plans based off of class critique. Iíve added a few more altercations, which include making the circles for the lense have holes that represent aperture and Iíve added RGB squares to the back to show data being collected. kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 16

model pieces of illustration board after being cut with a laser cutter kelsey ketcheson - planar interpretations - 17
