2 Thank you for the purchase of the Miss Mayflower, this new exciting craft will give you fun on many types of terrain including snow, gravel, pavement, grass, water, and when you think it is all done, lower the elevons and watch it soar into the air. The Miss Mayflower is a similar version of Mike and Ernest's Miss Fanfold, also known as Hydro Foam. Not only do we have pictures, but we also have a video of this phenomenon with many more to come. Aerobatics are extremely easy to achieve, and because that they are made of foam we can keep the cost very low for you. Our kit includes the following: All Foam Motor mount Carbon Skid plates (optional) Carbon Reinforcement Rods (optional) Step by step instruction manual To build our kit, you need following: Hot glue gun w/glue Clear Packing Tape Silicon zip tie razor blade Paint (optional) Foam safe CA (optional) To run our kit after you have built it you will need the following: Radio (suggested JR 8103, or any elevon mixing controller) Receiver (requires 4 or more channels, and recommended to be a micro receiver) Speed Control (requires 25 amp) Motor (suggested Himax Out Runner or better) 3 Micro Servos Push Rods Control Horns and other miscellaneous small materials to connect servos to control horns Please keep in mind that this is an advanced RC aircraft, beginners should learn on an easier 3D foam aircraft first. 4 Step 1. Draw two lines at the bow and aft of your Miss Mayflower as illustrated on Fig Use Razor knife to cut carbon depth into foam Use the carbon edge to clean out the cut and widen to thickness of the carbon shown in figure 1.2 Place carbon into the new cuts of the foam as illustrated in Fig 1.3 Run a thin bead of hot glue across carbon to hold in place After glue dries, place a piece of clear packing tape to help secure the carbon in place Figure 1.1 Figure 1.2 Figure 1.3

5 Step 2. Now is the time to install the sponson on to the Miss Mayflower Place the #2 part into the slots provided on the main deck, and hot glue part to the deck from the inside. See illustration in fig. 2.1 Here is a great time to use the silicone to seal the sponson. See illustration in fig. 2.2 Before the silicone dries, place part number 5 in the provided groves and hot glue as illustrated in fig 2.3 Again silicone part number 5 on the inside and get ready for part number 7 Place part number 7 in the pre cut slots and hot glue to the deck. (Continued) Glue part number 8 (sponson rail bottom) to the bottom of the sponson as shown in fig. 2.5 Glue part number 11 (sponson side) to the deck of the boat as shown in fig. 2.6 Attach part number 12 (front sponson bottom) to the bottom of the sponson as shown in fig. 2.7 Repeat step 2 for the other side. 7 Step 3. Attach 14 and 15 with hot glue and silicon as illustrated in figure 3.1 Trim the excess foam off the tip on number 15 from the bottom hatch side as illustrated in figure 3.2 Attach 16 and 14 with hot glue and silicon as illustrated in figure 3.1 Trim the excess foam off the tip on number 16 from the bottom hatch side as illustrated in figure 3.3 Hot glue all seams inside the bottom hatch Then seal all seams with silicone Trim part number 17 to fit on the inside of the walls of number 15 and 16 or, if you wish you may leave it to fit on the outside Attach part number 17 to the rear of the bottom hatch and seal with silicone. As in figure 3.4 o NOTE: Do not attach bottom hatch to the deck yet, this will be done during radio assembly. Figure 3.1 Figure 3.2 Figure 3.3 Figure 3.4

8 Step 4. Attach all upper hatch top, part numbers 18, 19, and 20 with tape. See figure 4.1 o Please note that part number 20 s dimensions are 1 3/4 wide x 4 7/8 long. Do not confuse this with the back of the bottom and top hatches. The back of the hatches (part number 17 and 23) are 1 5/8 wide x 4 1/4 long. Attach part number 22 to the top hatch parts. You must start at part number 20 and align up to part number 18. o NOTE: Do not glue part number 22 to part number 19. Part number 19 is an access panel for your electronics. Roll part number 22 around part 18 and trim the foam just like in step 3 as illustrated in figure 4.2 Repeat on the other side, and take care not to glue the access panel, so you have entrance to the electronics Remove tape from the top 3 hatch pieces, and glue inside. o NOTE: Just like step 3, do not attach this hatch assembly to the deck yet, this will be done during radio assembly. If you wish, you may optionally install a balsa wood lip on the access panel for added support as shown in figure 4.3 Trim part number 23 to fit (your preference) to fit snugly on the inside or outside of the rear hatch assembly. 9 Step 5. Starting with the elevons and make a 45 degree bevel along one of the longest edges on all four elevons. See illustration figure 5.1. Using the clear packing tape, tape two elevons to the rear stabilizer and two elevons to the rear of the deck. As illustrated in figure 5.2 Now by flipping the elevons up tape the back side as well As illustrated in figure 5.3 Repeat the same taping procedure on the main deck for the elevons Make the same 45 degree bevel along one of the long sides of both rudders. See figure 5.1 Repeat the same taping procedure on the vertical stabilizer with the rudders. See figure 5.3 Assemble vertical and horizontal stabilizers and hot glue slots. See figure 5.4 Assemble the Elevon/rudder assembly to the main deck and hot glue joints See figure 5.5 Finish off the remainder of the foam build by attaching the sponson ends with hot glue. 10 Step 6. (Electronic Installation) Elevon servo installation. See figure 6.1, attach servos to the bottom of the deck with push rods connecting the lower elevons. Cut slots into rear back hatch so push rods will extend through the rear hatch. See Figure 6.2 Cut down, and glue the slots that came out of the rear hatch to help with water control. Rudder servo installation. Install rudder control horn 1 from bottom of rudder. See figure 6.3 Protrude the rudder servo push rod through the top of the deck in front of the rear carbon reinforcement strip. Hot glue push rod sleeve to the upper deck. See figure 6.3 Install rudder servo as displayed in figure 6.4 Punch hole beside the rudder servo for servo wires to gain access to the top of the deck Mount speed control to the side of the far frontal top hatch. If water were to gain access of this location, mounting this to the side would prevent water damaging the speed control. Cut notch into the front of the hatch for the motor wire exit. 11 Step 7. (Coupling Control Services) Cut slots into elevons and rudders at the midpoint. Attach coupling rods from the bottom elevons to the top elevons using ¾ pieces of zip ties as hard points. Attach coupling rods from the rudder to the other rudder using zip ties as well as hard points. See figure 7.1 Figure 7.1

12 Step 8. (Continuing Electronics) Mount receiver to the side of the upper hatch underneath the access panel so you may plug the servo connectors in to the receiver. Attach the bottom hatch and seal with hot glue and silicone to prevent water from entering. Attach the top hatch and seal with hot glue and silicone to prevent water from entering. Hot glue angled motor mounts to the end of the wood mount. As illustrated in figure 8.1 Hot glue angled motor mounts to the front top hatch with a slight angle to the right to counter for motor torque. As illustrated in figure 8.2 Figure 8.1 Figure 8.2

13 Step 9. Attach carbon Fiber/Kevlar skid plates to the rear and front sponsons, see figure 9.1 Seal up any seams with silicone that may gain water during operation. Now you have the option to paint with any foam safe paint to your liking. Attach motor, range check and enjoy flying your new Miss Mayflower.
