3 Commodores Comments With the wonderful summer weather we have been experiencing, the first few months have been busy within the Cub. There have been lots of people enjoying a drink, a meal & chat on Friday & Saturday nights. The Property & Grounds committee have had plenty to organise. The new roof is almost completed & it is looking really good. The BBQ area, which is being built in conjunction with the Horowhenua District Council, should be completed this week. This has tidied up the front of the Club. Thanks to Kelvin & his team of merry men. Thanks also to Val for scones & cups of tea. The Fishing Committee are working hard organising the biggest event on the Clubs calendar, the Easter Fishing Tournament. The Club rooms will be transformed with sponsors banners & full of all the fisher people. This is an extremely busy time for the volunteers. These people make the Club the success it is. If you think you can help at all please contact Julie or myself & I m sure we can find a job for you. Radio Operator We are still looking for people to join our team of Radio Operators. If you think you would like to join this very important team &/or would like more information on what is involved please contact Gary or Keep up to date by liking our Facebook page: Manawatu Marine Boating Club NZ coming events & photos are posted here. 4 Fishing Report There have been lots of people out practising their fishing techniques in readiness for our Easter Fishing Tournament. Entries have been rolling in, the last day for early bird entries is Sunday 11th Marc. Remember that only earlybird entrants receive a polo shirt and the chance to win this years prize of a Stihl garden power tool package valued at $2,800. Our sponsors have excelled themselves this year, fishing prizes and spot prizes are looking to be fantastic. The weigh station is open from noon 4pm Friday and Saturday and noon 2pm Sunday. We just ask that you park your cars away from the boat parking areas and walk a little way. 6 Sailing Report Golly what has happening to the year? Our regatta was just two weeks ago and this was well supported by our own sailors and out of town people. The weather was great and the racing excellent. Thank you to our fantastic sponsors who help make this event such a success. Compressed Air Controls McIntosh Farm Machinery & Cranes Kairanga Eggs International Paints Graeme Pedersen and Son Builders Village Wine Trader Hometown Building Supplies Max Wilson Jewellers HES NZ Ltd Ensol We travelled over to Wanganui last weekend to attend their regatta and some of us stayed and enjoyed the festivities on the Saturday night. As a team we did really well. With a fleet of sixteen lasers Russell Crawford managed to get up into third place and Matilda Fyles came second in the Bic Fleet, with Lucy Scrivener and her brother Jack putting in a good show in the Bics also. It was good to see everybody travel to Wanganui and they made us very welcome. There are only three dates left on the sailing programme for the year. 18 March at 10.00am - the day after St Paddy's day - I may offer a prize to the person who shows up with the most Irish hangover 25 March at 3.30pm and lastly 8 April for closing day race and prizegiving. I hope the weather holds and keeps warm like the rest of the year. Ian Pedersen 6
7 Pool Club Report An informal group met in February and a fun competition ran over the month. It was pleasing to see such a large turnout of old and new players, congratulations to Roger Duffy who won the competition. Our new season commenced on 1 st March starting off with the first of our two 12 week competitions. If you are thinking of joining our pool club, now would be the time to do it, come along on Thursday evening at 7.00 Yours in Pool John Bary 7
8 Ambrose Golf Report 19 members of the boat club enjoyed a hot day out at our annual ambrose golf day. With a sausage sizzle at no 7 tee and refreshments supplied around course members took their frustrations out on the little white ball. Some good scores were recorded with the team headed by Donna McBrydie with Charlie Gribble, Paul Wischnowsky and Peter Jamieson winning the day. 2nd was team Val Hirst, Bill Colman, Graeme Ellis and Kevin Giles. With 3rd going to Heather Greig, Ron Ebert, John Bary, and Geoff McBrydie. The novelty prizes going to Jude Moxon, nearest the pin for ladies, Bevan Duffy for the men. The longest putt holed won by Jude Moxon. Bring along your best Irish joke Saturday 17 th March 8

10 Hi Boaties It s good to see the fine weather coming back after the threat of excyclone Gita, luckily there was not much flooding. Training has been going well with our unit doing an exercise with the Surf club. We have taken a number of Sea Scouts out one of our training nights. We have released some birds for Massey Wildlife and last weekend we had the Canteen Kids down, they all had a great time and a BBQ at the end. Thank you to Rodney Caldow and Crew (photo below) Our new can-am side by side has been a great asset as we have used it on several occasions already. Our Annual Lottery Tickets have been drawn we sold 470 within our unit that is a great $3290 that comes back to our unit so THANK YOU to all for your support. Easter time is coming fast so make sure your boats are checked and ready to go for the MMBC s fishing competition. Finally, our unit is looking for a new Safety Officer, so if there is anyone out there that would be interested please call Eddie on (06) or Safe Boating and always wear your life jackets Eddie Bambery and Crew 10
