We offer a range of membership options, to suit all needs from full senior & family through to active crewing and social options. Membership Classification at a Glance FAMILY membership shall have the benefits of senior membership for both the primary member and the partner with unlimited dependants (under (18) years of age) who join free of charge. SENIOR membership shall have unrestricted use of the club and all its facilities, plus credit facility, boating & voting rights and racing participation. ASSOCIATE membership shall be for persons over eighteen (18) years of age looking to enjoy the social aspects of the club. Full use of clubhouse facilities with credit facility. INTERMEDIATE membership shall be for persons between eighteen (18) and twenty three (23) years of age. Full use of clubhouse facilities, racing participation and voting rights. CREW membership shall be for persons active in crewing on a racing or cruising vessel. Full use of clubhouse facilities, racing participation and debit facility. COUNTRY membership shall be a permanent resident of more than one hundred (160) kilometres from the Adelaide GPO. Full use of clubhouse facilities and voting rights. JUNIOR membership shall be for persons under eighteen (18) years of age and sail training is available for persons from eight (8) years up to seventeen (17) years of age. 3 Becoming a member Royal South Australia Yacht Squadron offers excellent facilities, an active sailing calendar and, most importantly of all, a friendly atmosphere where lifelong members and first-time visitors are made to feel equally welcome. The Squadron has a strong and growing membership base 1,200 members cannot be wrong! The membership at RSAYS come from all walks of life, with a large proportion being professionals in business, law, arts, finance, education, healthcare, engineering and other sectors. This diverse nature can also be seen in the age range at the Squadron, which has a dynamic and family-orientated membership with a large number of long-term and multigenerational family members. Whether a keen junior only just starting out in sailing or an experienced octogenarian, both are equally welcome, as are any and all ages in between! 6 RECIPROCAL RIGHTS Reciprocal rights apply with many yacht clubs interstate and overseas, especially those with a royal designation and also with certain local clubs. Members should contact the reciprocal clubs prior to any visit to confirm the requirements for access to their premises. While the presentation of a current RSAYS membership card is the usual method of validating entry to reciprocal clubs, in some instances a letter of introduction will be sought. These letters of introduction are available upon request from the RSAYS Member Services Coordinator. 7 WHY BECOME A MEMBER? Membership is the lifeblood of RSAYS. The Clubs fundamental purpose is to provide activities, facilities, social programs and training in accordance with our constitution, strategic plan and the needs of members. To deliver these activities, it is essential that all regular users of the Club subscribe to some form of membership. HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER? Simply fill in the membership application form below and send it with the applicable fees to the Club. If you cannot find a proposer or seconder please contact the Club so that we may assist. On receipt of your completed form your application will be presented to Management Committee for approval. Shortly thereafter you will be notified of your acceptance to membership. If you would like to discuss your membership options or have any queries with regard to your application, please contact our Membership Services Coordinator, Alexandra Freeman or the GM, Robbie Standaloft. AS A MEMBER WHEN CAN I USE THE CLUBHOUSE? Members have full access to the clubhouse facilities 7 days per week. The opening hours do change from time to time and are published on the website. IF I AM A SOCIAL MEMBER CAN I TRY SAILING? Definitely Yes. All membership categories allow participation in our racing program and we encourage every member to get involved and enjoy the sport. Wednesday Twilight Races is a great social way to start your journey into the sport of sailing in a fun, social and supportive environment. If you would like to discuss crewing or have any queries with regard to sailing, please contact our Sailing Coordinator. WHAT INSURANCE COVER DO I RECEIVE AS A CLUB MEMBER? Membership of the Club automatically entitles you to be either a Silver or Youth Member with Australian Sailing. These memberships come with Personal Accident Insurance which covers personal accidents while boating or on yacht club premises (refer to Australian Sailing website for full policy details). ARE THERE ANY IMPLICATIONS IF I USE RSAYS REGULARLY BUT DON T JOIN? Firstly visitors are very welcome to RSAYS. However, once you become a regular visitor you need to become a financial member or otherwise there are serious consequences: If a visitor sails regularly without membership status, then their skipper is in breach of the AS Racing Rules of Sailing. This may lead to the boat being disqualified from the race. Furthermore, if the visitor is not an Australian Sailing member (a benefit of Club membership) then they do not have Australian Sailing Personal Accident Insurance. (There is an exemption to this rule for Wednesday Twilight Races) HOW CAN I FIND OUT WHAT EVENTS ARE HAPPENING? The Club communicates with its members through various media: Weekly ebulletin you can opt in on our homepage or simply ask to subscribe Squadron Quarterly Magazine Available in hard copy and on line Notice boards, gate boards and upcoming events posters around the club alerts please ensure you have requested correspondence by Website and Facebook HOW CAN I BECOME MORE INVOLVED? There are many ways for a member to become more involved with the Club ranging from race management to organising social events.
