1 Rev 1 RS AEROCUP 2018 CNBPP (France) September 28 th October 1 st SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 1 RULES 1.1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing and the rules according to the Notice of Race. The RS Aero Class Rules 2018 (V.1.1) will apply The RRS will be changed as follows: Rule 31 is changed so that marks other than the starting and finishing marks may be touched (but not manhandled) without a penalty Rule 35 is changed so that boats finishing outside the time limit will be scored with their observed position on the course Rule 40 is changed so that personal flotation devices must be worn at all times when afloat except briefly while adjusting clothing or personal equipment. Flag Y will not be displayed If there is a conflict between the Notice of Race, Class Rules and the Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions will take precedence. 1.4 Competitors shall complete and sign the entry form available at the Race Office during the registration. 1.5 Any competitors who are aged under 18, shall complete a Parental Disclosure Form, according to point 3.3 of the Notice of Race. 2 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS 2.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the Official Notice Board located on the windows of CNBPP. 3 CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Any changes to the Sailing Instructions will be posted at least 2 hours before the scheduled warning signal of the 1 st race of that day; except that any change to the schedule of races shall be posted by hours on the day before it will take effect. 4 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 4.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed at the Official Mast located in front of CNBPP. 4.2 When flag AP is displayed ashore 1 minute, in Race Signals is replaced with not less than 45 minutes. (This changes RRS Race Signals.) 4.3 When a RED flag is displayed ashore (with 2 sound signals), all boats shall remain in the dinghy park. No boat can go afloat while this flag is hoisted. The next warning signal will not be displayed before 45 minutes after the RED flag has been lowered. 5 FORMAT OF RACING 5.1 It is intended that the three fleets RS Aero 9, RS Aero 7 and RS Aero 5 will start separately and be scored separately. The race committee may change that SI if the number of entries is not sufficient in one group. 5.3 No more than 4 races will be sailed per day. 6. SCHEDULE OF RACES 6.1 Friday September 28th, first warning signal at Saturday September 29th, first warning at 11: Sunday September 30 th, first warning at Monday October 1st,, first warning at No warning signal will be made after 13:00 on the last day. 7 CLASS FLAGS 7.1 The class flags will be; All RS Aeros - RS Aero written on a white background RS Aero 5 - Black numeral 5 on a Light Blue background RS Aero 7 - Black numeral 7 on a Yellow background RS Aero 9 - Black numeral 9 on a Pink background.

2 8 RACING AREAS 8.1 The racing area will be in the bay of Le Pouliguen (see appendix B: Racing Area) 9 THE COURSES 9.1 The diagrams in Appendix A show the course, the order in which marks are to be passed and the side on which each mark is to be left. 9.2 The course (A or B) and number of laps (2, 3 or 4) to be sailed will be indicated on the Committee Boat, no later than the warning signal. 10 MARKS 10.1 Marks 1, 2, 3 & 4 marks will be orange. Mark S mark will be yellow. 11 THE START 11.1 Races will be started as per RRS The starting line will be between a staff displaying an ORANGE flag on the Race Committee Boat at the starboard end and mark S at the port end A boat whose warning signal has not been made shall avoid the starting area from the preparatory signal of any other group or class until all racing boats have cleared the line. The starting area is defined as anywhere above a line parallel to the starting line and its extensions, 80 meters to leeward of the starting line. 12 SHORTENING COURSES 12.1 A race may be shortened in accordance with RRS THE FINISH & GATE 13.1 The finishing line and gate will be between a staff displaying a ORANGE flag on the Committee boat and mark S. Mark S may be moved to shorten the finish line / gate after the start. 14 PENALTY SYSTEM 14.1 Boats may touch a mark other than the starting or finishing mark. A boat shall not manhandle a mark when it results in an advantage. This changes RRS TIME LIMITS AND TARGET TIME 15.1 The time limit shall be 60 minutes for the first boat to finish The window to finish will be 10 minutes after the first boat of each fleet finishes. Boats failing to finish within the window to finish shall be scored in their observed positions on the course. This changes RRS 35, A4 and A5. Boats finished in this way will be advised of the fact by a safety boat and should stop racing thereafter The target will be 40 minutes per race for the first boat to finish, but is at the Race Officer discretion. (NP) 16 PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS 16.1 Protest forms are available at the Race Office. They shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit The protest time limit is one hour (60 ) after the last boat has finished the last race of the day. The official time limit will be published at the ONB Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties to, or named as witnesses. It shall be the responsibility of competitors to check the notice board for such notices, obtain their copy of the protest form and make sure that they and their witnesses attend the hearing On the last day of racing, a request for redress must be delivered: a) within the protest time limit if the requesting party has been informed of the decision on the previous day. b) no later than 20 minutes after the party was informed of the decision on that day. (This changes RRS 62.2.) 16.5 On the last day of racing a competitor s request for reopening a hearing shall be delivered: a) Within the protest time limit if the requesting party was informed of the Protest Committee s decision on the previous day; b) No later than 20 minutes after the party requesting reopening was informed of the Protest Committee s decision on that day.

3 (This changes RRS 66.) 16.6 The penalty for infringements of the rules other than Part 2, and RRS 28 and 31 may be less than DSQ, if the Protest Committee so decides Breaches of instructions signalled by (NP) will not be grounds for a protest by a boat. This changes rule 60.1(a) The hearings will be held in the Jury room located on the first floor of CNBPP. Hearings will start according to the hearing schedule posted on the windows of the Jury room. 17 SCORING 17.1 One race is required to be completed to constitute a series. a) When fewer than four races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores. b) When between four and seven races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. c) When eight or more races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores To request correction of an alleged error in posted race or series results, a boat may complete a scoring enquiry form available at the Race Office. If a request for correction is rejected the time limit for requesting redress for the alleged error will run from the time that the rejection is advised to the competitor Ties will be broken in accordance with RRS Appendix A Points will accrue to the registered helm and not the entered boat. 18 SAFETY REGULATIONS (NP) 18.1 Personal flotation devices shall be worn at all times whilst afloat except for temporary adjustments being made to clothing. This changes RRS 40 and the preamble to Part 4. Y flag will not be displayed 18.2 Boats not leaving the harbor for the race/s of the day shall inform the Race Office All boats shall only return to the assigned boat park area. 19 REPLACEMENT OF CREW 19.1 For the event only the helm named on the entry form will be eligible. If a different helm completes a race in the same boat then they will be considered a separate entry and their results cannot be combined with another helm s results If a helm changes the size of rig during the championship the helm will not have to pay any additional entry fee. However, results when using the different rig will be scored as a separate entry in that fleet. Such permission is only valid if sought in writing and granted prior to the change. 20 SAIL NUMBERS (NP) 20.1 The Race Committee will permit a boat to use sails carrying a distinguishing number other than that required by RRS 77 and RRS Appendix G. Any subsequent change will only be accepted by the previous approval of the Race Committee. 21 EQUIPMENT AND MEASUREMENT CHECKS 21.1 A boat or equipment may be inspected at any time for compliance with the class rules and sailing instructions. 22 ADVERTISING 22.1 Boats may be required to display advertising supplied by the organizing authority Competitors shall make every reasonable effort to display event sponsors promotional items on their boat and sails as directed. If sponsor promotional items come off whilst racing, competitors must obtain replacement items from the Race Office before the start of racing the following day. 23 TRASH DISPOSAL 23.1 Boats shall not put trash in the water or in boat park area. When afloat trash may be placed aboard support boats or and any of the Race Committee boats. 24 COMMUNICATIONS 24.1 A boat shall not make radio transmissions while racing. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 25 SUPPORT BOATS

4 25.1 Team leaders, coaches and other support personnel shall stay outside areas where boats are racing (guideline is a minimum of 50m) from the time of the preparatory signal until all boats have finished or the race committee signals a postponement, general recall or abandonment All coaches or supports boats shall be stand by on the Race Management radio channel (08 VHF). 26 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY 26.1 The race organisers shall not be responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner/competitor, his skipper or crew as a result of their taking part in the race or races. Moreover, every owner/competitor warrants the suitability of his boat for the race or races The safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the owner/competitor racing the boat, who shall ensure that the boat is fully found, thoroughly seaworthy and manned by a crew sufficient in experience and who are physically fit to face bad weather. The owner/competitor shall be satisfied as to the soundness of the hull, spars, rigging, sails and all gear. He shall ensure that all safety equipment is properly maintained, stowed and in date and that all crew know where it is kept and how it is to be used Neither the establishment of these Sailing Instructions nor any inspection of the boat under these conditions in any way limits or reduces the absolute responsibility of the owner/competitor for his crew, the boat and the management thereof. The crews are nonetheless advised to satisfy themselves as to the experience of the skipper and the adequacy of all safety equipment and insurance arrangements. 27 INSURANCE 27.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of 1,500,000 or the equivalent. 28 RIGHTS TO USE NAME AND LIKENESS 28.1 By participating in this event, competitors automatically grant to the organizing authority and the event sponsors the right, in perpetuity, to make, use, and show, at their discretion, any photography, audio and video recordings, and other reproductions of them made at the venue or on the water from the time of their arrival at the venue, until their final departure, without compensation. 29 PRIZES 29.1 Prizes will be awarded depending on the number of entries In addition a first Lady helm, first Masters helm (55 or over on 31 st December 2018) and first Apprentice Youth helm (under 22 on 31 st December 2018) will be awarded to the one highest placed sailor in any fleet. A tie will be broken in favour of the sailor in the largest fleet.

5 APPENDIX A - Course A1 COURSE A.1.1 The Committee Boat and mark S form a Start Line, Finish Line and a Gate that must be passed through at the end of every lap, leaving the Committee Boat to starboard and mark S to port. The course (A or B) and number of laps (2, 3 or 4) to be sailed shall be displayed on the Committee Boat A.1.2 Course A: LAP: START, 1P, 2P, 3S, 4P, GATE/FINISH Course B; LAP: START, 1P, 2P, 3P, 4P, GATE/FINISH
