3 AIR OPERATED DIAPHRAGM PUMPS Operating principle An air driven diaphrag pup will start working with copressed air at 1- ( for plastic pups). The copressed air will flow through a valve echanis to the left or right air chaber. At the end of the stroke the air valve will switch over and the whole process is reversed. If the liquid outlet of the pup is closed the pup will stop as the air and liquid pressures will be balanced. The diaphrag will have balanced air and liquid pressures on each side which gives a long diaphrag life. 5 The two air chabers are separated fro the liquid chabers by two flexible diaphrags connected to each other by a centre rod. If the air valve is in a position to allow copressed air to flow into the right air chaber, the left air chaber will exhaust through a uffler. The air flow causes the centre rod to ove to the right so the liquid chaber becoes saller and the liquid is pushed through the valve in the top anifold. The liquid pressure also closes the valve to the right chaber. At the sae tie the left liquid chaber will get bigger and creates a vacuu so that the botto valve opens and liquid is pulled into the left chaber. 4 AIR OPERATED DIAPHRAGM PUMPS Your advantages Extended perforance diaphrag The pressure differences on the ebrane surface and thus the applicable inner strain are very low in coparison to echanically driven ebrane pups. The developent of a new long-ter ebrane fro a PTFE copound (PTFE foil with EPDM carrier aterial) allowed 3 properties to be cobined at the sae tie: - Extreely long ebrane service life - Diffusion density consistency - Better conductivity (to prevent static charging) Dry start and self priing Copletely self priing fro a dry start, with suction lifts not exceeding 5 eter on fresh water. The dry running capability enables safe installations to be ade where the liquid supply is likely to be ade interittent. If source runs dry, the pup continuous to operate without daage by overheating or friction wear until further liquid is available. Siple and safe flow control Infinitely variable flow control can be siply by opening or closing a valve on the discharge, or by increasing or decreasing the air supply. Air driven intrinsically safe (ATEX) The power source of copressed air is ost suitable for operation in potentially explosive environents. The pneuatic drive absolutely spark-free and in order to prevent possible static charging, conductive etal housings or PVDF ones enriched with graphite are available. Unrestricted use of fluids Practically any fluid can be puped, fro clear water to low-boiling-point edia to highly viscous fluids and cheically aggressive edia. The valves can handle polluted fluids and solids without ipairing vacuu capacity. 21 AIR OPERATED DIAPHRAGM PUMPS Selecting the pup The following table provides you with general inforation on selecting the right pup. To achieve axiu perforance, we recoend selecting a pup which will only be using up to 75% of its axiu puping capacity. In addition to the puping capacity, the aterials of the coponents which will coe in contact with the fluid and which have to be resistant to the liquid to be puped ust be deterined. Please consult the table of resistances for this. The perforance curves and the test data were deterined with water at abient teperature. In case of subersion, ake sure that the air otor aterial is resistant to the liquid and that the air outlet is equipped with a snorkel. The standard odel of the air otor is ade of aluiniu or polypropylene, but the otor is also available as an option in coated aluiniu and other aterials.
