1 ELECTRICAL Power Cords 1. Check all power cords (extension leads) before use to ensure that the tag is current. Please Note: For all workshop areas and hostel, this is every year. For all office areas and classrooms, this is every 5 years. 2. Make sure fittings at end are in good condition (no loose wires are showing outer casing has no inner wires showing). 3. If wear is showing, do not use in any circumstances and report to supervisor. 4. If using electricity outside or in outside conditions ( e.g. when wet) transformer must be used or any other approved cut-out safety switches (see electrical regulations). 5. Please ensure 1 plug per 1 power tool.. Power Tools 1. As with all electrical tools check all power cords as per electrical procedures. 2. Make sure Off/On switch is in operating order (no exposed wires showing either). If not in operating order do not use in any circumstances and report to supervisor. 3. If operating power tools in outside conditions a transformer must be used or any other approved cut-out safety switches (see electrical regulations). 4. When operating power tools always be aware of where blade or drill is, so as not to cut through cord. Do not attempt to fix any electrical appliance. Report any broken appliance to your supervisor.

2 TRACTORS 1. If you have never driven a tractor you must make it known to the authorised supervisor. 2. You must have passed an approved Telford Tractor-Driving course before operating the tractor or been given permission from an approved Telford trainer. 3. Make sure you are familiar with all controls before starting by knowing what they do and how to operate them (controls). If unsure stop and ask supervisor to seek the Operator s Manual. 4. Maintenance make sure the tractor is in adequate working order as specified by the Telford maintenance procedures. These procedures must have been demonstrated by the approved supervisor. 5. Always be aware of the conditions (ground weather) that you are going to operate the tractor in and if unsure stop and ask your supervisor. You must always know your limitations. 6. No passengers are allowed on the tractor except the supervisor when training. 7. When putting implements on, always follow Operators or Tractor Manuals, e.g. for weight, height, width and capabilities. UTES 1. If you have never driven a Ute you must make it known to the authorised supervisor. 2. A standard driver s licence is required before driving. You must also have passed an approved Telford Driving course before using off-road or been given permission. 3. Make sure you are familiar with all controls before starting by knowing what they do and how to operate them (controls). If unsure stop and ask supervisor to seek the Operator s Manual. 4. Maintenance make sure the Ute is in adequate working order as specified by the Telford maintenance procedures. These procedures must have been demonstrated by the approved supervisor. You must have a current WOF and be registered. 5. Always be aware of the conditions (ground weather) that you are going to operate the Ute in and if unsure stop and ask your supervisor. You must always know your limitations. 6. All articles must be tied down safely to ensure they do not fall off.

3 ATV S 1. If you have never driven an ATV you must make it known to the authorised supervisor. 2. You must have passed an approved ATV training course to be able to drive an ATV or been given permission from an approved Telford trainer. 3. Make sure you are familiar with all controls before starting by knowing what they do and how to operate them (controls). If unsure stop and ask supervisor to seek the Operator s Manual. 4. Maintenance make sure the ATV is in adequate working order as specified by the Telford maintenance procedures. These procedures must have been demonstrated by the approved supervisor. You must ensure the ATV is to a WOF standard. 5. Always be aware of the conditions (ground weather) that you are going to operate the ATV in and if unsure stop and ask your supervisor. You must always know your limitations. 6. Helmets must be worn at all times when operating ATV. and riding in trailers. 7. No passengers are allowed on ATV s except the supervisor when training.

4 WORKSHOP CARPENTRY/FENCING POST DRIVER 1. Not to be used in any circumstances unless accompanied by authorised supervisor (who is familiar with the machine). 2. Make sure Post Driver is attached properly to tractor all lynch pins and top links are compatible to the machine and are the approved type. 3. All guards are attached. 4. Hydraulic switch over valve is in the correct operation position. 5. Keep hands and feet clear while Driver is being lowered into position. 6. Never stand directly behind driver as tractor is being driven backwards. 7. Know what control does what as per sign and always operate slowly, especially when starting new post. 8. Never put monkey (or weight) at the top of boom when transporting. 9. Always be aware of height e.g. Driving under power wires. 10. Always wear steel capped boots and ear muffs. 11. Keep hands always clear while operating the (monkey or weight). 12. One person only is to operate controls and position the post.

5 WORKSHOP MACHINERY BUZZ BANDSAW SANDER GRINDERS DRAW SAW DRILL PRESS COMBINATION SAW 1. Before operating any of the above in this workshop ask supervisor for safety session and demonstration. 2. NO ONE IS TO OPERATE ANY OF THE ABOVE WITHOUT HAVING THE PERMISSION OF THE SUPERVISOR. 3. Every machine has a safety sign alongside it, explaining what safety equipment you will be required to wear while operating it, e.g. earmuffs/safety goggles, dust masks. Know your OFF/ON switch, push sticks also to be used. 4. Look at safety signs on the walls of workshop and be familiar with these.

6 WORKSHOP ROOM NOISE 1. Earmuffs to be used at all times while operating machinery in this workshop. VENTILATION/DUST 1. An approved vent system is required for this unit, as dust masks are not suitable for all operations. 2. Where at all possible wear an approved face mask. ROOMS Capacity 1. No more than two people are to operate the above machines at a time, unless authorised by supervisor. Behaviour 1. Appropriate behaviour as outlined on the workshop wall is to be adhered to at all times in this workshop. EXITS 1. All EXITS are clearly visible with fire drills displayed. Know your Exits. 2. All EXITS to be clear of rubbish and objects which will obstruct progress through the exit. 3. Please make sure you have read and are familiar with all notices. FIRST AID KIT 1. The nearest First Aid Kit is located at the Workshop 2. The nearest trained person/s in charge is the Workshop Supervisor
