Engtek SubSea Systems A Division of Engtek Manoeuvra Systems Pte Ltd SubSea Naval Technology Shallow Water Combat Submersible (SWCS/SDV)

Engtek SubSea Ocean Systems Page 2 of 12 General 1.0 Scope The Shallow Water Combat Submersible (SWCS) or SDV (Swimmer Delivery Vehicle) enables the crew to approach their objective tactically without being detected. It is a swimmer delivery vehicle which can carry assault swimmers. The SWCS can be used for offshore intervention or coastal intrusion. It is able to maneuver on and below water surface to carry 4 or 6 combat assault swimmers with their gear. The typical Swimmer Delivery Vehicle (SDV) is a large electrically-propelled torpedo-like craft which can operate from a dry deck shelter fitted to a full-size submarine. The cylindrical deck shelter is hooked up to the sub s escape hatch, functioning as an underwater docking bay for the mini-sub. The vehicle can also be launched from shore or a small support vessel. Four SEAL passengers and two crew can ride in the SDV, wearing breathing apparatus. One of the roles of combat swimmers is to conduct amphibious reconnaissance or raids. In order to achieve tactical surprise, it is essential that the approach to targets must not be compromised. One of the methods used is by means of the sub-surface craft which has advantages as follows. To transport assault swimmers to a target from launching mother ship. To carry necessary combat equipment, like demolition charges, electronics, counter measures or weapons for each specific operation. To approach the target through underwater to avoid observation by the objective through radar, visual observation or patrol. Shallow water approach makes it extremely difficult for the objective to detect the craft by all means. Mission capabilities include and are not limited to: Reconnaissance, intelligence, surveillance, inspections, infiltration / ex-filtration, raid / assault, neutralization, counter measures, enemy access denial, intervention in hostage situations and recovery of assets in the water, anti smuggling, piracy, coastal and waterways police patrols and interventions. 2.0 Usage and Tactical Environment The SDV is fully autonomous and is launched from its mother ship. It can be transported on a heavy load trailer. The SDV approaches the Coast just below the surface, then submerges deeper to close in to avoid enemy radar detection and once on the objective, the SDV is berthed in a safe position on the sea floor or at a pre-planned rendezvous, to release swimmers to complete the mission. On completion of the mission the swimmers return to the SDV and proceed for exfiltration. The availability of a combined SDV / Mother ship effectively enhances the capability of the commando team to conduct the following tasks: Surveillance of sea flanks/water-ways. Neutralization. Rescue Missions. Covert reconnaissance on coastal area/objective

Engtek-M SubSea Ocean Systems Page 3 of 12 Police Interventions Assaults Infiltrations OPERATIONAL 1.0 Mobility The maximum speed of the SWCS is 12 knots. Cruising speed is 7-8 knots The craft is able of operating at depths Max 300 meters with greater than 95 per cent reliable over 15 twelve-hour missions. The vessel is designed with Shallow Draught for easy launching recovery/operation. Low profile and stealth shape feature allowing unobtrusive approach to target when running submerged. Easy embarkation and disembarkation. All equipment pressure resistant up to maximum operational depth. 2.0 Portability The craft can be transported by Road Trailer. It can be easily deployed for embarkation/ disembarkation from a mother ship. 3.0 Operation It can be easily operated by 1 pilot. It can carry up to 6 men plus combat load. Fully automatic navigation modes, auto pilot, touch screen charts to upload route, trajectory, speed and depth. The Integrated Bridge System is essentially a new comms/sensors/it chassis. The SWCS will house an IBS with an open architecture, a power and signal distribution system capable of integrating various electronic systems and sensors, and the capability to display operational data to the vehicle pilot and navigator.

Engtek-M SubSea Ocean Systems Page 4 of The SWCS Auto Pilot System (APS) System Surveillance The autopilot system (APS) is ideally suited for surveillance requirements. Typically the autopilot guides the vehicle to the survey area, and then follows a predefined route while payload instruments are brought to bear on the field of interest weather it be side scan sonar, radar, visual/infrared imagery, chemical or radiation sensors, or other supplied sensors. The autopilot modes take care of navigation and control while its command and control link is configured to control the payload instruments. The instruments may be automatically switched on at specific waypoints, or they may be controlled by the pilot using the command link. An additional data logging processor may be used for automatic data logging of navigational data as well as payload sensor data, for detailed post-mission analysis. Remote Controlled Mine Hunting Mine hunting involves operating payload sensor systems over a pre-programmed mission track. The autopilot is capable of driving the vehicle over the track, at low speeds, and hovering within a defined area when the sensors detect an object of interest. The system provides command and control channels for remote control and monitoring the payload. A comprehensive remote control interface allows the operator to intervene and investigate suspicious contacts; or to download new mission data remotely. A special control mode allows the vehicle to stay on a fixed station relative to a hoist ship. This may be used for instance, to scan the area ahead of a warship or submarine underway. The standard control workstation includes a PC running the Control Work Station software. This package provides total control and monitoring facilities: Route planning and upload/download Mission recording and reply Electronic chart input/output for vehicle activity, waypoints and routes Vehicle systems status and control payload systems status and control The workstation software may run on a laptop PC. Heading Following In heading following mode the pilot selects the desired heading and the autopilot controls the appropriate thrusters, rudders, etc. in order to achieve the desired heading on the SWCS compass. Under speed control the autopilot controls the appropriate thrusters, etc. in order to maintain the set speed as measured by the speed log

Engtek-M SubSea Ocean Systems page 5 of 12 Track Following In track following mode the pilot enters a set of waypoints, specifying a desired depth / height for each one. The autopilot will then control the track of the vehicle to make it move to each waypoint at the correct speed. Waypoints may be set up on an electronic chart system or ECDIS, and downloaded; alternatively they may be entered directly by providing coordinates. The track controller effectively provides a high level mission control, including the following features: Choice of track acquisition conditions - for example, starting at the nearest waypoint or at the start of the track; Choice of operational modes on completion of the track; Linkage between waypoints and events - for example, so that the speed or depth/altitude changes at a specific waypoint. Vehicle Following Vehicle following allows one vehicle to follow another, taking up a station specified by the pilot. For example: A mine detection system programmed to run some distance ahead of the vehicle to seek out potential threats; A surface unit which being used as a communications relay for a submerged vehicle below it. A communications link, between units on board the two vehicles, passes information about the current position, heading and velocity of the vessel to be followed. The vehicle autopilot then follows this vessel at a user-specified distance and bearing, all the time ensuring that a predefined safety zone around the vehicle is not encroached. Hovering on a Point In order to hover on a Point the autopilot controls the position of the vehicle relative to a pilotdefined waypoint. Two modes are possible: Position Control by Maneuver (PCM) in which the vehicle heading is chosen by the autopilot to minimize thruster activity and fuel usage. This mode is efficient if there are significant environmental forces (tidal stream and / or turbulence or waves); Dynamic Positioning (DP) in which the operator specifies a heading to be maintained subject to environmental constraints. This might be used for example if a sensor is to be directed on a stationary target.

Engtek-M SubSea Ocean Systems Page 6 of 12 Hovering within an Area Hovering in an Area - the vehicle is controlled to maintain its position within a nominated region. Again, this is subdivided into Area PCM and Area DP (see PCM and DP, above). Area hovering is a very versatile mode and is the most fuel-efficient method of hovering, because it allows the vehicle to drift a controlled amount without making continual corrections and counter corrections. During Area Hover, several area conditions may be specified simultaneously. For example, the vehicle may be commanded to stay: Within a set distance of a datum (waypoint); Within a defined boundary; Avoiding one or more defined danger zones. These conditions may be superimposed simultaneously. At the same time, the operator (in Remote Control mode) may use a joystick to superimpose a controlled drift - for example, hover within a set zone alongside a pipeline, and slowly drift along it, while maintaining a desired heading so as to bring sensors to bear on the pipeline. This minimizes the difficulty for the operator, as well as control communications bandwidth, because the autopilot takes care of the second-by-second control of the thrusters, and the operator only has to issue a simple "drift" command. Attitude and depth / height control The autopilot system incorporates controllers for attitude (roll and pitch) and depth / height control. Roll control is built in to the attitude controllers, however, because some vehicles cannot achieve independent control of depth / height and pitch, two integrated controllers are provided: Controller Type 1 uses independent depth / height and pitch control algorithms. This is particularly appropriate when the actuators for pitch and depth / height are separate units giving a capability for pitch to be adjusted independently of depth / height - for example, four vertical thrusters may be used together to thrust upwards, and differentially to adjust vehicle attitude; Controller Type 2 uses pitch, in conjunction with vehicle forward motion, to adjust depth / height. This is appropriate, for example, for a vehicle equipped with forward hydroplanes.

Engtek-M SubSea Ocean Systems Page 7 of Inertial Navigation System The PHIMS 6000 with DVL is a SubSea Inertial Navigation System, providing the SDV with position, true heading, attitude, speed and heave. Its high-accuracy inertial measurement unit is based on FOG technology coupled with an embedded digital signal processor that runs an advanced Kalman filter. 4.0 Maintainability The craft and components are serviceable and repairable by service technician using standard marine material and facilities where possible. 5.0 Reliability The craft is reliable and robust for military use, availability 100%.
