4 1.0 Purpose The purpose of this procedure is to provide the necessary information for changing out the telescope mount at the ROR 16 Mirror. 2.0 Applicable To ROR 16 Mirror 3.0 Scope Provide the steps to remove and reinstall the current telescope mount at the ROR 16 with a new rebuilt mount. 4.0 Definitions NA 5.0 Training Any new personnel working on this procedure should be working with at least one other person that has performed this work prior 6.0 Safety 6.1 JHA Form 6.2 Daily Briefing Form 7.0 Personnel, Equipment and Material Required 1. At a minimum, there should be three people working together following these procedures. A fourth person should be utilized when removing telescope unit from mount. 2. 5 8.0 Procedure The procedure for removing and installing the ROR 16 telescope mount are as follows: 1. Pivot the telescope down, with the weights at the bottom. Figure 1 Figure 1. Weights at the bottom. 2. At this time, remove all the electronic and power cables from the telescope tube. Remove the TCC (Telescope Command Center). Inspect to make sure that all cables have been removed from the tube and the telescope. Figures 2 and 3 Figure 2. Cables Figure 3. TCC 5000-AD Docx Page 5 of 8

6 3. Remove the small refractor telescope from the tube on the telescope. Two people should be performing this task. Loosen the screws to the framework holding the smaller telescope to the mirror cell. Figure 4 Figure 4. Frame 4. Pivot telescope so it is pointing west. Fig.5 Figure 5. Telescope pointing west. Access to (8) bolts on bottom of mount. 5. Prior to loosening the four lock knobs, remove the eight (8) bolts from the bottom of the mount. The telescope should be pointing to the West in order to access these bolts on the bottom AD Docx Page 6 of 8

7 6. Loosen the four (4) lock knobs. Figure 6. Figure 6. Lock knobs 7. The entire telescope unit slides down off of this plate when knobs are loosened. This task needs four (4) people to grab handles, both sides and end of telescope. Set the telescope sideways on the floor. Figure 7. Figure 7. Four people needed to remove telescope safely. 8. The weights then need to be removed. There are bolts in the bottom of it that must be removed first. Then the mount can be removed. The mount weighs approximately 75 pounds. 8 Figure 8. Mount and weights shown. 9. Remove the weights that are attached to the mount. 10. Remove the shaft that the weights were on. 11. Loosen the two azimuth adjusting screws. 12. Loosen the four mount screws. (These screws are locked in place and must be loosened with an allen wrench first.) 13. Utilizing two people, lift the mount off the tube and set aside, out of the way. 14. Install the new mount by reversing these procedures. 9.0 Procedure Review This procedure should be reviewed by employees under the following terms: 1. Initially before performing the task. 2. When there is a change in the procedures. 3. When there is a new person working on task. 4.
