4 4 Cross-country ski runs in Untertal valley Make your way away from the busy skiing mountains on the cross-country ski runs in Untertal valley! On the Kristallloipe and the Sportloipe ski runs you ski over meadows and through fairy-tale like forests to typical Styrian inns, inviting you into cosy atmosphere and offering regional dishes. TIP! YOU decide about the price For the XC ski runs in Untertal valley there is no fixed price! You decide for yourself, how much the ski runs are worth to you. Near Waldhäuslalm inn there is a box, where you can give your voluntary contribution. As the grooming of the runs is heavily dependent on the (natural) snow quality, the conditions vary. 5 5 Cross-country ski runs at Vorberg On Halserloipe and Steirerloipe ski runs sportsmen and connoisseurs get their money s worth. The ski runs in Pichl-Vorberg are directly connected to the extensive network of XC ski runs in Ramsau am Dachstein with a total of 200 km. 6 6 Winter Walking In Schladming, Rohrmoos and its valleys, in Pichl and at Vorberg there are many winter walks for your enjoyment see some tips below: Talbachklamm Gorge The route between Schladming and Untertal village is a classic winter walking trail. The tour takes about 1.5 hours round-trip. There is also the possibility to take the bus to or from Untertal village. This also lends itself as an evening hike, since the path through the gorge is illuminated until midnight. 4-seasons trail at Hochwurzen This walk starts at the parking lot at Hotel Winterer. From there you make your way up to Hochwurzen via Hüttecksattel mountain saddle on a groomed forest road. For the 700 meters in elevation and 6.5 kms in distance you need approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. For the way back down we recommend that you take a toboggan with you and enjoy the ride down on the 7 km long run from Hochwurzen (toboggan rentals at the valley terminals of Gipfelbahn Hochwurzen cable-car and the chairlift»hochwurzen II«). 7 7 Reiteralm Winter Walk Trail head for this tour is the mountain terminal of the Silver Jet cable car at Reiteralm. A few meters along the ski slope (make a left when you exit the mountain terminal) and you re already on the Reiteralm Winter Walk. The trail leads through a forest section and takes you to Almdorf Reiteralm and from there to the valley via Preuneggstraße road. There is also a new winter walk starting at the mountain terminal of Preunegg Jet cable car. Winter Walk Pichl-Vorberg Starting point for this easy winter walk is at the hiking trail head Vorberg-Arnika near Pension Arnika. Walking on the wide, groomed walking trail you enjoy a great view to the Schladminger Tauern mountains. The typical Styrian inns and chalets Halseralm, Sonnenalm, Rösteralm and Wiesmahdalm offer regional culinary delights. Enns River Walk Schladming You start at the valley terminal of Planai cable-car and follow the yellow signs Ennsrunde to the congress center of Schladming, where you connect to the Enns Tour along river, which you follow to Lehenbrücke bridge and back. The tour is 6 kms long and takes you about 1.5 hours. Schladming-Dachstein Winter Walking Ticket TIP! With the Schladming-Dachstein Winter Walking Ticket you can use 20 cable cars and chair lifts to get to the trail heads of some of the most beautiful winter hikes. Moreover, you can use the local buses between Schladming and Rohrmoos (except the night bus) as well as the ski buses in the holiday region Schladming-Dachstein. 8 8 Snowshoeing around Schladming Greek historian and philosopher Strabo (63-24 BC) already reports of people who navigated the winter snows with snowshoes on their feet. In recent years, snowshoeing has become a popular winter sport also as an alternative to backcountry skiing. Here are a few tips for snowshoeing near Schladming. TIP! NEW: signposted snowshoeing tour to Obertal valley NEW in winter 2017 is the signposted snowshoeing tour to Obertal valley in Rohrmoos. The route is marked with signs for approx. 17 kms trail heads are located in the village of Rohrmoos (next to Hotel Das Platzl ), at the valley terminal of Hochwurzen cable car, and at Windbacherstube inn in Obertal valley. Along the signs you snowshoe into idyllic Obertal valley. Sport Tritscher in Rohrmoos village, Schi Lenz in Rohrmoos village and at the valley terminal of Hochwurzen cable car and Windbacherstube inn also offer snowshoes for rent. 9 9 In Obertal valley the sound of the Obertalbach creek is your constant companion also in winter. The glint of the snow around you adds an additional charm to the scenery. The ruins of the Nickel melting furnace at the valley head are an attraction to in summer it is open as a museum two days a week. Best starting point for a tour is at Windbacherstube inn, where you also can enjoy regional delicacies after your tour into the idyllic and quite Obertal valley. Snowshoe tour in Untertal valley From Waldhäuslalm inn (reachable with Planai buses) walk along the banks of the Untertalbach creek. Soon you will realize why the XC ski runs are called Kristallloipe (crystal ski runs) here. Over meadows and through forest you reach the car park Seeleiten (summer only) after about 1.5 hours. For the way back take the same route. Snowshoe hike to Rossfeld With snowshoes strapped to your feet, make your way from the Hochwurzenhütte chalet briefly along the sled run, then past the Hochwurzenalm chalet and via the Kleine Wurzen towards Hüttecksattel mountain saddle. Gently downhill through high pine forest, before the path begins to wind its way uphill to the Rossfeld. The views of the surrounding mountains are every bit as breathtaking in winter as they are in summer. Return along the same route. The tour takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. 10 10 Alpine Curling Alpine curling (also called ice stock sport) is a popular sport in the Alps. The folksy sport is similar to Olympic Curling and liked by locals and guests of all ages. There are several curling lanes available for you for a game in and around Schladming. Ice Climbing Since last winter you can discover the exciting sport of ice climbing in Schladming. 12 12 Toboggan Runs In Schladming you have the choice between 3 different toboggan runs. Additional glissades are offered with Snowtubing and Airboarding. Toboggan Run Hochwurzen Hochwurzen offers a 7 km long toboggan run, which can be reached via Hochwurzen cable car. The run at Hochwurzen is also open and illuminated in the evenings from Monday to Saturday between 7 and 11 pm. On the mountain Hochwurzenhütte, Hochwurzenalm, Seiterhütte & Celtic Bar, and Tauernalm inns and chalets are open also in the evening. 13 13 Snowtubing & Toboggan Run Pichl-Vorberg The toboggan run is approximately 2 kms long. It starts at Rösteralm inn and ends at Stoanerhof farm. Rösteralm chalet offers sledge rental and at the slope next to the inn there are 3 snowtubing lanes 2 easy ones and a more challenging one with some humps. 14 14 Alpine Fatbike Explore the winter in the holiday region Schladming-Dachstein on bike! Alpine Fatbike offers daily fatbike adventures with the Norco Fatbikes, which are especially designed for snow. The wide balloon tyres facilitate easy cycling and control in every snow condition. TIP! Rohrmoos Hochwurzen Hochwurzen offers the longest natural toboggan run in the Alps: the perfect route for a guided fatbike downhill tour. We meet at the valley terminal of Hochwurzen cable car, which we take to reach the starting point at the summit at 1,850 m above sea-level. Via 26 hairpins and turns we make our way downhll to the valley terminal on the 7 km run up to 5 times (maximum of 3 hours). Requirement for participation are basic skills on mountain bikes and a minimum age of 10 years. We offer several starting times a day from Monday to Friday Evening tours are possible too! 15 15 Ramsau am Dachstein In Ramsau am Dachstein Alpine Fatbike offers several fatbike tours during the winter season. Starting from Ramsau village there are over 220 kms of groomed slopes, sledge trails and winter walking trails we can explore on bike. Our guides have the right tour for each demand from easy trips to a chalet or inn, to demanding freeride trail adventures. There are no special requirements for the easy family tours, minimum age of 14 years. Tours start daily at 10 am, 2 pm and 6 pm (Nightride to Sonnenalm inn).
